    The master key works in every lock.The subkey will not work in the trunk.

    To protect things locked in the trunk whenyou have your vehicle parked, leave thesubkey with the attendant.

    Since the doors and trunk lid can belocked without a key, you should alwayscarry a spare master key in case you acci-dentally lock your keys inside the vehicle.

    Keep the key number plate in place such as your wallet, not

    vehicle.

    If you should lose your keys or if yoadditional keys, duplicates can beby a Toyota dealer using the key n

    LOCKING WITH KEYTurn the key towards the front of thevehicle to lock and towards the back tounlock.

    Vehicles with power door lock sys-temAll side doors and back door lockand unlock simultaneously with eitherfront door. In the drivers door lock, turningthe key once will unlock the drivers door

    and twice in succession will unlock all theside doors and back door simultaneously.

    LOCKING WITH INSIDE LOCK BUT-TON

    Push in the lock button to lock and pullit out to unlock.

    Closing the door with the lock buttonpushed in will also lock the door. Be care-ful not to lock your keys in the vehicle.

    LOCKING WITH POWER DOORSWITCH

    To lock all the side doors sineously, push the switch on theside. Pushing on the UNLOCK

    will unlock them.

    LOCKING WITH REAR DOOR CHILD

    PROTECTOR

    Turn the lock knob to the LOCKposition as shown on the label.

    This feature allows you to lock a rear doorso it can be opened from the outside only,not from inside. We recommend usingthis feature whenever small children are inthe vehicle.

    CAUTION!

    Before driving, be sure tha

    doors are closed and locked, cially when small children are vehicle. Along with the proper u

    seat belts, locking the doors prevent the driver and passe

    from being thrown out from thhicle during an accident. It

    helps prevent the doors from opened unintentionally.

    The windows can be operated with theswitch on each door.

    The ignition key must be in the ON posi-tion.

    OPERATING THE DRIVERS WINDOW

    Use the switch on the drivers door.

    Normal operation:The window movesas long as you hold the switch.

    To open: Lightly push down the switch.

    To close: Pull up the switch.

    Automatic operation (to open only):Push the switch completely down andthen release it. The window will fully open.To stop the window partway, lightly pull theswitch up and then release it.

    OPERATING THE PASSENGERS WIN-DOWS

    Use the switch on each passengers

    door or the switches on the drivers

    door that control each passengerswindow.

    The windows move as long as you holdthe switch.

    For driver and front passengers use

    To open: Push down the switch.

    To close: Pull up the switch.

    For rear passengers use

    To open: Push on the lower side of theswitch.

    To close: Push on the upper side of theswitch.

    If you push in the window lock button onthe drivers door, the passengers win-dows cannot be operated.

    CAUTION!

    To avoid serious personal injury, youmust do the following. Always make sure the head, hands

    and other parts of the body of all oc-cupants are kept completely insidethe vehicle before you close thepower windows. If someonesneck, head or hands gets caught ina closing window, it could result ina serious injury. When anyonecloses the power windows, be surethat they operate the windows safe-

    ly. When small children are in the ve-

    hicle, never let them use the powerwindow switches without supervi-sion. Use the window lock buttonto prevent them from making unex-pected use of the switches.

    Never leave small children alone inthe vehicle, especially with the igni-tion key still inserted. They could

    use the power window switchesand get trapped in a window. Unat-tended children can become in-volved in serious accidents.

    To open the trunk lid from the oinsert the master key and tuen it

    wise.

    To close the trunk lid, lower it anddown on it. After closing the trunkpulling it up to make sure it is seclosed.

    CAUTION!

    Keep the trunk lid closed while driv-ing. This not only keeps the luggage

    from being thrown out but also pre-vents exhaust gases from entering

    the vehicle.

    To open the trunk lid from the driversseat, pull up on the lock release lever. This system deactivates the lolease lever so that things locked

    trunk can be protected.

    1. Push down the security lockto lock the rear seatbacks.

    On vehicles with builtin child reonly the left seatback has a lock levcan be lowered. The right seatbacnot be folded down.

    After locking the rear seatbacks, ting them down to make sure they curely locked, otherwise, someonget into the trunk by folding downseat.

    2. After closing the trunk lid, insertthe master key and turn it counter-

    clockwise to deactivate the lock re-lease lever.

    This system deactivates the lock re-lease lever so that things locked in the

    trunk can be protected.

    After closing the trunk lid, insert themaster key and turn it counterclock-

    wise to deactviate the lock release le-ver.

    After closing the trunk lid, try pulling it upto make sure it is securely closed.

    To open the hood, do the follow

    2. In front of the vehicle, pull up on theauxiliary catch lever and lift thehood.

    3. Hold the hood open by insertingthe support rod into the slot.

    Before closing the hood, check to see thatyou have not forgotten any tools, rags,etc. and return the support rod to its clipthis prevents rattles. Then lower the hoodand make sure it locks into place. If neces-sary press down gently on the front edgeto lock it.

    CAUTION!After inserting the support rod intothe slot, make sure the rod supportsthe hood securely.

    To deter the vehicle theft, the sysdesigned to give an alarm and ke

    engine from being started if anyside doors, trunk lid or hood is f

    unlocked or the battery termdisconnected and then reconwhen the vehicle is locked.

    The alarm blows the horn intermand flashes the headlights, tail lighother exterior lights. The engine be started because the starter circbe cut.

    To resume the setting, close and lock theside doors, trunk and hood. The trunkmust be closed with the key removed.

    CANCELLING THE SYSTEM

    Unlock either front door with the key. Thiscancels the system completely and thestarter circuit cut will be canceled at once.

    INDICATOR LIGHT

    The indicator light gives the followingthree indications.

    FLASHINGThe system is set. Youneed the key to open the side doors, trunklid and hood..

    ONThe system will automatically be setwhen the time comes. The side doors,trunk lid and hood may be opened withouta key.

    OFFThe system is inactive. You mayopen any of the side doors, trunk lid orhood.

    TESTING THE SYSTEM1. Open all the windows.

    2. Set the system as described above.The front doors should be locked withthe key. Be sure to wait until the indica-tor light starts flashing.

    3. Unlock one of the side doors from theinside. The system should activate the

    alarm.

    4. Cancel the system by unlocking either

    front door with the key.5. Repeat this operation for the other

    side doors, trunk lid and hood. Whentesting on the hood, also check that

    the system is activated when the bat-tery terminal is disconnected and then

    reconnected.

    If the system does not work properly, haveit checked by your Toyota dealer. 1. To open the fuel filler door, p

    lever up.

    CAUTION!

    Do not smoke, cause sparkslow open flames when refueThe fumes are flammable.

    When opening the cap, do nmove the cap quickly. In hot wer, fuel under pressure could injury by spraying out of theneck if the cap is suddenmoved.

    2. To remove the fuel tank cap, turn

    the cap slowly counterclockwise,then pause slightly before remov-ing it. after removing the cap, hangit on the cap hanger.

    It is not unusual to hear a slight swooshwhen the cap is opened. When installing,turn the cap clockwise till you hear a click.

    CAUTION!

    Make sure the cap is tightened se-curely to prevent fuel spillage in

    case of an accident. Use only a genuine Toyota fuel tank

    cap for replacement. It has a built incheck valve to reduce fuel tank vac-uum.

    To open the sun roof, push the switchon the SLIDE side. Pushing on the

    opposite side will close it. To tilt up therear end of the sun roof, push the

    switch on the UP side. Pushing onthe opposite side will lower it.

    The ignition key must be in the ON posi-tion.

    The sun roof will move while the switch isbeing pushed and stop when released.However, as a precaution when closing, itstops at the threequarters closed posi-tion before fully closing. Therefore, re-lease the switch and then push it again toclose it completely.

    You may open the sun roof to any desiredposition.

    CAUTION!

    To avoid serious personal injury, youmust do the following. While the vehicle is moving, always

    keep the head, hands and otherparts of the body of all occupantsaway from the roof opening. Other-wise, you could be seriously in-jured if the vehicle stops suddenlyor if the vehicle is involved in an ac-cident.

    Always make sure nobody placeshis/her head, hands and other parts

    of the body in the roof opening be-fore you close the roof. If some-ones neck, head or hands getscaught in the closing roof, it couldresult in a serious injury. When any-one closes the roof, first make sureit is safe to do so.

    Never leave small children alone inthe vehicle, especially with the igni-tion key still inserted. They could

    use the sun roof switched and gettrapped in the roof opeing. Unat-tended children can become in-volved inserious accidents.

    Never sit on top of the vearound the roof opening.
