About Us
The Veterans Center is nonprofit organization dedicated to reconstructing the lives of
disadvantaged veterans. Our core values surround how we impact disadvantaged
communities by fostering their needs, providing strategic guidance and ensuring that
each constituent is educated and informed about local programs and services. Through
fundamental collaborations with residents, agencies, government, and businesses, we
have been able to serve over 1500 per year in the State of Georgia in our beginning in
2008.
Our Mission
We are dedicated to reconstructing the lives of veterans and communities through
housing, education, and public engagement.
Current Activities
The Veterans Center has an array of services in three areas:
(1) Training and Workforce Development – As a USDOL Approved Apprenticeship our
services involve job development, career counseling, computer skills, vocational testing
and assessments.
(2) Housing Services: We are a HUD approved Housing Counseling Agencies.
Providing homeownership courses, counseling and down payment assistance for
veterans who want to become first-time homebuyers, and/or victims of foreclosure.
Affordable housing development to low income families
(3) Business Center: This program is designed to help veterans and their families
become business owners or grow their business within their area. These veterans are
future business owners and/or veterans who currently own businesses but need
additional assistance. We provide training, coaching and financial resources
(4) Agri-Tech: This program is designed to assist veterans becomes involved with
agriculture farming and innovative technology with renewable energy.
About the Event and Who We Serve Vets Center Toys and HYPE (Helping Young People Excel) is an annual event hosted in Georgia. This event helps serve over 5000 families with children, foster care children, senior citizens and veterans each Christmas years. Toys and HYPE Overview
Toys and HYPE is an annual Christmas Celebration that’s sole purpose is to help underserved and improvised communities and impact youth. During the event we conduct the following activities: (1) Toy giveaway (2) Parents and Seniors Corner – resources for communities for food, employment, job training, heating and utility assistance, and seniors programs supportive services
and (3) Community Concert This event will be an entertaining and motivational event designed to encourage communities and families. For the year 2019 this event will be hosted in Fort Valley, Georgia serving Middle and South Georgia communities. Middle and South Georgia families have been affected by constant natural disasters, poor economic conditions and persistent poverty that has occurred due to natural disasters and high percentage of underemployed and underserved populations. Below is an economic snap shot Middle and South Georgia demographics and economic snapshot.
Economic Snapshot (GA Dept of Labor and HUD)
• 51% of with families are faced with eviction;
• 11% of families and veterans with families are homelessness,
• 29% of families veterans with families have utilities disconnection and loss of work reducing employment activities and shrinkage in population
• 7% of youth ages 6-15 have lost their immediate family members while serving within the military.
• 95% of youth ages 2-17 are receiving free or reduced lunch in the local school systems (5 counties Peach, Houston, Crawford, Macon, Bibb and Lamar)
• 85% of the populated are low to moderate income families seeking toys for the holiday due to low wages and lack of employment
• Top employers in the area are logistics, warehousing, and nursing/medical companies.
• Over 75% of the population are renters and 21% are homeowners
• 22% are active military members employed at the military base

• Year 2010-2013
o Veterans Center served over 1000 children with toys; 50 families were given
Georgia Power vouchers, and 10 were given food bags with turkeys and hams.
• Year 2014
o Veterans Center served over 3000 children with toys; 250 families were given
Georgia Power vouchers, 200 were given Wal-Mart gift cards and 150 were
given food bags with turkeys and hams. We involved over 50 volunteers and
special guest that would greet each child and allow each child to choose their
own Christmas toy.
• Year 2015
o Veterans Center served over 5900 children with toys; 275 families were given
Georgia Power vouchers, 215 were given Wal-Mart gift cards and 200 were
given food bags with turkeys and hams. We involved over 100 volunteers and
special guest that would greet each child and allow each child to choose their
own Christmas toy. Several fun stations were setup to give away free meals,
drinks and community resources. Each Lead Volunteer was a special guest
celebrity that formed their own volunteer teams to walk with children to help them
select a toy of their choice, take pictures, and hit the dance floor. Stage
performances were also given through the event for crowd engagement. Shuttle
rides and bus rides were also given to families without adequate transportation.
Prevents 150 from being evicted from their homes with hour Save Vets Fund.

Toys and HYPE: Impact and After Effects
The Toys and HYPE event does more than just give out resources and items during the event,
but we make major impacts in the community and to attends after. Please see our stats below:
• 780 Youth (16-18) – Register for College and Learn the college admission process
• 800 Youth (11-15) – Register for After School Tutoring and STEAM Courses for
Renewable Energy, Mobile App Development, Website Creation, and Mathematics
Courses.
• 750 Youth (11-18) Register for online and mobile app financial literacy courses
• 100 Youth receive a tablet or device to do homework and tutoring courses
• 1600 Parents register for Seasonal Unemployment, SNAP and TANF benefits
• 1200 Parent register for apprenticeship programs and job training courses
• 1100 parents register for housing education classes and financial literacy classes
• 680 Seniors received $7500 home improvement grant to fix or design accommodations
for their homes.

Here’s how it works
Highlights and Needs
During the event all volunteers will be presented with a certificate and volunteer appreciation night one
two week after the big day!
All volunteers will be able to grab toys and food boxes after the event has concluded. Please register in
the volunteer section if that’s needed.
All volunteers must have a badge, t-shirt, hoody or fleece to identify themselves.
All volunteer shirts are $15 and hoodies are $25
