Toys R Us

Toys R Us Toy is an object used for play, and as with objects in this material culture, toys can carry undertones of the cultural attitudes and values of society. This is particularly pronounced in the category of mass produced toys, given their designers’ concern over the marketability of said toys, may purposefully appeal to dominant attitudes and values. As such, toys can grow to reflect the attitudes of the majority, helping to legitimate the ideas and values of the group and even more dangerously seed those same ideas into the minds of impressionable children. This inevitable recognition at the heart of the toys, an integral component of childhood, that forever an adult through the manufacture of the toys, can too manufacture a culture for the child. To be consistently deciding a culture for the child, we run the risk that the child will inevitably turn out as the previous generation, with the same set of stereotypes born of an implanted culture. As such it is paramount that society as a whole is alerted to the real power of children toy’s manufacturer, and recognizes the importance of toys in today’s and tomorrow’s culture.
