INT. BONNIE’S BEDROOM - DAY1 1

Blades of golden winter sunlight brighten the crayon- decorated interior of a make-shift cardboard castle. We see JESSE, wearing a plastic crown and an elegantly crude gown fashioned of toilet paper.

A bright-eyed BONNIE donned in pyjamas, provides Jesse a Southern voice.

BONNIEStop! You can’t come in here! I’m a Princess! Guards! Help!

Bonnie laughs sinisterly, holding HAMM, who is wearing a Potato Head Bowler hat. His eyebrows are drawn over with marker, and are frowning. Bonnie prods Jesse with Hamm's snout.

BONNIE (CONT'D)(Deep Voice)Silence! No-one can help you! And I can do whatever-I-like. Because I’m the... (Beat)Evil Wizard- uh... uh...

Bonnie trails off, desperately thinking of a name. She hurriedly looks around her room for inspiration. Her audience of WOODY, BUZZ, REX, SLINKY DOG and MR. and MRS. POTATO HEAD stare silently. BONNIE sighs, pausing.

BONNIE (CONT'D)Evil Wizard... Uh...

BONNIE’S MOM (O.C)Bonnie, honey! Breakfast is ready!

Bonnie giggles and gets up, dropping Hamm onto the carpet. His cork comes out and his coins spill out. Bonnie grabs Jesse and leaves. The door closes.

The toys spring to life. Hamm picks himself up and shakes his head.

HAMMWhy am I always the bad guy? Can’t I be the good guy, just once? Is that too much to ask?

MR. POTATO HEAD laughs at this as he walks by. He slaps Hamm on his back. His coins spill out again. Hamm grunts and picks them up again, muttering under his breath.

MR. POTATO HEADYou’re typecast. You, me- we all are. We’ve been doing the same thing for years. And you know what? I wouldn’t trade it for anythin’ in the world.

Hamm plugs his cork back in testily.

HAMMSince when did you become so level headed?

Mr. Potato Head sighs reflectively.

MR. POTATO HEADI’ve got kids now. It’s different. I don’t know. Look- evil wizard or not- you’re in the spotlight. Embrace it.

Hamm smiles, but his frowning eyes make Mr. Potato Head confused.

MR. POTATO HEAD (CONT'D)And turn that frown upside down! You’re creeping me out!

Hamm sees his reflection on a mirrored closet, and rubs the ink from his brow. He laughs.

HAMMThanks, ya old spud-head!

Using his butt, Hamm hits Mr. Potato Head hard on his back. His face comes flying off.

We follow his mouth as it skids to a halt. It’s laughing. His body stumbles around and his arms grope the air.

MR. POTATO HEADGood hit, Pork Chop!(Beat)Okay, kids! Who wants to find Daddy’s eyes?

REX walks by with TRIXIE. They are giggling.

REXI really like morning theater!

TRIXIEI know! You never know what’s going to happen. It’s like that Spanish show on TV. Only better ‘cause it’s in person. Oh, and I don’t speak Spanish. But I can “feel” out the plot.

REXYou’re so interesting!

BUZZ and WOODY stand with MR. PRICKLEPANTS, as the PEAS IN A POD fight over face pieces with LGM, giggling. Mr. Pricklepants sighs in content.

MR. PRICKLEPANTSGentlemen, I do believe that life as toys does not get better! Companionship, a good home and friends. Something to be thankful for, wouldn’t you say?

Woody smiles, but there is sadness behind it. Buzz notices. Woody stares ahead in silence and looks to the window.

WOODYExcuse me. I’m going to go look out the window for a while...

Woody walks off, leaving Buzz and Mr Pricklepants.

MR. PRICKLEPANTSIs the chap okay?

Buzz watches him leave.

BUZZI’m sure he’s fine. Maybe he’s just upset that Bonnie is playing with Jesse more these days.

Buzz watches Woody climb onto the bed and sit alone by the window.

MR. PRICKLEPANTSI dare say I agree with you. I myself went through a stage of melancholy over my lack of stage time. (Beat)He hasn’t been a regular for a few shows, now. As she grows, it will happen to all of us. I remember the time-

BUZZWill you excuse me? I’m going to go talk to him.

Mr Pricklepants nods and bows theatrically.

MR. PRICKLEPANTSWhy not at all, my good man. And give him my best.

Buzz nods and heads toward the bed.

INT. KITCHEN - DAY2 2

Bonnie is happily eating cereal whilst her MOM is cleaning. Jesse sits propped by a cereal box on the table- out of reach, but beside her.

Bonnie finishes her cereal and pushes her bowl forward quickly. It tips over. Bonnie looks at her Mom. The milk is creeps over to Jesse's leg. Bonnie shrieks.

BONNIEHelp Jesse! I made a mess, Mom!

As Bonnie looks at her Mom, Jesse quickly moves her leg out of the way of the milk, then falls still suddenly as Bonnie looks over, pointing.

BONNIE (CONT'D)Hurry, it’s going to spill on Jesse and I can’t reach her!

Mom quickly soaks up the milk. Bonnie stares at Jesse, puzzled. She is safely away from the spill. Mom points to her.

MOMShe's fine. See? You know you should be more careful, honey.

Mom hands Jesse to Bonnie, and she gazes at her in wonder.

BONNIEShe moved! She moved Mommy, she’s alive! She’s alive!

Bonnie dances. Mom laughs again, and rinses a cloth in the sink. She bends down to Bonnie and kisses her on the head.

MOMI wish I had your imagination, honey. Go on, get ready for school. The bus will be here soon.

Bonnie hugs her Mom and scampers away clutching Jesse. Mom watches her leave and sighs, smiling warmly.

INT. BONNIE'S BEDROOM - DAY4 4

Bonnie lines toys for a fashion show. JESSE, TRIXIE and MRS. POTATO HEAD and BARBIE are placed in a row, one-by-one. As Bonnie changes, Ken sneaks in and sits down next to Barbie, giddy with excitement.

Bonnie tries an outfit on. It is a Pink Ballerina outfit, and she twirls clumsily, and then falls over.

INT. MOM’S BEDROOM - DAY.5 5

Bonnie has her Mom's make up. Bonnie has put lipstick all over hers and Jesse's face. Bonnie's eyes are blue with eye shadow, and she has a fake eyelash hanging from her left cheek.

INT. BATHROOM - DAY.6 6

Mom is scrubbing the lipstick off Bonnie's face, while Bonnie cleans off Jesse. Bonnie laughs, and Mom can’t help but smile.

INT. BONNIE’S BEDROOM - DAY.7 7

The next outfit BONNIE parades is one of her MOM’s shirts- where she trips on a sleeve and falls over. MOM catches her and she tries to get up and run away, but she falls over again.


The third outfit is a Cowgirl outfit. She has a rope and twirls it. It wraps around her ankles, and she falls over.

The final outfit is a pair of blue bibs and a yellow T-shirt. She twirls in this outfit one too many times, holding Jesse. She gets dizzy. Then falls over.

INT. KITCHEN - DAY10 10

Bonnie and her Mom are making a packed lunch. Bonnie helps make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Jesse sits close by, smiling.

INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY11 11

Bonnie places Jesse in her back pack and ZIPS it up. Mom opens the front door as a school bus pulls up outside the house. BEEP! BEEP! It HONKS cheerily, and the doors HISS open.

Bonnie kisses her Mom goodbye and runs to the bus- the snow CRUNCHING under her feet. The Bus pulls away, and Mom waves as she watches it leave.

BONNIE'S BEDROOM - DAY12 12

We see the school bus drive up the snowy street, and pan back to Woody. Woody SIGHS and stands up. Buzz walks up to Woody.

BUZZWhat is it, Woody? You haven’t been yourself lately.

WOODYI don’t know, Buzz... Ever since we got here, I don’t feel.(Beat)Needed.

Buzz frowns.

BUZZWhat do you mean? Of course you’re needed! Bonnie loves you! What is this all about? Is it because she plays with Jesse more than you?

WOODYNo! (Beat)Yes! I don’t know.

BUZZLook around this room, Woody.

Woody looks around. It is a sea of pink and girly-ness.

BUZZ (CONT'D)You may or may not have noticed, but Bonnie is a girl. And Jesse is a girl. Are you that surprised?

WOODYNo. It’s just that when Andy-

BUZZWoody, those days are behind us. You had your time with Andy. (Beat)We all did.

Buzz stares out of the window reflectively. Woody chuckles to himself.

WOODYYou know it's funny. (Beat)After all we’ve been through, all we’ve seen and done... (Beat)I miss going out there, Buzz. I miss being treasured. This place... It’s safe. It’s nice and all.(Beat)

(MORE)

Great, really. I should be happy, but...

BUZZI remember when I was going through a difficult time-

Woody smirks and puts his hand on his hip.

WOODYBuzz, I hardly think that dressing up as woman and calling yourself “Mrs. Nesbitt” can be reduced down to being called: a (Motioning with hands)“difficult time.”

BUZZYes, well... (coughs awkwardly)Those days are behind me. The point is that you told me that I was a Toy. I was Andy’s toy. And that was my job. And I needed to hear that.(Beat)Well I’m telling you that you are Bonnie’s Toy. And that is your job now.

Woody SIGHS, looking at his boot.

WOODYIt would help if Bo Peep was around. She used that hook of hers to yank some sense into me.

Buzz pats Woody on the shoulder. He smiles warmly.

BUZZWoody, wherever she is, I’m sure she’d want you to move on. Have you considered dating at all? Putting yourself back out there?

Woody laughs nervously, rubbing his neck.

WOODY (CONT'D)

WOODYNo! Where’s “out there?” We live in a room, Buzz. Besides, look at me. I’m not exactly anyone’s “type”.

Woody wiggles his gangly arms and legs. Buzz scoffs.

BUZZNonsense! Lets take a look around the room.

Buzz leads Woody to the edge of the bed and they look around. MR and MRS POTATO HEAD are laughing as the LITTLE GREEN MEN roll the PEAS IN A POD around on the floor. REX and TRIXIE are reading a book on dinosaurs together.

Hamm and Buttercup are playing checkers.

Dolly is sitting on Bonnie's desk by the window, listening to the radio. The sun shines on her. Woody stares at her. Dolly notices, and looks back. She waves, smiling.

Woody blushes and quickly looks away. Buzz smirks. He punches Woody on the arm playfully.

BUZZ (CONT'D)You like her, don’t you?

Woody looks away and drums his fingers nervously on his buckle.

WOODYI don’t know what you’re talking about, Buzz. And even if I did, I doubt-

BUZZYou doubt what? That a well-travelled, kind-hearted cowboy deserves to be with someone like him?

Woody SCOFFS.

10.

WOODYDon’t be silly, Buzz. I don’t want to date a cowboy.

BUZZThat’s not what I meant! My point is that Dolly is a great person. And so are you. (Beat)So... go talk to her!

Woody shakes his head, blushing. Buzz nudges Wood in Dolly’s direction. Woody resists.

WOODYNo, no! I-I’m no good at that stuff!

BUZZYou get used to it! I’ll get her attention!

Buzz cups his hands around his mouth and yells by Woody's ear. Woody flails, startled.

BUZZ (CONT'D)Hey! Dolly! Over here!

Woody angrily whispers at Buzz.

WOODYBuzz! What in blazes are you doing?

Dolly stands up, turns the radio off and walks over to the edge of the desk.

DOLLYHey Buzz! What’s up?

BUZZ(Still yelling)WOODY has something he wants to tell you!

11.

BUZZ (CONT'D)(Whispering)Here’s your chance! Knock ‘er dead, Cowboy!

Woody is bright red and mortified. He pulls his hat over his eyes. Dolly smiles. Woody talks to himself.

WOODY(To himself)This isn’t happening. It’s a bad dream, is all... I’m not here...(Beat)Just look away... And she won’t say anything to you...

BUZZ pulls WOODY over to the bed’s edge. WOODY tries to resist and scramble away, but BUZZ overpowers WOODY, grabbing him around the waist and placing him down beside him.

WOODY (CONT'D)Buzz, I can’t do this! I don’t know what to say!

BUZZJust be yourself!

Woody stands staring- still and silent for 10 seconds. Dolly waits patiently, smiling.

NOTE: As this transpires, the entire room has gone silent and is watching. Woody looks down and sees all eyes upon him. He drums his fingers on his buckle, and laugh awkwardly.

WOODY(To himself)This is a nightmare... Soon I’ll wake up, and-

DOLLYIs everything okay Woody? What did you need to say?

Woody is frozen in silence. Buzz panics and yanks Woody’s pull string. His voice box speaks.

12.

WOODY(Pull string voice)Howdy Partner!

Dolly laughs warmly.

DOLLYHowdy yourself!

Woody laughs sheepishly. Buzz yanks the cord again.

WOODY(Pull string voice)You’re my favorite Deputy!

Dolly blushes, looking down bashfully. Woody stays silent.

DOLLYThat’s nice of you to say, Woody. (Beat)I like you, too. What took you so long to say something?

Woody blinks and exhales, but says nothing. Buzz gives the thumbs up to Woody, grinning. He yanks the pull string again.

WOODY(Pull string voice)There’s a snake in my boots!

Dolly laughs.

DOLLYYou cowboys and your sayings! They make me laugh! Would you like to go for a walk tomorrow?

Woody's eyes widen, but he seems surprised and happy. Woody nods. He opens his mouth to speak, and Buzz pulls his draw string once more.

WOODY(Pull string voice)Yee Haw! Cowboy!

Dolly giggles.

DOLLYOkay then! Tomorrow it is! See ya’ll later! Is that right?

Woody nods, smiling awkwardly. Dolly turns away and sits back down by the window. Woody sighs, then looks down at the toys staring at him. He faints theatrically.

Buzz laughs.

INT. BONNIE'S BACKPACK - DAY13 13

Jesse- surrounded by the green light of Bonnie's backpack- is listening to a conversation between Bonnie and her friend, Ellie. Her ear is pressed up against the bag.

BONNIEFor show and tell? I brought my favorite toy, Jesse!

ELLIEWho’s Jesse? Is she a dolly like my Susie?

Jesse gasps, blushing and holding her hands to her heart.

JESSE(Whispering to herself)I’m her favorite? I’m her favorite!Yipee!

Jesse fist pumps and does a small and light jig before listening some more.

BONNIEYou wanna see her?

ELLIEUh-huh!

ZIP! Bonnie’s arm comes into view, and Jesse falls still. Bonnie lifts Jesse out of the back pack.

14.

INT. SCHOOL BUS - DAY14 14

We are at the front of the bus. Bonnie sits next to ELLIE- her pig-tailed, thickly bespectacled, African-American friend. Ellie is dressed head to toe in pinks of various hue.

Bonnie holds Jesse in her hands. Ellie GASPS, peering through her thick glasses.

BONNIESee? Isn’t she amazing?

ELLIESure is! Just look at her hair! It’s so pretty!

Bonnie laughs, playfully tossing Jesse into the air.

BONNIEWe have so many adventures, Jessie and I! What did you bring, Ellie?

Ellie reaches into her back pack and strains to pull out a rock with a pink leash tied around it.

It is uniform grey, and has a set of googly eyes glued on it. They jiggle as she sets it on her lap.

ELLIEThis is my pet rock, Bartholomew!

Bonnie GASPS.

BONNIEWow! I have never seen a pet rock before!

ELLIENot many people have.

Ellie looks proud. Bonnie stares at the rock in fascination.

BONNIECan it do tricks?

Ellie giggles, revealing missing teeth.

15.

ELLIENo, silly! He’s a rock. He just sits there, mostly.

Bonnie looks up at Ellie.

BONNIEMostly? Does he move at all?

ELLIESometimes I think he does. But even if he did, he wouldn’t tell me. He’s really shy.

They stare at the rock.

BONNIEI think Jesse moves when I’m not looking, too! This morning, I spilt my milk on the table, and it was going to get her, but I looked away for a second and she had moved!

Ellie GASPS and holds her mouth.

ELLIEReally? No way!

BONNIEUh-Huh. It’s true!

Bonnie and Ellie stare at Jessie. We leave on Jesse's smiling, still face and pan around the bus to the back.

The talking and laughing children are holding various items for show and tell.

One boy has a plastic flamingo, and is menacing his friend with it, who GIGGLES. One boy sits wearing a Darth Vader mask.

Another boy has a star ball, a girl hugs a plushy Sully toy next to him. One chubby boy has a small cactus, another has a chewed dog toy. At the back of the bus, is a gloomy- faced SAD GIRL.

16.

She frowns on all of the classmates. The Girl is dressed in darker clothes, and is gloomy.

She looks down at her empty hands. She SIGHS heavily, and looks out of the window.


Woody sits at a make-shift boardroom table of hard cover books and blocks. With him sit Buzz, Hamm, Rex, SLINKY DOG, Mr Potato Head, Dolly and Buttercup. Woody is at the head on the table.

WOODYThank you all for being here.

MR POTATO HEADPffft! It’s not like we were doing anything important!

Buttercup fidgets in his seat. He speaks shyly.

BUTTERCUPI have been working on ideas for a new name for me...

REXBut why? I like Buttercup! It’s a good name!

Mr Potato Head scoffs, pointing at Buttercup.

17.

MR POTATO HEADIf you’re a girl, it is! Rex, he’s a he!

BUTTERCUPHe’s right. You all have manly names: Rex, Buzz, Woody. And I’m Buttercup. It doesn’t feel right to me.

HAMMAt least you have a nice name! I’m named after a food. And, I’m always Evil Wizard this, Overlord that. Bonnie makes me rob banks. When I am one.

Hamm shakes his insides, pouting. The coins JINGLE. He shakes his head.

HAMM (CONT'D)My life is one cruel joke...

REXBut that’s pretend. It’s a stage name! It’s not real, Hamm!

MR. POTATO HEADNo, but that belly is!

Mr Potato Head laughs. Hamm frowns and reaches across the table. He plucks off Mr Potato Head's mouth and tosses it away.

It lands on the carpet a few feet away, but within earshot.

MR. POTATO HEAD (CONT'D)Nice toss, ya hockey puck! I can still talk, you know!

Mr Potato Head, mouth-less and frowning, is mocked by the TOYS at the table. Woody smirks, but does not laugh. Woody sees Buzz laughing. Buzz COUGHS, and clears his throat.

18.

BUZZSorry.

MR. POTATO HEAD’S LIPSWoody, are you going to let this kind of mockery go on? This is supposed to be a serious meeting!

REXBut you started it!

Hamm, Rex and Potato Head all begin to argue. Slinky Dog frowns. Dolly sits patiently. Potato Head fetches his lips and POPS them back in.

HAMMWhy are you even in this meeting, anyway? You’re just a plastic pin cushion full of hate.

MR. POTATO HEADI’ve got seniority! I know my rights! (Beat)Good insult, by the way.

Hamm grins and bows graciously.

SLINKY DOGGolly Bob Howdy! What kind of meeting is this, anyway?

Woody sighs. Buzz shrugs. The arguing continues. Dolly stands up.

DOLLYEnough arguing, guys. Please!

Potato Head rolls his eyes.

NOTE: Potato Head mimics Dolly's movements behind her.

DOLLY (CONT'D)I think if you guys quieted down for a second Woody can tell us.

(MORE)

19.

I know you have all been through a lot together, but this is serious, and-

Dolly cannot see him and continues. Potato Head makes more gestures. Rex and Hamm SNICKER. Dolly whips around. Potato Head looks away, twiddling his thumbs.

DOLLY (CONT'D)And Woody has always put-

MR. POTATO HEADOh Woody!(Smooching noises)

Potato Head chuckles. The toys join in. Dolly blushes. Woody frowns, and brings a squeaky hammer down on the table angrily. It brings silence.

WOODYAlright that does it! (Beat)Leave Dolly alone! (Beat)Rex, if Buttercup wants a new name, it’s a free playroom. You’re toys. Not children. Act like it.

Silence falls. Woody continues.

WOODY (CONT'D)I can see that there other issues that need to be dealt with, but I called this meeting for another reason. (Beat)Guys, we have trouble.

Rex gasps, falling off his chair. He peeks over the table top sheepishly.

REXTrouble? Where?

Woody sighs. The other toys at the table look concerned.

DOLLY (CONT'D)

WOODYNot here, Rex. At least not yet, anyway. Sit down.

MR. POTATO HEADSpill it, Woody! What’s goin’ on?

Rex sits back down, embarrassed. Woody lifts up a walkie-talkie and presses the button down. It beeps.

WOODYBring him out, Ken.

KEN(ON WALKIE-TALKIE)On my way.

Ken, wearing a camouflage outfit, escorts a mustard-yellow TROOPER into the frame. They salute Woody and Buzz, who salute back. Ken and the Trooper stand at attention.

WOODYAt ease, men.

Ken and the Trooper stand at ease.

WOODY (CONT'D)Can you debrief us on what you saw, Corporal Hicks?

The Trooper, now known as HICKS, stands at attention and salutes.

HICKSSir yes sir! Whilst on patrol at approximately 0330 hours, a distress signal was placed by Delta Company, after-

Dolly raises her hand.

DOLLYI’m sorry, who is Delta Company?

21.

BUZZThey’re a Battalion from the Davidson place next door. Hicks is one of them. Good people.

KEN(Yelling)That is correct, sir! Fine bunch of soldiers!

Dolly is taken aback by the strict behavior of Ken.

DOLLYOkay. Thank you, Ken.

KENMy pleasure ma’am. The core is here to serve.

Ken giggles, jumping up and down excitedly. He whispers to Woody, grinning.

KEN (CONT'D)I like this game!

WOODYGo on, Corporal.

HICKSYes sir! As I was saying, sir, we were on a routine night watch.

INT. DAVIDSON’S HOUSE - CHILD’S BEDROOM - NIGHT - FLASHBACK16 16

We see Bonnie's window a house away. Her lights are off, and a rotating night light casts a warm glow in the darkness. Ken stands watch.

A DELTA COMPANY window watch turns on a Lite-Brite. It flashes green twice. Ken signals with a thumbs up. All is quiet.

22.

Suddenly, CRASHING and BREAKING glass can be heard from downstairs, followed by muffled conversation. The Watch gives a signal to Hicks nearby.

Hicks jumps down off a nearby desk, and runs to the open bedroom door.

INT. DAVIDSON’S HOUSE - UPSTAIRS LANDING - NIGHT17 17

Hicks runs to the edge of the landing and parachutes to the base of the stairs. He lands safely. He gives a thumbs up above him.

Upstairs, 3 DELTA COMPANY soldiers lower a slack line of dental floss down to Hicks. He receives it, and ties it around his leg.

He tugs once, and heads to the living room. CRASHING and BREAKING glass continues as Hicks peeks around the corner.

INT. DAVIDSON’S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT18 18

Two BURGLARS are loading sacks with valuables. They have head-mounted flashlights. One is short and stocky. The other, tall and thin. They both have crowbars.

The short MAN is HARRY, and the TALL one is MARV. Marv loads a box of jewelry into his sack.

MARVMan, there’s so much cool stuff in here, Harry!

Harry WHACKS Marv in the stomach with his crow bar. Marv GROANS.

HARRYI told you not to use my name, youidiot! (Beat)Now, help me with this TV set.

23.

Marv drops his sack and helps Harry. Hicks GASPS as he sees this. Harry and Marv walk towards him with the TV. Marv grunts. Hicks tugs three times on his line.


The Delta Company soldiers yank in the line as fast as possible. Marv and Harry are now right by the stairs. Hicks is pulled up- just as they pass. Marv stops, his headlight shines upstairs.

MARVWait a second. (Beat)I thought I saw something at the top of the stairs.

Harry shines his light upstairs.

HARRYWhat?

They both look up at the stairs. All is quiet.

MARVI don’t know. (Beat)But I’m sure I saw somethin’.

HARRYYou’re just jumpy. Grab the rest of the bags. I’ll go upstairs and check.

Harry and Marv put the TV down. Marv hands Harry his crowbar.

MARVBe careful. Take this up there with you.

HARRYWhat am I going to do with it? Beat ‘em with it?

24.

MARVKids are tough! We’ve been wrong before, you know...

HARRYThere ain’t no kids here, Marv. We checked. No dogs, neither.

Harry cracks his knuckles, grinning. Marv laughs to himself.

MARVTo think that little brat is grown up.(Beat)We’re getting old. Harry, have you ever thought about a change of career?

Harry WHACKS Marv in the stomach again with the crow bar. Marv groans.

MARV (CONT'D)Ow!

HARRYI told you to quit using my name! If this house ain’t empty, then they know who I am, you dolt!

MARVSorry Har-

Marv holds his mouth closed. Harry's eyes flash with anger, and he raises his crow bar. Marv flinches. Harry heads to the stairs.

HARRYGo and grab the other bags and load ‘em! I’m going up.

Harry shines his headlight upstairs once more. Delta Company and Hicks hide in shadow. Harry climbs the stairs, as Marv watches nervously.

Harry shines his head lamp around cautiously. He is breath is slow and deep. The stairs CREAK.

HARRY (CONT'D)(To himself)Okay, so far so good. You can do this. It’s just a regular house. No tricks.

Harry gets to the landing and looks around. He sees Delta Company soldiers and Hicks laying motionless. He laughs to himself dismissively.

Harry looks around in each room. Satisfied, he walks down the stairs.

HARRY (CONT'D)This house is empty. Now lets go! We’re wasting time.

Marv and Harry pick the TV up and carry it to the front door.

MARVWhat about that house next door? Looked pretty nice from the outside.

HARRYAll in good time, my friend. All in good time...


We hear the front door close. Delta Company and Hicks spring to life. They run to the bedroom.

INT. DAVIDSON’S HOUSE - CHILD’S BEDROOM - NIGHT21 21

Hicks climbs up on the desk and runs to the Lite Brite. He changes the pegs from green to red and turns it off and on. The Delta Company Soldiers beside him nod and signal across the room to the closet.

INT. BONNIES’ BEDROOM - NIGHT22 22

Ken silently slides the window open, and he and Trixie hold a baseball glove.

At Bonnie's window, Ken waves: “come over”.

INT. DAVIDSON’S HOUSE - CHILD’S BEDROOM - NIGHT23 23

Several Delta Company soldiers set up a sling shot and pull tension on it. Hicks hops in the cup of the slingshot and gives a thumbs up. They release it, and Hicks flies into the night air.

INT. BONNIE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT24 24

Bonnie is asleep. Hicks lands silently and perfectly in the glove. Ken helps him out and closes the window. Bonnie turns in her bed. Trixie, Ken and Hicks creep away.

FADE TO BLACK.


We are back in the meeting. Everyone at the table is silent and has a scared look in their eye.

WOODYThank you Corporal. Go rest up. We will get you back to Delta Company at sundown.

Hicks salutes.

HICKSSir, yes sir!

Hicks stands at attention. Buzz nudges Woody.

WOODYOh! Dismissed!

Buttercup leans in to Slinky Dog.

BUTTERCUPKind of intense, isn’t he? Such focus!

Hicks salutes, as does Woody. Hicks leaves. Ken remains. There is momentary silence. Then Rex jumps up.

REXWe’re all doomed!

This creates panic amongst Hamm, Buttercup, and Slinky Dog. Woody stares at them, unimpressed. Buzz shakes his head. Woody hits the hammer on the table. It SQUEAKS loudly. He stands up.

WOODYAlright, alright! Enough!(Beat)This isn’t the first time we’ve seen some action. And I’m sure it won’t be the last. But we need to prepare for this.

Potato Head scoffs.

MR. POTATO HEADHow? We’re toys! How are we supposed to do anything?

WOODYI don’t know! But we have to do something! Big or small, stealing is wrong.

Hamm jumps onto the table.

HAMMI’ve been a bank robber more times than I can count. I wanna’ be good for a change! I’m with you, Woody! Let’s show these burglars whose house this is!

Slinky, Buzz, Dolly, Rex and Buttercup CHEER. Potato Head sits, his arms folded. He rolls his eyes. Woody hits his hammer on the table repeatedly. It SQUEAKS loudly. The toys fall silent.

WOODYBuzz will help us plan our counter measures and strategy. Guys, in order for this to work, we need to work as a team. Put your differences aside and think of Bonnie and her Mom.

Woody gets up from the table.

WOODY (CONT'D)Over to you, Buzz.

Woody walks off. Buzz starts pacing, his hands behind his back.

BUZZOkay, people listen up! I want this thing to go smooth, and by the numbers.

INT. CLASSROOM - DAY26 26

The front of the class. Various students display their “show and tell” item. The star ball, The Darth Vader mask, the Sully plushy toy, the cactus, Ellie’s pet rock followed by the dog toy.

The Sad Girl from the school bus sits in the corner, doodling in a sketchpad.

Up last is a nervous Bonnie. She shuffles up to the front with her backpack and clears her throat.

BONNIE(Timidly)My show and tell item is my cowgirl named Jesse.

She pulls out Jesse from her backpack and shows it around the class. The Sad Girl in the corner, now known as Jenna, is entranced by the doll.

Time slows as Jenna stares at Jesse. She sees nothing else. Jenna smiles for the first time. Shortly after, Bonnie is done her presentation. She smiles, heading back to her seat.

RRRRRRING! The day is over. The children all CHEER and charge for the door. The teacher lets them file out. Jenna tails Bonnie- who walks with Ellie.

ELLIEThat was fun! You did well up there today. I was so scared!

BONNIEThanks! You did well, too. I think they liked Bartholomew!

They both GIGGLE and leave the classroom.

INT. SCHOOL CORRIDOR - DAY27 27

Bonnie's backpack is open, and Jenna is closing in on her prey. Jenna tries to sneak her hand in the pack, but Bonnie changes direction and weaves through the crowd.

Jenna sees an opening and grabs Jesse in a panic. Jenna sprints away into the corridor. Bonnie and Ellie give chase.

BONNIEHey! That’s mine! Give her back!

Jenna pushes into children, and scrambles through the crowd as she tries to escape. She sees the tall, angular-faced and overall mean-looking principal, MRS. MAVEN, (60's) up ahead.

Jenna looks over her shoulder, Bonnie and Ellie are closing in. Jenna sees a cup of coffee in Mrs. Maven's hands, and slows down just before she hits her. She winces. Mrs. Maven snaps her neck to Jenna.

MRS. MAVENWhat have I told you about running in the h-

Bonnie and Ellie plow into Jenna, who then SLAMS into Mrs. Maven. SPLASH! The coffee pours all over her face and she SCREAMS, wide- eyed.

All students freeze.

Mrs. Maven is red faced, soaked with coffee and furious.

Jenna, Bonnie and Ellie have cover their ears and look up at her in sheer terror. In shock, Mrs. Maven sobs, wiping coffee from her face. Gaining composure, she glares at the crowd of students watching her.

MRS. MAVEN (CONT'D)(Yelling)What are you all looking at?! Get on about your business, or I will have you all in detention!

A boy in the crowd has a bubble blown in his gum as he watches her. She glares at him, and sign behind that reads: “No Chewing Gum”. Her gaze seems to pop the bubble. She GROWLS.

MRS. MAVEN (CONT'D)Scatter!

The crowd dissipates instantly. Jenna tries to scramble away, but Mrs. Maven grabs her by the collar. She sees Jesse in Jenna's hand. Mrs. Maven rips it out of her grip, and Jesse's leg tears.

MRS. MAVEN (CONT'D)Give me that, you little brat!

Bonnie jumps up and reaches for Jesse.

BONNIEHey! That’s my Jesse doll! She took her!

JENNANo I didn’t!

ELLIEYes, she did!

MRS. MAVENThe rules are clear: you aren’t allowed toys in the school grounds. It always leads to this kind of base behavior!

Bonnie frowns, defiantly reaching for Jesse.

BONNIEIt was for show and tell!

Mrs. Maven holds Jesse higher with one arm and Bonnie back with the other. Bonnie spies Jesse's torn leg. She starts to tear up.

MRS. MAVENThat is no matter. No toys in school!(Beat) And stop that! Rules are rules. Show and tell is over.

BONNIEYou broke my Jesse, you-you old meanie!

Mrs. Maven leans in closely, coffee dripping down her face.

32.

MRS. MAVENYou are lucky that I do not call the police and have you taken away in chains!

Bonnie GASPS in fear.

MRS. MAVEN (CONT'D)After I talk this through with your mother, your “Jesse” will be spending some time in my office until your behavior and manners improve!

We leave with a shot of Bonnie's face as it runs with tears. She reaches after Jesse as Mrs. Maven SLAMS her door shut.

INT. MRS. MAVEN’S OFFICE - DAY28 28

Mrs. Maven rips open a closet door and throws Jesse inside. Jesse slams into the wall and lands by a box that says:

CONFISCATED.

The door slams shut, leaving Jesse in darkness.

INT. VENT ABOVE BONNIE AND MRS. MAVEN - DAY29 29

POV

We see through the eyes of an UNKNOWN FIGURE. It watches Bonnie sob and walk slowly toward the exit. The tin vent POPS as it follows Bonnie.


The snow is falling hard, and it's gloomy outside. Bonnie is slouched over her Jessie-less backpack, sobbing. Ellie consoles her and rubs her back. The bus drops various children off at their houses.

ELLIEJesse will be okay. I promise.

Bonnie talks with her face buried in her backpack.

BONNIEBut... but her leg is torn...

ELLIEWhen you get her back, your Mom can stitch her back up. She’ll be as good as new!

BONNIE(SNIFFLING)You think so?

ELLIEUh-huh. My Daddy fixed my glasses when they broke. Look!

Ellie turns her head. Her glasses are taped up messily.

The bus drives through a run-down neighborhood and stops outside an old, dilapidated trailer. Jenna, sullen, gets off the bus and walks up to the trailer.

We hear dogs barking in the background, and sirens from nearby police.

ELLIE (CONT'D)Bonnie, look.

Bonnie raises her head and looks out the window, pressing her face against it.

INT. UNDER BONNIE’S SEAT - DAY31 31

POV

The Unknown Figure watches through a small gap as Bonnie stares out the window.

Bonnie and Ellie watch Jenna enter her home.

BONNIEI didn’t know this was her house...

Jenna's Mother, dressed in a waitress outfit, opens the door and grabs Jenna by the hand, slamming the door behind her.

Moments later, Jenna's Mom opens the door and hurries to her car in the snow, before pulling out into the street.

Bonnie and Ellie exchange glances.

ELLIEThat’s sad. She looks all alone...

Bonnie, conflicted, looks at Jenna's house, and can just make out Jenna sitting by the window staring as the bus pulls away.

Bonnie puts her backpack on the bus floor and sits in sad silence.

EXT. BONNIE'S HOUSE - DAY33 33

The school bus pulls stops. Bonnie steps off, her head hanging. Mom is waiting in the doorway. Bonnie runs to her, and they embrace. Ellie waves goodbye as the bus pulls away.

Bonnie sobs into her mother’s shoulder.

MOMWant some hot chocolate?

Bonnie sniffs.

BONNIEYes please.

Mom closes the door.

INT. BONNIES’ BEDROOM - DUSK34 34

Buzz is pacing on the bed. He looks concerned. Woody is with him.

BUZZSomething is wrong.

WOODYThere is a perfectly reasonable explanation for this.

BUZZLike what, Woody? Jesse is always home by now!

Woody pauses in thought.

WOODYI don’t know. If I did know, we’d know where she is.(Beat)I miss her too, but this isn’t our only problem, Buzz!

Buzz drops to his knees.

BUZZ(In Spanish)My red headed beauty is missing! II just don’t know what I’d do if she was hurt, or missing, or torn apart! I can’t take it! It is too much for my heart!

WOODYSnap out of it, Buzz!

Woody smacks Buzz in the face. It SQUEAKS.

BUZZThank... Thank you. I needed that.

Buzz gets to his feet. He looks out the window, and makes a fist.

BUZZ (CONT'D)I’m going out to find her, Woody.

(CONT'D)

WOODYNo! We need you here, Buzz.(Beat)I need you here. They could break in at any time now.(Beat)Buzz, I can’t do this without you.

Buzz pats Woody on the shoulder.

BUZZYou ran this place long before I showed up, Cowboy. You know what to do. You said you feel like you aren’t needed? (Beat)You are needed now more than ever.

WOODYBut I can’t do it without you, Buzz!

WOODY (CONT'D)Yeah, but-

BUZZYou said it yourself- you’ve been on the sidelines a while now. Time to get back in centre stage, Woody.

INT. MRS MAVEN’S OFFICE - NIGHT35 35

A WHISTLING CUSTODIAN, wearing ear bud headphones wheels his cleaning cart out of the room.. He locks the door, and his whistling fades away as we zoom in on the closet.

INT. MRS. MAVEN’S OFFICE CLOSET - NIGHT36 36

It is dark, cluttered and quiet. The glow from the desktop computer shines under the door, casting an eerie light.

We hear the Custodian drive away, followed by a moment of silence. We hear a deep voice with an Austrian accent.

VOICE(MUFFLED)I don’t suppose you could move over, could you please? You’re sitting on me.

Jesse gasps. We hear RUSTLING.

VOICE (CONT'D)Thank you.

JESSEWho are you? Who is that? Where amI?

VOICEIs the coast clear?

VOICE 2(Distant)Yeah! All clear, Brother!

VOICELights!

Jumping from a shelf, a SHADOWY FIGURE grabs the light cord, then jumps onto a folded wool blanket. CLICK! The light comes on. The figure is a Cobra Commander action figure. He is referred to as COMMANDER from now on.

Startled, Jesse scoots backwards. She backs into the box. A dead end. Panicking, Jesse looks up. A STRETCH ARMSTRONG action figure stares back. He smiles, then jumps down. We know him now as Stretch.

STRETCHHere, let me help you.

He reaches to grab her hand. Jesse shakes her head.

JESSEWait! My leg. It’s torn!

Stretch reacts quickly, assessing the injury closely.

STRETCHMedic!

A HULK HOGAN action figure runs over to Stretch. We know now him as Hulk. He smiles at Jesse.

HULKWell hello there, little lady!

He sees her tear and grimaces.

HULK (CONT'D)That 's a big one! You okay?

Jesse puts on a brave face.

STRETCHSee if there is a needle andthread for our new friend, will you?

HULKYou got it, brother!

Hulk runs out of view. Jesse watches him leave.

JESSEIs he your brother?

Stretch laughs.

STRETCHEveryone is his brother. Don’t ask. Just go with it.

Stretch flashes a grin, takes Jesse's hand and kisses it. She goes deep red.

STRETCH (CONT'D)Stretch Armstrong, at your service.

JESSE(FLUSTERED)J-Jesse. At yours.

STRETCHNice to meet you, Jesse.(Beat) Now please excuse me. I have to rally the rest of the squad. I’m sure they’d love to meet you. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a fresh face around here.

Stretch climbs back up on top of the box. We hear more voices inside it.

VOICE 1What’s going on out there? I pity the fool who dare come without an invite!

VOICE 2I don’t know! Do you think it’s safe to come out?

VOICE 3It’s obviously safe to come out, or they wouldn’t be talking. Be patient.

Stretch peels open the box and several toys climb out, one by one. VOICE 1 is a B.A. Baracus Action Figure, now known as BA.

VOICE 2 is a Grislor action figure, now known as GRIZ.

NOTE: For the time being, from any shot, we do not see his backside.

VOICE 3 is a Magneto figure. We know him as MAGNETO.

The toys jump down and see Jesse. Stretch is the last to jump down. Jesse flinches at the sight of them all. Magneto extends his hand to shake Jesse's. She is hesitant.

JESSEHi Y’all. My name’s Jesse.

MAGNETOCharmed. My name is Magneto. (Beat)I assure you we mean no harm. The man in blue over there is The Commander.

Commander joins the group, and waves.

MAGNETO (CONT'D)The big guy with the chains is BA.

BA nods, and shakes her hand. He looks at her torn leg.

BAWhat’s up little lady friend? Say, that leg of yours looks beat up!

There is silence. Jesse stares at all of the toys. Griz clears his throat.

MAGNETOOh, sorry my dear! My manners escape me! The hairy one you see before you is Grislor. Though we just call him Griz.

JESSEHello there.

Griz smiles with his sharp teeth. Jesse recoils, startled. Griz closes his mouth.

GRIZI know I’m ugly! But I can’t help it!

Griz runs away, crying. Jesse looks guilty and confused. Commander throws his hands up.

COMMANDERHere we go! He always does this! I’ll go and get him. Griz! Wait up!

Commander runs after Griz. Magneto smiles warmly.

MAGNETODon’t worry about him, my dear. (Beat)Now, I know you’ve met my number two, Stretch.

STRETCHOf course. Though I prefer not being called number two.

MAGNETOA small trifle of a detail. Now, is anyone missing tonight?

Hulk arrives with a needle and thread.

HULKHey brothers! Oh, and sister.

Hulk chuckles and hands the needle and thread to Stretch.

HULK (CONT'D)Here you go, brother!

Stretch threads the needle and works on Jesse's leg.

Hulk turns to Magneto.

HULK (CONT'D)Hey boss. Full count today. Z is out, though. He’ll be back tomorrow.

MAGNETOGood. Excellent work, thank you.

Magneto pats Hulk on the shoulder warmly. Jesse looks up at Hulk.

JESSEWho are you?

Hulk fists pumps.

HULKShe said it! You all heard!

Hulk and BA high five. Hulk points to his chest.

HULK (CONT'D)Who am I?

Commander and Magneto GROAN. Magneto massages his temples.

MAGNETOYou said it. I can’t believe you said it.

JESSESaid what? I do something wrong?

Stretch laughs, pulling up the final stitch. Jesse winces. Hulk jumps around, excited. BA and Hulk chest bump and double high five.

STRETCHNo, you didn’t do anything wrong. But you’ll see. And then you won’t do it again. Trust me.

Stretch laughs.

COMMANDEROh no.

HULKWho am I?

BAI pity the fool, who don’t know who ‘dis man is! This man is a rock! A legend!

Griz walks over. He shakes his head. Hulk paces around in a circle, gesturing to a seemingly invisible crowd.

GRIZYou see? This is why we don’t have friends. This is creepy. And I know a lot about creepy, believe me.

COMMANDERBoss, do we have to?

JESSEDo you have to what?

STRETCHYes. You know the rule, Commander.

COMMANDERI know, but...

MAGNETONow, what do we say about rules?

Commander and Griz SIGH, and look to the floor.

COMMANDERRules are made to follow.

MAGNETOThat’s correct. Now, be good chaps and participate, will you?

Commander sighs, walking off frame. Moments later and with great effort, he drags in a desk tape recorder, and jumps on the “PLAY” button.

“Real American” plays from the speaker.

Griz climbs up on top of their box with a flashlight, and shines it on the floor as a spotlight. Bored, he sighs.

GRIZJust look at him go. Oooooh. He’s a Real American alright...

Hulk flexes and poses. BA joins in, pointing at Hulk's muscles. Jesse watches, both amazed and confused.

HULKI am the Hulkster, little lady! And this is my partner, BA.

Commander laughs.

COMMANDERHa! You said partner!

Hulk blushes.

HULKI meant Tag partner!

BA points at Commander accusedly.

BAYeah, fool! You best not talk about me like that again, or I’ll pop your arms off and feed them to Mr. M!

Commander laughs.

MAGNETONow, now. Be good chaps and keep watch, will you?

Magneto's face turns gravely serious.

MAGNETO (CONT'D)Remember: he is out there...

HULKYou got it, boss. (Yelling) Mr. M has not met a tougher, more masculine pair of foes, in his entire life!

Magneto smirks. BA walks over to HULK. They perform an elaborate hand/body shake, then hug it out “like bros”. Jesse watches, and smiles.

BAMy man!

Commander SNICKERS, and Hulk flashes him a nasty look. Commander looks away. Hulk mimes "I'm watching you".

HULKCome on, brother. Say, tell me about that time you first fought Mr. M!

BANah, you first!

HULKI’ll go after.

BAOkay. It was dark, and I was...

BA’s voice trails away to a whisper, as the pair head to the closet door. Jesse looks at Stretch.

JESSEWho’s Mr. M?

Stretch takes Jesse's hand, and helps her to her feet. She stumbles, but Stretch holds her firmly.

STRETCHEasy now. Easy.

Jesse regains her balance and takes a few steps. Magneto smiles warmly.

MAGNETOYou’re a tough young lady. That’s good. We could use another hand here. (Beat)New arrivals don’t tend to last long in this place.

JESSEA hand? I’m no hand! I ain’t supposed to be here! I-I have to get back to Bonnie! She’s my owner! She has a green back pack with a flower on it! She was in here earlier. I have to go!

Jesse turns away. Stretch grabs her hand.

STRETCHWait! It’s not safe out there! Stay until morning. I beg you!

Jesse shakes her hand free, frustrated.

JESSELet me go! What in tarnation is goin’ on here? Just what is this place? Who is this “Mr. M”? Who are we hiding from and why can’t we fight it?

Magneto laughs.

MAGNETOYou’re full of fire, Jesse. But Stretch is right. You cannot go outside tonight. Stay away from any openings, and any vents.

Jesse's fire fades. She looks concerned.

JESSEWhy?

STRETCHMr. M comes out at night. Come on. I’ll show you.

MAGNETODo you really think that wise? She is barely fixed and acquainted.

JESSEFiddlesticks! I’m ready!Magneto, funny a name as that is, with all due respect: I have seen enough adventures in my time that nothin’ could scare me.

MAGNETOVery well. Griz, I don’t suppose you would turn around for me, would you?

Griz looks nervous, and slides over to the cardboard box, his back leaning against it.

GRIZWhy? We were just getting to know her.

MAGNETOGriz...

GRIZOkay, okay! But if she runs off, it’s on you!

He SIGHS and turns around.

He has claw marks in his fur and tufts of hair torn off. His butt shows. Jesse GASPS at the fur missing, then holds in a giggle when she sees his butt.

JESSEMy, what ever did that?

Griz turns around.

GRIZMR. M. AKA Mr. Muggles.AKA The Toy Eater.

COMMANDERWe may as well show her.

Magneto nods to Stretch.

STRETCHFur Drill?

JESSEYou mean fire Drill?

STRETCHNo, fur drill. Commander, Griz: get the lure, and meet me by the door.

Griz and Commander leave together.

GRIZI hate fur drills!

COMMANDERWell if you could run faster...

GRIZMr. M has four legs. It’s not a fair contest!

Magneto, Jesse and Stretch walk towards the closet door. Jesse looks around at the old, dusty shelves in the dim light cast from above.

She sees a vent with a box of books stacked in front of it. The vent is dented, and the screws are all gone.

JESSEWhat is this place?

MAGNETOThis, my dear child, is place where we see no playtime. A place where the wicked and sometimes plain unlucky toys- like yourself, are sent from time to time.

JESSEWicked toys? You mean bad toys?

MAGNETOQuite so. Badly behaved owners get their toys taken away.

Sometimes they end up in this place. (Beat)It just so happens that the toys they play with are often villainous.

Jesse looks at Magnetos cape and helmet.

JESSEHuh. Come to think of it, most of y'all have a sorta... “Evil” vibeabout the way you look. Except Stretch, o’ course.

Stretch laughs.

STRETCHThank you. I’ll take that as a compliment.

Magneto laughs.

MAGNETOLooks, my dear, can be deceiving. I was placed here so long ago, I can scarcely remember who my owner was. Nevertheless, I have dedicated my remaining existence to helping wayward toys find a community to be part of.

JESSEThat’s a real nice thing you are doing, Magneto.

Jesse looks at Stretch.

JESSE (CONT'D)How did you get put here?

STRETCHMe? My owner used me to tie up kids so he could take their lunch money.

MAGNETO (CONT'D)

JESSEOh.

There is silence for a moment.

JESSE (CONT'D)So why not escape and find your way to new owner?

STRETCHHa! If only it were that easy. Every time we try, we lose somebody. We’re getting picked off, one by one. We need a distraction to get out. He's too strong. Even for me.

MAGNETOStretch is right, I am afraid. We are running out of escape plans, and the toys to help with them. If we do not get out soon, all will be lost.

They arrive at the closet door. Magneto looks at BA and Hulk.

MAGNETO (CONT'D)Gents, this fine lady would like to know who Mr. M is.

Hulk laughs and high fives BA.

HULKRight on, brother!

Hulk and BA lean against the door jamb, being sure to stay clear of the gap underneath it. The door is mis-sized, and there is about a 1” gap.

There is masking tape mark one foot away from the door. On it, is written “Safe Zone.”

Griz and Commander arrive carrying a plastic pole with a small fuzzy mouse tied to it. Griz looks at Magneto.

Stretch moves Jesse behind the green tape line.

STRETCHStand here. And no matter what happens, don’t go past that line, okay?

JESSEWhat happens if I do?

Griz turns around. We see his shredded butt.

GRIZThis.

Jesse looks less brave now, as she stands by the line. Commander and Griz wrangle the mouse lure under the door gap.

INT. MRS. MAVEN’S OFFICE - NIGHT37 37

We see the mouse lure wiggle in the dark office. We pan around the room to see a litter tray, and a small bed. They are empty.

A shadow rushes quickly across our field of vision. We see Griz, from a distance, peeking under the door.

GRIZ(Whispering)I can’t see him!

A feline GROWL can be heard in the darkness.


Jesse hears the growl, her eyes widen in fear. She gasps. Silence follows. Griz is bent over, looking under the door. His butt is showing to Commander.

COMMANDERYou can at least try to pretend you hate showing your butt. It’s embarrassing!

Griz jiggles his butt in front of Commander, mockingly.

GRIZ(Whispering)You don’t like it? Fine! You get closer!

COMMANDER(Whispering)No way! I can see what he can do to butts, thank you very much!

STRETCH(Whispering)You two. Keep it down!

Silence outside. No sign of movement. Griz sighs in relief, looking back at Stretch.

GRIZWell maybe he’s out catching real mi-

There is a loud SNARL, and a fuzzy white arm reaches under the door, claws out. It slashes at Griz who freezes in terror, screaming. The claws miss him by millimeters.

Jesse jumps back, terrified. She stumbles, and Stretch catches her.

The fuzzy white arm vanishes, and a fading SNARL is heard before silence. Jesse looks under the door gap to see no trace of an animal. Griz is still frozen in place.

Magneto touches Griz on the shoulder tenderly.

MAGNETOIt’s okay, Griz. He’s gone.

Griz opens one eye and looks around. The coast is clear. He falls over, exhausted. Magneto looks at Commander and then down at Griz.

MAGNETO (CONT'D)You two: watch the vent. You know what he can do. BA and Hulk, you’re on door duty as usual. Come sun up, he’ll be sleeping and we will have our chance.

JESSEHow are we going to get out of here with that thing out there?

Magneto tuns to Jesse, and holds her shoulder gently.

MAGNETOI assure you, measures have been taken to get you home. But we will need your help. Now, I suggest that you get some rest. You’re going to need it to get out of this place.

STRETCHCome on. There is a nice set of blankets over here.

MAGNETOI’ll watch from above as usual.

Stretch leads Jesse away with him.

EXT. SUBURBAN STREET - NIGHT39 39

It’s cold, and it’s quiet. A light snow falls, glimmering in the street lamps. A dark blue van sits motionless across from Bonnie's house. We see silhouettes inside.

INT. VAN - NIGHT40 40

Harry is in the drivers seat. Marv sits shotgun, noisily eating a packet of red pistachios. Harry takes a few breaths into his hands to warm himself. He shivers.

MARVHarry, can we have the heat on?

HARRYNo, you idiot! They’ll see us. And stop eatin’ like ‘dat. You’re making me nauseous.’

Marv looks at Harry. His face is all red.

MARVLike what? I’m eating nuts.

Harry angrily flops down the passenger visor mirror.

HARRYLook at your face. Clean yourself up! What are we now? The “Red bandits?”

MARVNo, that’s a silly name, Harry.

Harry scoffs irritably.

HARRYOh? And why’s dat?

Marv chuckles, wiping his face with spittle as he looks in the mirror.

MARVCus’ we’d get caught red-handed! Get it?

Marv laughs. Harry hits him on the nose. Marv YELPS.

HARRYThere! Wipe that off!

They sit in silence and look across the street. We can see a light in the living room of BONNIE’S house. Her MOM is pacing the room. HARRY grabs a laser mic, and hands it to MARV.

HARRY (CONT'D)Here. Open the window. We’re on.

Harry looks at his watch. It reads 8:15.

HARRY (CONT'D)Regular as clockwork. Puts the kid to bed, then calls her folks.

Marv shivers as he holds the mic out of the window. Harry puts on headphones.

MARVWhy can’t I listen, and you hold the mic?

Harry hits Marv on the back of the head.

HARRYBecause my hands aren’t covered in red ink, you idiot! That’s why! Now pipe down! She’s talking.

MOM(IN HEADPHONES)I don’t know what to do. She’s so upset.

INT. BONNIE’S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT41 41

Mom is pacing the living room, she is agitated.

MOMIt was an accident. She didn’t mean to burn the principal.

Harry snickers when he hears, this. Marv looks around to him, smiling.

MARVWhat? What happened?

HARRYThe kid burned the principal with coffee!

Marv laughs, and the microphone moves out of aim.

HARRY (CONT'D)Okay, okay. Keep aiming. I can’t hear nothin’.

Marv re-aims the mic. We see Mom's pacing silhouette in the window.


MOMI talked to the principal.(Beat)Mrs. Maven.(Beat)Yes, the same Mrs. Maven who taught me. She has Bonnie’s toy in her office.(Beat)What kind of principal has a cat in her office? It’s unsanitary!

She SIGHS.

MOM (CONT'D)Can we come up tomorrow after school?(Beat)I know. She is so upset.

(MORE)

I think she could use some of your special hot cocoa...(Beat)Yes. And me too.

Mom laughs, sitting down on a couch. Nestled in the Christmas Tree in the room, a baby monitor transmitter flashes.

MOM (CONT'D)Yes, it will be nice to see you, too.

INT. BONNIE’S CLOSET - NIGHT44 44

With the volume on low, Buzz and Woody listen in.

MOM’S VOICE(OVER SPEAKER)Great! Well we’ll pack up tomorrow and drive up.

Buzz shakes head in disbelief.

BUZZJesse has been kidnapped!


Harry fists pumps and chuckles. Marv looks at Harry.

MARVGood news?

Harry frowns, shaking his head.

HARRYNo. I’m happy because of bad news. Of course it’s good news, you idiot! Empty house tomorrow night.

MOM (CONT'D)

Marv high fives Harry. Harry holds the headphones and gestures for Marv to be quiet.

MOM’S VOICE(IN HEADPHONES)I spoke to the police. They said the chances of it happening again the next day in the same are low. Plus they’ll be patrolling the area.PausesI love you, too. See you tomorrow.

The call ends. Harry takes off the headphones and starts the van. Harry looks at the house.

HARRYSleep tight.

Harry chuckles, puts the van in drive, and slowly pulls ahead.

EXT. VAN - NIGHT46 46

We see the van pull away. Marv leans his head out of the window, laughing.

MARVYeah... Don’t let the bed bugs bite!

We hear a YELP as the van leaves.

MARV (CONT'D)Why do you always gotta’ hit me, Harry?

HARRY(VOICE FADING)Why do always gotta be an idiot?! Huh? Answer me that!

We pan back to the house as snow falls.

Jesse paces back and forth in front of Stretch, who is relaxing with his feet up in a thick folded blanket. He is blowing a small feather in the air repeatedly, and watching it fall.

JESSEI have to get home! Bonnie! She needs me! I’m her favorite. She said so! I have to find her!

Stretch sighs.

STRETCHI’m sure she’s fine. She can last the night. Relax. Nothing else to do but wait. Put your feet up.

Jesse shakes her head, still pacing.

JESSEAnd Buzz! He’ll be worried sick!

This perks his attention. He tries to hide jealousy.

STRETCHBuzz? Who’s Buzz?

Jesse turns to him.

JESSEMy... Friend. Buzz Lightyear. You know him?

Stretch laughs.

STRETCHI have seen a Buzz Lightyear before, of course! The whole galaxy knows about Buzz Lightyear!

Jesse perks up when she hears this.

JESSEReally?

STRETCHYes! Our friend Z is an old acquaintance of his.

JESSEZ? I-I didn’t meet Z.

Stretch blows the weather and watches it.

STRETCHHe doesn’t like company. He’s always on patrol. He and Mr. M have... let’s say... unfinished business.

JESSEWhat happened?

STRETCHYou can ask him yourself tomorrow.

JESSEWhy not now? Where is he?

STRETCHMagneto sent him out to get help.

JESSEOh.

STRETCHSo put your feet up and wait for tomorrow.

Stretch pats the blanket next to him. Jesse, hesitant, sits down. Stretch blows the feather again. Jesse watches it dance in the air.

STRETCH (CONT'D)So... What about this Buzz character? Are you and him an item?

Jesse puts her hand on her hip, frowning.

STRETCH (CONT'D)I’m just asking, to see if I have a shot. You’re a beautiful cowgirl, in case you haven’t noticed.

Jesse is flustered, but blushing.

JESSEWhat if we were?

STRETCHHa! What does that little “astronut” have that I don’t?

Stretch stands up on the blanket, and does an elaborate show of his muscles, tying his arms and legs in various knots.

Stretch slithers around Jesse.

STRETCH (CONT'D)My body is honed to perfection. Is he this flexible, Jesse? I have no joints, you know...

Jesse pulls herself from his grip, and stands up.

JESSEGet your hands off me!

STRETCHOr what? Buzz is going to melt me with his scary arm laser? Ha! Mr. M will eat him like the last one!

Stretch chuckles.

JESSEHe’s not like any other Buzz! He’s smart, and he’s kind, and he is a gentleman, for one thing! And he speaks Spanish!

Stretch sighs disinterestedly, blowing the feather with his hands nestled behind his head.

STRETCHWhatever. Find your own place to crash. Don’t come crying to me if Mr. M finds you.

Jesse walks off, moping. She sits up against the cardboard box marked “CONFISCATED” and rests her sad head in her arms.

INT. BONNIE’S HOUSE - KITCHEN - DAY48 48

It is morning. A sad Bonnie eats cereal. She looks at the cereal box where Jesse would sit, and sighs. Mom watches her, and kisses her on the head.

MOMDon’t worry honey. We’ll get her back, soon.

Bonnie is silent. Mom tussles her hair.

MOM (CONT'D)We’re heading to grandma’s today after school. Then next week, I’ll go down and talk to Mrs. Maven myself, okay?

Bonnie smiles, and Mom hugs her.


Buzz stands by an open window in Bonnie's room. He is wearing a home-made plastic bag parachute. It is taped to his butt. Woody and Rex stand nearby.

Rex bites off a piece of tape and hands it to Woody, who attaches it to Buzz. Buzz looks at the rig dubiously, tugging at the makeshift chute.

BUZZAre you sure this will work?

Woody laughs nervously.

WOODYOf course, Buzz! It should work.

BUZZThat’s not what I asked, Woody.

REXIf it doesn’t work, use your wings!

Buzz looks at Rex, straight-faced.

BUZZGood idea, Rex.

WOODYWe are out of options, Buzz. This is the only way you’ll get down. Then, you sneak aboard the bus and find out where Jesse is.

Buzz leans over the edge and looks down.

WOODY (CONT'D)On the count of three?

BUZZOkay.

WOODYOne.

Buzz closes his eyes and steps out on the ledge. Rex closes his eyes.

REXI can’t watch!

WOODYTwo...

BUZZTo infinity... And beyond!

WOODYThree!

Buzz grabs the side of the window in a panic, his legs buckling. Woody rolls his eyes, sighing.

WOODY (CONT'D)Buzz! Get off that ledge and jump out of that window!

BUZZIt’s just... I’m not convinced with the structural integrity of this setup, Woody.

WOODYUh-huh. Nothing to do with being scared, I suppose?

BUZZNo. It’s not that.

WOODYGood. What’s the worst that can happen? You’re made of plastic, Buzz! Stop being such a Mrs. Nesbitt.

Buzz glares at Woody.

REXWho is Mrs. Nesbitt?

WOODYInside joke, Rex. Now, on three?

Buzz nods.

BUZZOkay, on three.

Buzz closes his eyes, and steps onto the ledge once more. CLICK! Buzz pops his visor closed.

WOODYOne... Two...

Woody creeps up behind Buzz. Rex covers his eyes once more. Potato Head approaches from a distance.

BUZZYou know, Woody I’m beginning to think that this is a huge-

WOODYThree!

Woody pushes Buzz. He topples out of the window. Potato Head gasps. Buzz screams.


The bags work, puffing with air. Still screaming with his eyes closed, Buzz falls gently. Halfway down, he opens his eyes and realizes how silly he looks. Buzz lands softly in snowy bushes below.

Rex yells down at him from above.

REXWay to go, Buzz!


Woody looks down at Buzz and gives him the thumbs up. Buzz signals back. Woody smiles.

WOODYWhat do you know? It worked.

Potato Head marches over to Woody.

MR. POTATO HEADMurderer!

Woody, surprised looks over.

WOODYOh no.

Woody puts his arms out disarmingly.

WOODY (CONT'D)It’s not what it looks like!

MR. POTATO HEADWhat is it with you? I caught you red-handed, pushing Buzz out of the window, and that’s all you can say? Let me guess... it was an accident!

WOODYNo! I meant to do it this time!

POTATO HEADWhat?

Woody laughs nervously.

WOODYIt’s part of a plan to get Jesse.(Beat) She’s missing!

Potato Head advances, poking Woody closer to the window edge. Woody looks back- inches away from the edge.

POTATO HEADThis might not come as a shock to you, but I don’t believe you, Woody!

Rex steps in.

REXIt’s true! Leave him alone!

MR. POTATO HEADPipe down, scaly! This isn’t your business.

Rex looks down for a moment, then takes a deep breath, then roars loudly.

Potato Head's back flap opens, and pieces spill out. His eyes, nose, mouth and ears blast off. Woody covers his ears and winces. Potato Head falls over. The toys in the room all freeze in terror, and look up.

Rex stands over Potato Head.

REXNow look here, Mr! You throw your weight around too much! You’d best start to be nice to Woody. He has watched over us for years! He’s saved our hides numerous times, and still you don’t trust him?

Potato Head's eyes are wide in shock on the bed top. His mouth babbles, and his arms flail.

REX (CONT'D)Now there’s a lot going on that’s bigger than you, so behave yourself, play nice and help out for once! Or I’ll pay you a visit you will not forget.

Rex leans in to one of Potato Head's ears and SNORTS a puff of air. The ear jumps.

REX (CONT'D)Do you understand?

Potato Head's body nods. Rex smiles, returning to normal suddenly.

REX (CONT'D)Great! Now let’s get you back together! Woody, can you lend a hand?

Woody nods, still not sure what to make of it all.

WOODYSure thing, Rex.

They reassemble Potato Head. Dazed, Potato Head walks away.

WOODY (CONT'D)That was... pretty amazing, Rex. Thank you.

Woody pats Rex on the back. His tail wags.

REXDon’t mention it. You helped us out- even when we didn’t deserve it.(Beat) Plus, he can be a real bully sometimes.

Woody chuckles.

WOODYRemind me to always be on your good side, Rex.


Buzz waits in the bushes. The pit bull next door, PATCHES, spots Buzz and barks cheerfully, scratching at the fence.

BUZZNot now, Patches! Shhhh!

Buzz dives into snow as cover. Patches eventually loses interest and WHINES, turning away.

Melting snow fogs his visor. He opens it and shakes snow off like a dog. A school bus approaches, and the front door opens. Bonnie steps out, and Buzz ducks down.


POV

We see Buzz through the eyes of the Unknown. He approaches Buzz slowly. The snow CRUNCHES beneath him, giving away his position.

69.

Exit POV

Buzz turns and GASPS. Before him is a beaten, dirty, scarred and one-armed Zurg action figure.

NOTE: The UNKNOWN is now known as ZURG, (aka “Z”).

They stare at each other for a few seconds. Zurg extends his left arm for a handshake. Buzz somersaults back, sending snow flying.

But on landing, Buzz hits a patch of ice and slips over onto his back. Zurg approaches, standing over him.

In the background, we see Bonnie out of focus as she hugs her Mom goodbye, then heads out to the school bus.

Zurg turns and watches Bonnie. Buzz dives at Zurg. With almost no effort, Zurg easily counters Buzz and flips him over. Buzz lands hard in the snow, stunned.

Buzz shakes it off and gets up, running at Zurg once more. Buzz somersaults over Zurg acrobatically. Zurg watches, taking a defensive stance.

He blocks Buzz at every turn as Buzz strikes with skilled combos. As they fight, Zurg speaks.

ZURGI understand your position, but we do not have time for this, Buzz Lightyear! Time is of the essence!

Zurg flips Buzz over onto his back again, and extends his hand- more forcefully this time. Buzz flinches. He opens one eye and looks at Zurg's hand.

ZURG (CONT'D)Come with me if you want her to live.

Buzz, confused, takes Zurg's hand and is helped onto his feet. Zurg takes point, peering through the bushes. Bonnie is stepping onto the bus.

70.

ZURG (CONT'D)Blast! It seems the yellow vessel of conveyance with which the young girl in question is transported to her educational facility in, is almost ready to depart.

Buzz raises an eyebrow and points to the school bus.

BUZZYou mean the bus is leaving?

ZURGPrecisely! We must make haste! Buzz Lightyear, climb aboard the undercarriage!

BUZZHow can I trust you?

ZURGThere is no time for this. I know where your cowgirl is!

BUZZJesse? What have you done with her?

Zurg points to the bus.

ZURGAll will be explained! Now be silent and board that vessel!

Buzz nods, still in disbelief, but heads out. He spies a red ball buried in snow nearby. With effort, he frees it up and kicks it. He runs behind it, using it as cover. He looks back to Zurg.

BUZZWhat about you?

Zurg waves Buzz onward.

71.

ZURGI shall stall them. Make haste, Buzz Lightyear!

Buzz shakes his head, running toward the bus.

BUZZI think it’s going to be one of those days.

Buzz dives into a snow pile five feet from the bus. The ball rolls and stops in the snow beside him.

From above, we see a shot of Buzz as he cuts a meandering trail in the snow pile. CLANG! He walks into a signpost.

BUZZ (CONT'D)Ow!

In the background, we hear the bus door closing and the DRIVER talking.

DRIVERGood Morning Bonnie!

We see Bonnie through sand/salt covered windows as she heads to a seat. Buzz runs and climbs aboard the rear right corner of the bus, and swings underneath it.

EXT. BUS UNDERCARRIAGE - DAY54 54

BUZZ lands safely under the bus. He waits for Zurg.

BUZZCome on, come on...

The bus brakes release and it RUMBLES to life.

72.

EXT. SUBURBAN STREET - DAY55 55

We follow Zurg as he wheels up the empty snowy street- deftly using trash cans, snow and signposts as cover. He gets to the red ball.

INT. KITCHEN OF HOUSE OVERLOOKING THE STREET - DAY56 56

A groggy MAN, (30's) sits at a breakfast bar, drinking coffee. Looking out the window, he sees the red ball as it moves up the street on its own. He blinks, then looks at his coffee cup.

EXT. SUBURBAN STREET - DAY57 57

We see a wide shot of a red ball rolling up the street.

Zurg looks at a signpost, then the bus. He then punches the ball with all his might. He hurries towards the bus.

We follow the ball as it flies through the air. BING! It ricochets off the sign post.


The Driver nods his head merrily to “Hakuna Matata” on the radio. The red ball SMACKS against the window, and the Driver stamps on the brake in a panic, wide-eyed.

The kids on the bus giggle and scream as the bus stops. The Driver watches the ball as it bounces away. The Driver looks left and right, then proceeds ahead.

EXT. BUS UNDERCARRIAGE - DAY59 59

Zurg swings into view as the bus rumbles onward. Now safely aboard, Zurg raises his left arm again.

ZURGAgent Z, at your service.

Buzz takes his hand and shakes it.

BUZZBuzz.

NOTE: Every time ZURG says “Destroy”, he yells it and clenches his fist. He delivers his lines in an evil fashion, no matter what he is saying. His laugh is a deep, long and evil sounding chuckle.

ZURGI am fully aware of you, Buzz Lightyear. I have seen many of your kind throughout my travels. Though I ashamed to say it now, I have destroyed every one I have met.

Buzz moves away from Zurg cautiously. Zurg laughs.

ZURG (CONT'D)Fear not, chum! Those days are long past! I yearn only to help others until I am either taken into ownership or destroyed.

Buzz stops, but still looks uneasy.

BUZZVery well, Zurg. Truce?

Buzz holds his hand out. Zurg shakes it firmly.

ZURGThe peace bond is made! And please, do not refer to me by that name, Buzz Lightyear. That name is no longer me. That is to say, I am no longer my former self. Call me Z!

BUZZSorry.(Beat)

Z. And just call me Buzz by the way.

ZURGYes, Buzz Lightyear. I shall refer to you as Buzz Lightyear. For that is who you are currently, is it not?

Zurg laughs deeply. Zurg raises his hand upward, clenching the air. Buzz stares awkwardly. Zurg stops.

ZURG (CONT'D)Sorry about that. I get out of hand sometimes.

BUZZUh... No problem.

Zurg pats Buzz on the shoulder.

ZURGCome now, you must have some questions for me!

Buzz takes a breath. Zurg cuts him off, raising his finger.

ZURG (CONT'D)Jesse is quite safe at the educational facility, with which we shall aid her and yourself to return home.

Buzz opens his mouth to speak.

ZURG (CONT'D)It was only natural that if I followed the owner known as Bonnie home, I would happen upon the residence.

Buzz says nothing for a moment, thinking. He opens his mouth. Zurg raises his finger.

BUZZ (CONT'D)

ZURG (CONT'D)How did I know you would be there to rescue her? I didn’t. It was simply by chance. It can be easily concluded therefore, that you, Buzz Lightyear, are her other half.

Buzz looks amazed.

ZURG (CONT'D)It is simply a matter of deductive reasoning. Were I in the same situation as yourself, I would be the one where you are now.

They sit in silence for a moment, holding onto the bus’ frame. Buzz opens his mouth.

ZURG (CONT'D)How do you know you can trust me? That question is asked frequently. You do not. Other than the fact that I risked my life to come here. This trial alone should be enough to gain your trust.

BUZZVery well. But if I find out you are trying to trick me...

ZURGIf I am found to be mistrustful, I will destroy myself. Now, do you have any more questions? I am partaking much enjoyment from this game!

Zurg chuckles again, the stops abruptly.

ZURG (CONT'D)Sorry.

Buzz looks at Zurg's scars, his tattered cloak and missing arm.

ZURG (CONT'D)This is an ongoing battle with my nemesis.

Zurg clenches his fist.

ZURG (CONT'D)Mr. M did this to me! And I, Buzz Lightyear, will not rest until I have had my vengeance!

BUZZMr M?

ZURGI shall tell you the tale of my woes, for the journey is long and we have time to spare.


It is recess. Mrs. Maven sits at her desk, sipping coffee and reading paperwork. MR. M sits on her lap, purring.

Children can be seen playing in snow from her office window. We see Bonnie, moping and sitting down with Ellie on a bench.

Mrs. Maven spots a folded piece of paper on her desk. She opens it.

In purple crayon, it reads:

“Deer Mrs. Maven, Im sorry you got burned by the cofee It was an axe a dent. From, Bonnie.”

Mrs. Maven smiles warmly when she reads this note. She puts Mr. M down. She walks to the closet. Mr. M follows, GROWLING.

INT. MRS. MAVEN’S CLOSET - DAY61 61

Turning the light on, Mrs. Maven picks up Jesse. Mr. M searches the closet, making his way to the box of toys. He paws at it, MEWING.

Mrs. Maven walks over and picks Mr. M up. She kisses him. He YOWLS.

MRS. MAVENCome on, you. There’s no food in there.

Mrs. Maven turns out the light, and they leave the closet.


Mrs. Maven sets Jesse on her desk, and Mr M. hops up, nibbling at her boot. Mrs. Maven shoos him down.

MRS. MAVENBad kitty! She doesn’t belong to you!

Mr. M GROWLS and jumps down, before heading to his bed grumpily. Mr. M stares at Jesse's leg as it dangles over the desk. Mrs. Maven sits back down. There is a KNOCK at her door.

MRS. MAVEN (CONT'D)Come in.

The door opens and a young female ASSISTANT walks in.

MRS. MAVEN (CONT'D)Is the Superintendant here?

ASSISTANTYes, Ma’am.

Mrs. Maven opens a small mirror and checks her teeth for food, then adjusts her hair.

MRS. MAVENHow do I look?

ASSISTANTNot a day over 65.

Mrs. Maven glares at the Assistant, who gulps.

MRS. MAVENI’m 63.

ASSISTANTI’m so sor-

MRS. MAVENNever mind! Let’s go. We don’t want to keep him waiting, do we?

Mrs. Maven gets up from her desk and heads to the door. Mr. M looks at Jesse hungrily. Mrs. Maven turns around quickly. Mr. M pretends to sleep. Mrs. Maven glares at the cat, then reenters the room.

MRS. MAVEN (CONT'D)One moment...

Mrs. Maven picks Jesse up and puts her in a leather satchel hanging on a door hook. She stares at Mr. M- who is still pretending to be asleep. Finally, she closes the door. We can hear her talking as the two walk away.

MRS. MAVEN (CONT'D)A good mouser or not, sometimes I think that cat is more mischievous than all of the children in this place...

With the coast clear, Mr. M opens his eyes.

Bonnie sits with Ellie as they ride home. Bonnie is more cheerful now.

ELLIEDid you leave her the note?

BONNIEUh-huh. I hope she gets it!

ELLIEMe too.

The bus stops outside Jenna's house, and the doors open. Jenna gets up from her seat, and walks by Bonnie and Ellie. Jenna turns to Bonnie, teary eyed.

JENNAI’m sorry I got your dolly taken away. I-I just wanted to look at her, is all. And then I got scared and ran.

Jenna starts to cry. Bonnie reaches out and holds Jenna's hand.

BONNIEDon’t cry... (Beat)The teacher says that if I’m good, I’ll get her back.

Jenna SNIFFS. Bonnie smiles reassuringly. Ellie reaches her hand out. The bus Driver watches them in the mirror and smiles warmly. He closes the doors.

ELLIEHi. I’m Ellie.

BONNIEAnd I’m Bonnie.

Jenna laughs.

JENNAI’m Jenna. Would-would you like to be friends?

Bonnie and Ellie look at each other for a moment. Jenna looks anxious. Bonnie and Ellie giggle.

BONNIEYes!

Jenna laughs.

ELLIEWhy don’t you bring in one of your toys so we can play together next week?

Jenna looks down, ashamed.

JENNAMy Mommy doesn’t have much money, so I don’t have any toys.

ELLIEOh. I’m sorry.

Jenna looks up.

JENNABut I like to draw pictures!

Bonnie laughs.

BONNIEThat’s great! Us too! Bring some in Monday and we can draw together!

Jenna giggles.

JENNAOkay! See you!

Jenna skips off the bus and into her house. The Driver smiles as he watches her leave. Jenna skips up the driveway into her house.

EXT. SCHOOL - NIGHT64 64

We see a snow pile. Buzz pops his head out, his suit glowing in the dark. Shaking off snow, he looks around an empty school ground, but sees no sign of people.

BUZZ(Whispering)The coast is clear!

Zurg pops out next to him. He shakes snow off himself like a dog, covering Buzz. Buzz looks unimpressed.

BUZZ (CONT'D)Which room is she in?

Zurg thrusts his finger out, pointing at Mrs. Maven's window.

ZURGOur base of operations is in that sector. The only access is through that thermal exhaust port.

Zurg points to a steaming vent close to the entrance. They run for it. Zurg opens it carefully, whilst Buzz keeps watch.

It's open. Zurg beckons Buzz inside, then follows. He replaces the grill behind him.

EXT. BONNIE’S DRIVEWAY - NIGHT65 65

Mom loads two suitcases into the back of a red sedan. Bonnie is strapped into her booster seat, humming to herself. Dad is drumming to the radio on the steering wheel.

Mom locks the door and checks the handle. She leans into Bonnie.

MOMIs everybody here?

Bonnie is holding Buttercup in her hands.

BONNIEYep!

DADYep!

MOMReady to go to grandma’s house?

BONNIEYeah!

Mom closes the passenger door, and climbs into the car. Dad pulls out of the driveway, and then up the road.


Woody watches the car leave, and then scrambles to the edge of the bed.

WOODYHey everyone! They're gone!

Toys spring to life. Slinky Dog untwists himself. Potato Head re-arranges his face, and Hamm wipes off more black marker on his eye brows. Rex rolls Trixie off her back with his head. She giggles.

TRIXIEStop! Stop! I’m ticklish!

REXOh really?

Rex leans in to tickle her belly, but can’t reach. Trixie waits, watching Rex as he tries to reach.

REX (CONT'D)Curse these tiny arms of mine!

Trixie laughs, then rights herself. She bumps Rex affectionately, and he blushes.

Woody walks over to the edge of the bed and jumps down. He tries picking up an echo microphone, but struggles with it. Potato Head walks over.

MR. POTATO HEADHey there. Need a hand?

Woody looks surprised, letting go of the microphone.

WOODYYeah, actually.

Potato Head helps, and they carefully place it up on a building block setup nearby. It is now at chest level to Woody.

WOODY (CONT'D)Thanks.

MR. POTATO HEADListen, Woody. I just wanted to say that-

WOODYI know. It’s okay.

MR. POTATO HEADThis plan of yours. I uh... I think it’s good. And even though I know I won’t enjoy it, I’m gonna’ do my part.

Woody shakes Potato Head's hand.

WOODYGlad to have you on the team. Would you mind rounding up everyone? I just want to make sure we’re prepared.

MR. POTATO HEADYou got it.

Potato Head yells. Woody grimaces.

MR. POTATO HEAD (CONT'D)Hey! Everybody!

The toys in the room freeze, and look at Potato Head.

MR. POTATO HEAD (CONT'D)Woody’s got somethin’ to say! Now get over here!

All toys congregate around Woody and Potato Head. Woody takes his hat off, coughs and taps the echo microphone.

WOODYTest... test... Hello everyone.

The toys are silent.

WOODY (CONT'D)Tonight is going to be-

The microphone echoes, but barely works.

HAMMTurn it up, for cryin’ out loud!

WOODYThere’s only one setting, so I guess you’ll just have to be quiet, and listen, won’t you?

Hamm is silent, but mocks Woody as he talks. Woody glares at him, and Hamm looks away, whistling.

WOODY (CONT'D)As I was saying... Tonight is a scary night for all of us. (Beat)Jesse is gone, and Buzz is out finding her. Including Buttercup, we’re three toys down. Until they get back, it’s up to us to defend this house.

The toys stir and chatter amongst themselves. Woody glances at all of the toys in front of him, waiting for them to fall silent.

WOODY (CONT'D)I know you all have seen some crazy things, but this... this is something we’ve never faced before. Some of you may get stepped on, broken or even taken.

Shocked, the toys chatter, then fall silent after a spell. Woody puts on his hat.

WOODY (CONT'D)I may not be a real sheriff, but I’m a toy sheriff- if there ever was such a thing. Stealing is wrong. And they won't take any of Bonnie's stuff. Not on my watch.

Woody pounds his knuckle into his hand.

WOODY (CONT'D)Stick to the plan, stay in your groups and most of all, stay out of sight. Now let’s show them what we’re made of!

The toys cheer, and break off into groups. Slinky goes with Hamm. Mr. Pricklepants bows and follows Barbie and Ken. Potato Head heads off with Mrs. Potato Head, the Peas in a Pod and the LGM.

MR. POTATO HEADCome on, let’s get you kids some place safe.

Rex and Trixie pair together. Soon the room is empty- except Woody and Dolly. She walks over to Woody.

DOLLYYou’re quite the motivational speaker, Sheriff Woody.

She pokes his badge. Woody chuckles nervously, blushing.

WOODYYeah, well I...

Dolly kisses him on the cheek, and walks away.

DOLLYThat was for luck. You still owe me that walk later, remember?

Woody nods, smiling goofily and rubbing the back of his neck. He says nothing. Dolly leaves. Woody tweaks his hat, putting it on his head.

WOODYOkay, Sheriff. Time to get to work.

INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT67 67

Rex and Trixie have placed masking tape on a flyswatter, and are putting thumb tacks into it.

INT. BONNIE’S HOUSE - BATHROOM - NIGHT68 68

Hamm and Slinky are filling water balloons in the bathroom. Once they are full, they toss them onto BULLSEYE. He carries them out.

INT. BONNIE’S HOUSE - BEDROOM - NIGHT69 69

CHUCKLES and Woody work together to aim and throw the water balloons out the window, aiming for the front step. They throw several, and water splashes and freezes on the front steps. They high five.

INT. BONNIE’S HOUSE - KITCHEN - NIGHT70 70

On the counter top, Mr. Pricklepants, Dolly, Ken and Barbie work together to open a packet of fly paper. Ken trips, and lands face down on the paper. Barbie gasps. She pulls Ken with all her might. Nothing.

With all three of them tugging, he tears out of his clothes, and pops out naked. Dolly, Mr. Pricklepants and Barbie giggle. Realizing he is naked, Ken blushes, covers himself and side steps out of the frame.


Using duct tape, Woody and Chuckles secure mouse traps to the window ledge, then arm them carefully.

INT. BONNIES’ HOUSE - HALLWAY - NIGHT72 72

Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head are carrying a garden rake, and place it spike side up at the end of the hallway- near the kitchen entrance. Mrs. Potato Head wipes her brow.

MRS. POTATO HEADI’m getting too old for this!

Mr. Potato Head takes her in his arms, she giggles. He smiles.

MR. POTATO HEADYeah, but you look the same as youalways did. Not a wrinkle.

She blushes and giggles.

INT. BONNIE'S HOUSE - UPSTAIRS HALLWAY - NIGHT73 73

Slinky and Hamm are at the top of the stairs pouring detergent onto the hardwood floor.

A slick clear puddle oozes down the hallway. Hamm gives Slinky a squeegee, and holds his legs.

Slinky springs back and forth in different directions. He slides up and down the hallway, spreading detergent around.

INT. BONNIE'S HOUSE - KITCHEN - NIGHT74 74

Rex and Trixie carefully pour extra hot sauce into a small squirt gun. It splashes, and lands in Rex's mouth. He screams and smoke comes out of his mouth.

In panic, Rex dives into the sink. Trixie turns on the faucet and Rex sticks his tongue out. He gives Trixie a thumbs up.

REXShanks!

INT. BONNIE'S HOUSE - MOM’S BEDROOM CLOSET - NIGHT75 75

Woody climbs the cluttered closet to the top shelf. Chuckles is below, watching. Woody tugs on a strap, and a large photographer’s camera comes into view. The cover is on.

WOODYGot it!

Looking at it, he accidentally pushes the button and the flash goes off.

It blinds him, and he falls off the shelf screaming with a thud. He shakes his head. He looks up. The camera is slides off.

WOODY (CONT'D)Oh no.

The camera falls onto Woody, pinning him. He wheezes under its weight. Chuckles helps him pull it off. Woody is stunned. Chuckles helps him up. Woody stumbles, seeing stars.

WOODY (CONT'D)I’m fine. I’m okay!

He collapses.


We hear the slowly fading sound of the whistling Custodian as he walks past the door. Once there is silence, Jesse pops her head out of the satchel and looks around.

Looking through her point of view, there is no sign of MR. M. His basket is empty. The screen saver on Mrs. Maven's computer is the only source of light.

JESSE(Whispering)Stretch! Magneto! Guys?

Jesse looks to the closet. The light clicks on, and we hear muffled speech by the door.

INT. MRS. MAVEN’S CLOSET - NIGHT77 77

Magneto, Stretch, Commander, BA, Hulk and Griz are standing by the door behind the safe zone. We can hear Jesse whispering.

JESSE(O.C)Pssssst! Guys!

Magneto talks under the door.


We see Magneto's shadow.

MAGNETO(O.C)Stay where you are, child! We are formulating a plan.

(MORE)

But we must do it quietly, as you-know-who can hear everything. Do you understand me, Jesse?

JESSEUh-huh. I guess.

MAGNETO(O.C)Now, guessing by the sound of you, are you in the satchel on the door?

JESSEYes.

MAGNETO(O.C)Very well. Sit tight. And stay quiet.


Magneto stands back up.

STRETCHIt looks like this could be our chance!

COMMANDEROur chance for what?

STRETCHTo escape!

Griz sighs.

GRIZThis again? Tell that to Venom. He's gone!

Magneto groans, rubbing his temple. He points to the door.

MAGNETOThis is not the time to discuss this, Stretch! She is in danger!

MAGNETO(O.C) (CONT'D)

STRETCHShe is safe up there. Why not use this as an opportunity to escape?

COMMANDERHa! With that thing running around? You can count me out!

STRETCHWhy don’t we just count you out of everything? Hmph... You’re always such a baby.

COMMANDERAm not!

Commander runs at Stretch, who easily holds him back one- handed. Commander swings his arms at Stretch- they come short of his midsection, swishing the air.

STRETCHHa! You are puny. You lack muscle!

Stretch picks up Commander by the ankle with one arm and dangles him upside down, laughing. BA chuckles. Hulk steps in.

HULKBrothers! Brothers! Our lady friend is out there! Mr. M can strike at any time! That satchel ain’t no place for lady, am I right brother?

Hulk looks at BA, who nods.

BAYeah. You right. So how we goin’ to get her down?

Hulk smirks, and motions for everyone to come closer.

HULKGather up brothers, I got us a plan...

INT. VENTILATION DUCTS - SCHOOL - NIGHT80 80

Zurg and Buzz sprint through the ducts. BUZZ is casting a green glow that lights their way.

BUZZSo he could be anywhere?

ZURGPrecisely!

The vent shaft rumbles and echoes around them.

BUZZAs in, he could be in these vents, following us?

ZURGAll the more reason to make haste. Come! We are almost there!

BUZZHow do you find your way at night? You must have excellent training!

EXT. BONNIE’S HOUSE - NIGHT81 81

A heavy snow falls. We see Harry park the van on the empty white street. Neighbors' lights are off and all is quiet.


Harry puts the van in park, and shuts off the engine. He looks to Marv.

HARRYThis one is gonna’ be a piece of cake. Lights are out. No-one is home on this entire street. And we got snow to cover our tracks.

MARVCould you ask for a better Christmas?

HARRYCrowbars up.

They chuckle and CLINK their crowbars together, and get out of the van.


The lights are off. Woody is on the bed, looking out the window. He sees Harry and Marv leave their van. He scrambles back to the edge of the bed, looking down at the toys.

WOODYPlaces everybody! Remember: stay in your pairs, stick to the plan and don’t get seen! Good luck out there!

The toys scatter. Holding his hat, Woody jumps down and follows them into the darkness.

INT. BONNIE’S HOUSE - FRONT ENTRANCE - NIGHT84 84

It is dark, but a full moon and snow help light the room. We see Woody give Slinky a boost. Hamm is holding his legs, and Slinky's upper body gracefully extends. He grips the door handle firmly.

Slinky looks down to Woody, who nods. Slinky unlocks the door. They silently scatter and hide nearby.

EXT. BONNIE’S HOUSE - FRONT ENTRANCE - NIGHT85 85

Marv heads to the front door. Harry pulls his arm.

HARRYWhy do you always gotta’ try the front door?

MARVBecause I’m not scared of front door handles like you!

Harry hits Marv.

HARRYThat’s a low blow, Marv!

MARVOw! Sorry, but it’s true! One of these days you’ll have to get over your fear. Maybe they left it unlocked. Parents often forget things it times of stress.

HARRYOh, so you’re a shrink and master cat burglar now?

MARVI’ve been doing some reading, yes.

HARRYWell go ahead, Marv. Show me what you’ve learned.

Harry looks at his scarred hand. There is a faded “M” on his palm. He waits by the van.

Marv approaches the steps hesitantly, looking around. He takes a step, slips and flies into the air and onto his back. WHAM! This winds him, and we see his breath escape.

HARRY (CONT'D)You okay?

We see a shot of Marv on his back stunned, his eyes wide open. Marv groans, getting up. He slips and slides, but grabs onto the hand railing. His legs buckle and slip as he heads to the door. He stands at the step.

95.

Marv touches the handle with his hand quickly. It is safe. He turns it, and the door swings freely. Beaming, he looks back an annoyed Harry.

MARVBe careful. It’s slippery!

Harry curses to himself as he slips numerous times up the stairs.

HARRYHaven’t they ever heard of salt?!

As he enters the house, he pushes Marv aside.

HARRY (CONT'D)Let me in! I’m freezin’ already.

Marv shakes his head, smiling and follows him inside.


Jesse sits alone in the dark. She sees a flash of a tail by the closet door. She jumps in fright, straining to look in the black.

Suddenly, from beneath, Mr. M jumps and swipes the satchel with his paw. Mr. M SNARLS. The satchel swings on the door. Jesse shrieks, holding on tightly.

JESSEHelp!

The closet door slowly creaks open, and light spills into the room. Mr. M perks up, and bounds into the closet.


Mr. M runs in. He scans the area. The box is no longer on the floor. Mr. M sniffs around. We pull back, and see Griz, Magneto, Commander, Hulk and BA standing on top of the upside down and empty box- dangling above Mr. M.

96.

Stretch is holding the box. His legs are wrapped around the light cord. Below, a small patch of Griz' hair sits on the floor.

Mr. M approaches and sniffs it, and then devours it.

MAGNETONow!

Stretch lets go of the box, and the toys hold on as the box comes down on top of Mr. M, trapping him inside. The box kicks wildly, and the toys shake around. But they maintain their hold.

Mr. M GROWLS, bucking, but the box does not tip. Mr. M scratches at it. Stretch unwinds his feet and jumps down. His arms shrink back into place.

JESSE(O.C)What’s goin’ on in there? Is everybody okay?

STRETCHJump down. It’s safe!


Jesse climbs out of the satchel, and gently lowers herself to the floor. She runs over the closet, and sees the toys hanging on to the bucking, snarling cardboard box.

Magneto strains, but maintains composure.

MAGNETOJesse, be a dear and check the desk for some tape, would you?

Jesse nods, running out and climbing up on the desk. She opens the drawers and eventually finds some tape. She runs into the closet.

Jesse runs in, and tapes the box securely to the floor. Mr. M is still snarling, but has stopped struggling.

Hulk jumps off, and high fives BA, Griz and Commander, who are cheering and laughing in relief.

HULKOh yeah, brothers! That was the sickest thing I’ve ever seen! Oh, and sister. Sorry.

Hulk paces the box and puts his ear to it.

HULK (CONT'D)Whatcha’ gonna do now?

Mr. M snarls, and the box jiggles. Hulk jumps back a little. He chuckles, and Jesse smiles. Magneto climbs down off the box, and looks at Stretch.

MAGNETOStretch, that was an amazing feat of strength. Simply excellent.

STRETCHIt was nothing.

Jesse comes over and hugs Stretch. He enjoys it, closing his eyes and hugging back.

JESSEThank you for doing this! You saved me! All of you!

MAGNETOWe are not done yet.

The vent in closet RUMBLES beside them.

MAGNETO (CONT'D)Ah... Right on queue.

Buzz and Zurg crash through the vent cover. They are grimy, and look tired. Buzz sees Jesse and runs to him. They embrace.

JESSEOh Buzz! You made it!

Buzz looks at Zurg.

BUZZI wouldn’t have made it without this brave toy. Jesse, meet Z.

Jesse is taken aback by the fact that it’s a Zurg doll. She sees his cuts, scars, missing arm and grime.

JESSEI’ve heard so much about you...

Zurg thrusts his arm out to Jesse, but she runs and hugs him. He chuckles evilly, and this sets Jesse on edge.

BUZZDon’t worry. He does that. Perfectly normal.

Jesse takes Buzz by the hand and leads him to the gang.

JESSEBuzz, this is Magneto. He is their leader.

Buzz shakes his hand.

MAGNETOHello there, old boy!

JESSEThis is Griz.

Buzz looks at Griz from head to toe.

BUZZThat’s a fine sweater you have on!

Griz blushes, and curtseys.

GRIZThank you!

Griz smiles, and Buzz looks at Griz's teeth, mildly concerned. He covers his mouth, and laughs sheepishly.

GRIZ (CONT'D)Sorry. We don’t have a dental plan.

Jesse leads Buzz onward to Commander.

JESSEThis is Commander.

Buzz salutes him. Commander salutes back.

BUZZCommander.

JESSEThis here is BA.

BA walks over to Buzz and holds his hand out.

BAHey there! Gimme some skin!

BUZZUh... I don’t have any skin.

BA pauses for a moment, staring at Buzz in silence. He then cracks a smile, and puts Buzz in a headlock.

BAYou’re alright by me!

BA releases Buzz, and they laugh. Jesse leads Buzz to Hulk and looks back at Magneto, who sighs and nods.

Hulk stands there, smiling. Jesse says nothing. Buzz is confused. They stand in silence. Hulk clears his throat.

HULKUh, aren’t you going to ask me who I am?

Commander walks off slowly.

COMMANDER(IN BACKGROUND)I’ll get the tape...

Buzz coughs awkwardly. In the background, Commander is drags in the tape deck.

BUZZSo, well-groomed topless man... Who are you?

Hulk jumps in the air in excitement, then high fives BA. Griz, Stretch and Magneto groan. “Real American” plays in the background.

HULKOoh Yeah Brothers! We should have people over more often!

INT. BONNIE'S HOUSE - HALLWAY - NIGHT90 90

Marv is looks around with his head lamp. He sees the kitchen ahead, but does not look down at the floor. He steps on the rake. WHAM! The handle arcs up and whips him in the nose. He YELPS. The rake CLATTERS to the floor.

HARRY (O.C.)Marv? What is it? You okay?

Marv, holding his nose, looks at the floor and sees the rake. Annoyed, he kicks it to one side.

MARVNothing. Just a rake in the hallway.

HARRYA what? Did you say a rake?

Marv rubs his nose.

MARVYeah. Watch your step.

Marv enters the kitchen, leaving Harry in the living room.

INT. BONNIE'S HOUSE - KITCHEN - FRIDGE91 91

Ken and Barbie wear matching 80's neon winter gear. They run at the fridge door and push it open.


The fridge opens slowly, casting a golden glow in the darkness. Marv walks over and looks inside.

MARVHey Harry!

HARRYYeah?

MARVWhy is the fridge open?

Marv picks up an open packet of jumbo hot dogs, and puts them back in the fridge. He closes the door and looks around with his head lamp.

HARRY (O.C.)Gee Marv. I must have left it open. I don’t know, you idiot! I don’t live here! We’re here for loot, not food. And be quiet!

A small shadow passes quickly in front of Marv. He SHRIEKS.

HARRY (CONT'D)What is it now?

Harry marches up the hallway. We hear him trip on the rake. He curses to himself, then bursts into the kitchen, casting his head lamp around.

MARVI-I-I just saw something moving over there!

Marv points to a doorway, but it is dark.

HARRYDon’t point, stupid. I can’t see. Use your head lamp. Where?

MARVThere!

We see Woody, hiding behind a door jamb. He closes his eyes as the two inch closer.


Slink grips onto the door handle once more. He CLICKS it open. A cold wind blows in.


Harry shivers and turns around.

HARRYMarv, did you close the door when you came in?

MARVUh-huh.

HARRYWait here.

Suspicious, Harry turns around and heads back to the living room.

Moonlit snow fall blows in ahead of us. Harry approaches, crowbar raised. He closes front door, and turns around. He jumps. Chuckles is standing motionless by the door, staring back at him.

HARRYHa. Very funny, Marv!

MARV (O.C.)Whatcha’ say, Harry?

HARRYAh, forget it. I’m seein’ things is all.

Harry chuckles to himself, and kicks Chuckles aside.

Slinky and Hamm hide behind a nearby couch. Harry walks by them and heads back to the kitchen. Hamm nods to Slinky creep out again and open the door.

Harry freezes in his steps. Eyes wide. He turns around slowly, facing the door once more.

Chuckles is standing facing Harry again. Harry, in disbelief, walks over to Chuckles and looks at him closely. Meanwhile, Marv walks up softly behind him.

MARVWhat is it, Harry?

Harry jumps, then hits Marv in the stomach with his crowbar. Harry SLAMS the door.

HARRYYou almost scared me half to death, you creep! It’s nothin’. Let’s get back to work.

Marv is wide-eyed with fear.

MARVWhat-what if this place is haunted?

Harry shakes his head, leading Marv to the kitchen.

HARRYDon’t go crazy on me Marv. I can’t handle it. (Beat)Come on, let’s go get a snack. You know how you get when you don’t eat.

MARVYeah. A snack is good.

EXT. NEIGHBORS YARD - NIGHT96 96

Potato Head's pieces are jammed into jumbo hot dog. He squeezes through the fence with a pop. Patches is asleep in his dog house.

Potato Head looks at Patches' chain. He grins to Mr Pricklepants, who has dislodged a board and climbed under it.

POTATO HEADWatch this.

MR. PRICKLEPANTSI do not think it wise to tempt fate.

Potato Head makes a snowball and pelts it at Patches, who jumps and SNARLS. He sees Potato Head and runs full speed. Potato Head stands just at the edge of the chain length, and the dog WHIPS back onto his butt and YELPS.

MR. POTATO HEADYeah, whatever. Can it, Pants. Let’s do this already.

Potato Head starts running to Bonnie's front door, but his ungainly size makes him wobble comically. He hold onto his hat.

MR. PRICKLEPANTSOne... Two... Three!

CLICK! The chain unhooks, and Patches whips out of his yard, sprinting after Potato Head.

Potato Head pants but is almost at the door.

MR. POTATO HEADI have a lot of water weight!

INT. BONNIE'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT97 97

Slinky opens the door again, and Potato Head comes scrambling in.

A few seconds later, Patches follows.

INT. BONNIE’S HOUSE - KITCHEN - NIGHT98 98

The counter top is full of food, and Marv is greedily eating a sloppy sandwich. Harry hears the door open, surprised.

HARRYWhat the?

Marv stops eating, his face covered in Mayo. He GULPS his last bite, eyes wide.

MARVWhat is it, HARRY?

HARRYIt’s nothin’. Wait here. Door must be broke or somethin.’

Harry leaves the kitchen.


Harry walks down the corridor, and sees Potato Head lying on the floor. He walks over and picks him up.

Patches GROWLS at Harry, who looks up in surprise to see a dog sprinting at him. Harry scrambles away, dropping Potato Head, who breaks in two as he smacks the floor.

Harry and Marv run away from Patches, screaming.

INT. HALLWAY - NIGHT100 100

There is a night light in the hallway, casting a green glow. In it, we see Woody.

WOODYOkay, Trixie, they’re coming! Now!

107.

He gives a thumbs up signal to Trixie, who tosses him a the end of some Christmas lights. Woody catches it, and ties it around the bottom of the stair railing.

WOODY (CONT'D)Got it!

We follow the other end, and see that it is tied to the leg of a table in the hallway. Woody plucks the lights, and it TWANGS. He runs to Trixie, and they hide and watch.

Harry and Marv sprint down the corridor, and hit the trip wire. TWANG! They go flying into the air and land on each other with a thud, stunned. Harry lies on top of Marv.

Patches pounces and bites Harry in the butt. Harry screams.


Potato Head angrily re-assembles himself onto one half of the hot dog.

NOTE: The broken side is nearest the floor.

He waddles over to Hamm and Slinky behind the couch, who snicker when they see him.

MR. POTATO HEADDon’t say a word.

Hamm laughs, gripping Potato Head's hand.

HAMMCome on, short stuff, this way.

Slinky laughs as they help Potato Head climb the stairs.

SLINKYYou look like a meat ghost!

Woody, holding his hat, creeps past Patches. He runs over quietly to Potato Head, Hamm and Slinky.

WOODY(Whispering)Ha ha! Great goin’ guys! See youupstairs! Watch your step!

Once they are out of sight, Woody looks down the hallway. He can see Harry screaming and fighting with Patches.

Woody whistles with his fingers. Patches turns his head. He sees Woody waving a chunk of hot dog and runs over.

WOODY (CONT'D)Here boy!

Patches sees Woody and scampers over.


Woody pets Patches and feeds him the hot dog chunk. Patches licks Woody and wags his tail. Woody whispers something into Patches ear, and the dog wags his tail.

WOODYReady boy? Go!

Woody opens the door, and Patches scuttles out. We hear him slip and fall down the stairs. Woody cringes.

WOODY (CONT'D)Uh... You okay?

There is silence. Moments later, we hear a single, happy BARK from Patches.


Harry holds his butt and climbs off Marv. They lie on their backs next to each other. Harry winces.

HARRYI didn’t see no dog when we cased the joint!

109.

MARVI know! One minute, silence, the next... Woof!

HARRYI swear, Marv, if you say that this place is ha-

MARVThis place is haunted!

Marv starts to sob. HARRY thumps his chest, and he wheezes. Marv stops sobbing.

HARRYWhy are you cryin? My butt is in that dumb mutts mouth.

Harry gets up, holding his butt. He helps Marv up, who CRACKS his back. Harry's wallet falls out of his torn pants, and he does not notice.

HARRY (CONT'D)Come on. Get your crow bar. Time to teach this mutt who’s in charge here...

Marv picks up his crow bar.

MARVMaybe you’re just not a dog person.

Harry hits Marv.

HARRYShut up, you moron! And hit the lights. This is stupid. Ain’t nobody home. And that little creep could be anywhere.

Marv turns on the light in the hallway. There is no sign of Patches. They look at each other.

110.

HARRY (CONT'D)You can go first, since you’re so good wit’ dogs and all...

Marv advances cautiously, crowbar up. He looks back at Harry, gulping.


The light comes on as. We see Marv from the view of the Christmas tree in the living room, and pan back. Trixie and Woody have a large marble loaded into a slingshot, and it’s pointed at Marv.

WOODY(Whispering)Steady... Steady... Now!

Trixie releases the shot. The marble flies across the room, and into MARV’s temple. WHACK! He twirls around and then hits the floor.

TRIXIE(WHISPERING)Direct hit!

They high five. Marv lies on the floor, yelping. Harry yells over.

HARRYWhat is it, MARV?

MARVS-sniper! Stay there!

Marv scrambles and hides behind the couch- directly in front of Woody and Trixie. They reload.

HARRYSniper? What? Marv! I didn’t hear nuthin!

Trixie pulls back the slingshot.

111.

MARVI’m telling you, Harry, something ain’t right!

Harry walks into the room, looking around. He sees nothing. The room is quiet.

WOODY(Whispering)Now!

Trixie releases the shot, and WHACK! It hits Marv in the back of his neck. He yelps, hitting the floor and rolling around. Harry ducks. The marble spins and lands on the carpet in front of Harry's feet.

Harry looks at the tree.

HARRYI think it came from over ‘dere.

Woody and Trixie fall motionless. The slingshot falls out of the tree. Harry runs at the tree with his crow bar.

HARRY (CONT'D)Come on out, you little creep!

The tree ornaments bob up and down and lights fall off as Harry BASHES the tree. He steps on presents, crushing the boxes. Trixie and Woody tumble out onto the carpet. Marv looks at them.

MARVHey look, Harry! Toys!

Harry picks up Woody and Trixie, looking at them. He looks around the room.

HARRYThat means there’s a kid in here.

MARVAnd he’s seen our faces!

Harry drops Woody and Trixie, looking around.

HARRYStay here and keep a look out.

Harry heads to the hallway.


The toys sit in a circle on a neat desk. Stretch is missing. The box is silent in the background.

ZURGSo it is decided.

JESSEWhat if we waited until daylight? We could sneak out.

COMMANDERI hate to rain on your parade, but we’re not gonna’ last if he gets let out. He’s gonna’ find us, and when he does he gonna’ eat us!(Beat) It’s game over, man. Game over!

Griz hits Commander on the back of his head.

GRIZKnock it off.

MAGNETOMy dear, I speak for all of us here when I say that we would rather be owned than eaten.

BAYou heard da’ man! I ain’t goin’ to be in the belly of some fuzz brain!

HULKYou said it! It’s now or never, brothers!

We see Stretch leave the closet and climb up on the table. He salutes Magneto.

STRETCHThe tape was coming loose, so I re- enforced the seals. Ha! He is mad. He sounds like a baby lion in there.

They all chuckle.

MAGNETOExcellent work, Stretch. Please, join us.

Stretch walks over to Griz, who makes some room for him. Griz notices a long, deep cut on Stretch's hand.

GRIZYou’re hurt!

Stretch looks at his hand.

STRETCHThis? It’s nothing. The knife slipped when I was cutting the tape.

JESSELet me see!

Jesse runs over and grabs Stretch's hand. He grunts. Buzz tries to act unconcerned, but he is not convincing.

JESSE (CONT'D)You fixed my leg, it’s the least I can do!

Stretch pulls his hand away.

STRETCHIt’s fine. Continue with what you were talking about. I’ll tape it up later. Listen Jesse, what I said to you yesterday was rude, and I

JESSEI understand, Stretch. You’re a great guy. And you’ve already done a lot for me. But I am spoken for.

Jesse kisses Stretch on the cheek, and then sits down next to Buzz, holding his hand. Buzz smiles.

BUZZSo... How are we going to get back home?

Zurg paces the meeting area.

ZURGI memorized the route on my initial voyage. This educational facility is a significant distance from 1225 Sycamore, but I recall seeing a facility in which water transport and pumping vehicles are dispatched to extinguish properties engulfed in flames.

JESSEUh... You mean a fire station?

Buzz leans in to Jesse.

BUZZHe does that.

JESSEOh...

Buzz hops to his feet.

BUZZBut he’s right! We just need to trigger the alarm and wait for the cavalry! Excellent work, Z! (Beat)Now, let’s find a fire alarm!

ZURGThat plan will work, Buzz Lightyear. However, there is no need to trigger the alarm. There is a much simpler way. Observe.

Zurg moves over to the telephone. Zurg hits “speaker phone” and we hear a dial tone.

ZURG (CONT'D)In my travels, I have noted that there is a three-digit code that humans type into these telecommunication devices when they are in need of assistance. It is 9-1-1.

Zurg punches in the numbers as he speaks them. The phone rings, and an OPERATOR answers.

OPERATOR911. Please state the nature of your emergency.

Zurg clears his throat.

ZURGA municipal property is engulfed in flames.

OPERATORCan you give me the location of the fire, sir?

ZURGSummerview Middle School. Please make haste!

Zurg hangs up the line. Buzz approaches him.

BUZZBlast! I completely forgot! Z, can we use this line to call in emergency services to Bonnie’s house?

ZURGIt can be done. Why?

JESSEIs everything okay?

BUZZYes. No. I’m not sure! There are boogers in the area, and they want to rob the place!

Griz scratches his head.

GRIZUh... Did he just say boogers?

COMMANDERSounded like it.

JESSEUh... I think they’re called burglars, Buzz.

BUZZBurglars! Yes. What did I say?

JESSENever mind. Go on. Something about burglars?

BUZZYes. Woody and I believe they were going to strike tonight- we can call the police from here and send them to Bonnie’s house, right?

ZURGThat is correct, Buzz Lightyear!

Jesse jumps up.

JESSEYahoo! I hope they catch those varmints red handed! Stretch, let’s get you fixed up!

Jesse heads to Stretch, but he holds her back.

STRETCHBuzz can do it. If we’re moving in with you guys, it looks like I’ll have to get to know him a little better.

JESSEOkay. Buzz, would you mind helping out Stretch?

BUZZNot at all! Jesse, you go with the toys to the front entrance. Z, you know the address, can you make the call?

Zurg salutes Buzz.

ZURGConsider it made.

BUZZAlright! Lets get you patched up, soldier! Now, where’s the tape?

Buzz looks in the desk drawer, throwing out post-it-notes, pencils and paper clips.

STRETCHIt’s in the closet.

Buzz and Stretch jump down. Zurg heads to the phone and makes the call. He joins the remaining toys as they climb down off the table, and head to the office door.

BUZZYou guys go on ahead! We’ll catch up!


Ken- dressed in a tight acrobat outfit -takes a deep breath.

118.

KEN(Talking like a commentator)The crowd is silent, eager to see what Acrobat Ken can do. (Beat)They hold their breaths in anticipation. Ken is going for the gold medal.

Ken runs at Barbie, who boosts him. He jumps deftly up to the handle and opens the back door, landing with a somersault and arms raised.

KEN (CONT'D)A perfect finish! Now lets see what the judges think!

Ken looks up to the kitchen counter hopefully. Rex and Mrs. Potato Head look at each other, confer, and then scribble down a note. They hold the results up. They both say 10.

Ken giggles like a girl, jumping up and down. He mimics a roaring crowd by breathing through cupped hands.

Barbie runs over and kisses him on the cheek, placing a medal around his neck.

BARBIEI never knew you were so acrobatic!

KENI knew what was on the line, and just played for the big W for the home team.

Patches comes sprinting past them, heading up the hallway. Ken and Barbie run off frame into the dark.


Harry sprints in, screaming. Patches closes in, growling. Marv sees Harry and heads for the door. As they exit, they hit the ice and slide off the steps.

We see them from the doorway. They have landed in painful positions. Patches barks and pees on Marv, before proudly strutting back to his yard out of the frame.


Woody closes the door, and locks it. He carefully opens the window with mouse traps on them.

EXT. BONNIE'S HOUSE - NIGHT109 109

Harry is furious, and rolls off Marv, standing up. He looks at the house. Bonnie's bedroom light flicks on.

HARRYYou see dat?

MARVNo, Harry. See what?

HARRYThat light up there just came on.

MARVThen lets get back inside and get that little jerk!

HARRYYou said it. Come on.

Harry helps Marv up, and they walk to the door. Harry sniffs Marv and winces.

HARRY (CONT'D)Marv, you stink.

MARVIt wasn’t my fault, Harry!

They make their way up the steps slipping and sliding.

Woody, Bullseye and Trixie struggle to push a car battery to the door. Woody hooks up a jumper cable to the positive and clamps the other end on the door handle. They run away upstairs.


They have made up the stairs, and stand by the doorway. Harry is about to reach for the door handle, but stops himself.

MARVDon’t be such a scare-dy cat, Harry. I grabbed it earlier. It’s safe.

Harry takes a scoop of snow and palms it. He grabs the handle, and we hear a surge of electricity, as his hand closes over the door handle. His feet twitch and his hand steams. He groans in pain. His head starts smoking. His feet slip and slide underneath him.

MARV (CONT'D)Let go Harry! Let go!

HARRY(SHUDDERING)I c-c-can’t-t, y-y-ou m-m-moron!

Marv touches Harry and gets shocked. He screams, then slips on the ice. Marv scrambles up, and uses his sleeves to cover his hands.

Marv pries Harry off the door handle using his crowbar. Harry falls backward stiffly, sliding down the stairs stiff like a board.

INT. MRS. MAVEN’S CLOSET - NIGHT112 112

BUZZ is wraps tape on Stretch's arm.

BUZZThere. Good as new, soldier!

STRETCHThanks. Jesse’s right about you. You’re a good guy.

Buzz smiles. Stretch picks the tape up with one hand.

BUZZThank you. And you seem like a fine fellow! If you’re a friend of Jesse’s you’re a friend of mine.

Stretch holds out his free hand.

STRETCHThanks. Put it there.

Buzz reaches for the handshake. Stretch suddenly grabs Buzz and tapes his arms behind him with several wraps.

BUZZHey! Hey! What do you think you’re doing?

Buzz struggles, but it is no use. Stretch tapes Buzz around his legs, and knocks him down to the floor, laughing.

STRETCHI have been in this place for too long. I want out. I want a life of my own.

BUZZBut that’s where we’re going!

STRETCHNo, you’re wrong. That’s where I’m going. And you’re little cowgirl friend will be mine.

Buzz struggles to no avail.

122.

BUZZYou’re insane, you traitor! Help! Hel-

Stretch tapes Buzz's mouth, and we hear muffled cries for help. Stretch stands over him.

STRETCHIf there's one thing I learned being trapped in this place, it's every toy for himself.

Stretch thrusts a box cutter into the box and slices a flap for Mr. M. Stretch climbs into the vent nearby and drags the cover in front of it.

STRETCH (CONT'D)I'll be sure to tell Jesse you fell in the line of duty, the way a good Space Ranger should. Haste La Vista.

Mr. M bursts out of the box and pounces at Buzz.


Harry has recovered, and Marv helps him to his feet.

Harry looks at the window cracked open beside them. He stretches his back. It cracks loudly and he winces.

HARRYYou’re up. You go through the window first and see what that was.

Marv makes his way to the window, armed with his crowbar. He peers in. We see from his point of view, and see the battery and booster cable.

MARVI see it, Harry!

HARRYWhat is it?

123.

MARVIt’s a car battery!

Harry kicks up snow.

HARRYWell? Get in there and turn it off!

Marv nods and opens the window. He reaches his hands inside.


We see Marv's probing fingers as he grabs the ledge. His fingers graze over the mouse traps, triggering them. WHACK! The spring comes down, smacking Marv on his fingers. He YELPS.


Marv falls to his knees, showing Harry the mouse trap.

HARRYThat was probably all of em. Get in there. I'm freezing!

Marv angrily snatches the trap off and dives through the window.


Marv topples the tree on himself. He struggles to get it off, then kicks it away. He disconnects the battery and drags it aside. Marv opens the door.

Harry pushes past him. Marv closes the door.

HARRY(Yelling)Wherever you are, you little creep! I’m going to find you! And when I do...

They head down the hallway to the stairs.

EXT. SCHOOL ENTRANCE - NIGHT117 117

Fire trucks fill the parking lot, and red lights reflect off the snow. FIREMEN jump out, and assess the scene. Others set up hoses and drag them out.

We can make out the toys: Jesse, Hulk, BA, Zurg, Griz and Commander, as they hide in a snowy bush.

ZURGWe must make haste if we are to abscond these premises!

Jesse looks back at the office window.

JESSEBuzz and Stretch aren’t here! Where are they?

MAGNETOI’m sure they will show up soon enough. We must get on board!

One FIREMAN grabs an axe and heads to the front entrance. He turns on a head lamp, and the toys jump down out of view. The bush shakes, and the FIREMAN sees it.

FIREMAN 1What the?

The toys hold their breath as he approaches.

FIREMAN 2 yells out to FIREMAN 1.

FIREMAN 2You see anything? I’m clear over here!

FIREMAN 1 ignores the bushes and heads to the front entrance. He peers in, and tries the handle. The door opens.

FIREMANNah! I don’t see nuthin! But there door is open! Hey Sarge! Want me to go inside and look around?

FIREMAN 1 turns around to look at his SERGEANT. The SERGEANT is portly and gruff looking. His large grey moustache twitches.

SERGEANTForget it. There’s no sign of firehere. Darn kids! This is the thirdprank call this week!

He kicks snow up in the air and sighs.

SERGEANT (CONT'D)Alright. Pack it up boys! Time to go home.

The Firemen pack up. Jesse peeks out and sees an open door of a fire truck.

JESSENow’s our chance!

Timing it just right, they run for it. The toys climb inside the truck one-by-one. Zurg is not with them. Magneto reaches for the door handle. He sees Stretch running across the school yard.

STRETCHWait!

INT. FIRE TRUCK - NIGHT118 118

We are in the rear cab of a well used fire truck. The toys spread out over coats, gloves and helmets. Magneto smiles, turning to Jesse.

MAGNETOI can see Stretch!

126.

Jesse perks up, smiling. She peers out the window excitedly. She can see Stretch running.

JESSEWhat about Buzz?

MAGNETOI don’t see him yet, but I’m sure he’s there!

Magneto helps Stretch aboard. Jesse looks at him. Stretch's face is solemn. JESSE’S heart sinks. The toys’ smiles fade around her.

JESSEWhere... Where’s Buzz?

Stretch shakes his head slowly.

STRETCHHe... He didn’t make it. Mr. M...

Firemen enter the truck. The toys fall still. Fireman 1 RAPS the door twice once he is inside.

FIREMAN 1Let’s go!

EXT. SCHOOL YARD - NIGHT119 119

We see Jesse in the window, her face a picture of sadness as the fire truck pulls away. Red lights flash and fade as snow falls around an empty parking lot.

INT. BONNIE'S HOUSE - STAIRS - NIGHT120 120

Harry and Marv climb the staircase cautiously.

INT. BONNIE'S ROOM - NIGHT121 121

The light is out, and we see Trixie by moonlight. She stands by the door with echo microphone. Woody peeks under the door. He sees Harry and Marv coming up the stairs, and gives her the thumbs up. She clears her throat.

INT. BONNIE'S HOUSE - STAIRS - NIGHT122 122

We hear Trixie. The door is closed.

TRIXIEYou shouldn’t be in here! Uh... I’m-I’m going to call the police!

Harry and Marv look at each other and panic. They start running, not seeing the slick of clear detergent. They reach the top step and slip, smashing their backs on the stairs and tumble down them.

Harry clenches his fist and bashes it on the floor.

HARRYOhhh! When I get hold of that kid!

Harry gets up, slipping on detergent residue on his shoe. Marv gets up in the same fashion.

MARVShe’s going to call the cops!

HARRYNo she ain’t.

Harry sees the main phone transmitter on the wall nearby and yanks it off angrily. He chuckles and yells up the stairs.

HARRY (CONT'D)Try calling the cops now, little girl!

Marv looks at the phone on the floor.

MARVHarry, what if she has a cellphone?

They look at each other and run up the stairs.

INT. BATHROOM - NIGHT123 123

Dolly stands on the counter. She runs and jumps toward the toilet, grabbing the flush lever. The toilet flushes.

INT. STAIRS - NIGHT124 124

Harry and Marv look at the bathroom door. Harry nods to Marv and points at the door. Marv slips and slides his way to the bathroom and opens it up.


Marv opens the door quickly.

MARVGot ya!

Marv walks inside and does not see a trip wire at his feet. He falls onto his face, landing on sheets of flypaper. It covers his eye brows, nose and eyes. He gets up, tugging at it. His skin stretches as he tries to pull the sheet off.

MARV (CONT'D)Ow! Ow! Ow!

HARRY(O.C)Marv? Marv?

MARVIt’s a booby trap, Harry! My face!

HARRYHold on, I’ll be right there!

INT. MOM’S BEDROOM - NIGHT126 126

Slinky, Hamm and Potato Head wait by the door. Slinky has the camera. He takes a photo. The flash goes off.

INT. BONNIE'S HOUSE - STAIRWELL - NIGHT127 127

HARRY slips and slides up the hallway to the bathroom. He sees the flash go off and changes directions.

HARRYI got him, Marv! That creep is in the bedroom! And he’s got a camera!

Harry, now at the bedroom door, turns and looks at Marv trying to pull flypaper off his face.

HARRY (CONT'D)This kid is going to get, it Marv. I mean really gonna’ get it. You hear that, kid!? You got no place to go in ‘dere.

Harry touches the door handle quickly, then opens it. The room is empty. Harry looks around, flipping bed covers, opening drawers. Harry sees a closet door. He grins and heads to it.

HARRY (CONT'D)End of the line, kid...

He rips the door open. This pulls a string, which removes a doorstop from a bowling ball. As Harry searches inside, we hear the ball rolling. Harry looks up and sees the ball coming toward him.

HARRY (CONT'D)Oh no.

It lands on his head. He twirls, then falls to the floor by the closet. Hamm and Potato Head hold Slinky by his back legs, and Slinky uncoils off the top shelf.

He has a bottle of glue, and starts painting on Harry's face. He chuckles.

SLINKYTime for a make over!


Marv has both hands gripped on the flypaper. He takes a deep breath.

MARVThis is going to hurt. One...Two... Thre

Marv yanks on the paper as hard as he can.

EXT. BONNIE'S STREET - NIGHT129 129

We have a view of the house from up the street. We hear Marv screaming.


Marv sobs, holding his face. He closes his eyes and reaches for the light switch. He flicks it on, and looks in the mirror.

He has no eyebrows or moustache. He looks at the flypaper and sees them cleanly transferred on it. He touches the red, sore skin and sobs momentarily. He screams in anger.

MARVHarry! Where is he? Did you get him?

Marv leaves the bathroom, slipping and sliding over to Mom's bedroom.

Marv sees Harry on the floor face down, dazed and moaning. He sees the bowling ball next to him. Marv helps Harry to his feet.

Harry's feet buckle, and his head hangs by his chest. Marv gently slaps his face.

MARVWakey, wakey, sleepy head. You okay?

Harry moans, drooling. Marv grimaces.

MARV (CONT'D)Harry, look at me.

Harry slowly raises his head to Marv. Marv recoils. Harry's face has star shapes and hearts all over it, and they are painted in purple glitter.

MARV (CONT'D)What did you do to your face? You look like Elton John.

Harry winces, holding his head. He looks at Marv.

HARRYMarv, where are your eye brows?


Trixie stands by the door with the microphone. She holds in a giggle.

TRIXIEGuys! I give up! Don’t hurt me, okay?

HARRYShe’s back in that bedroom, again! Let’s go!

INT. UPPER HALLWAY - NIGHT134 134

We see Harry and Marv slide up the hallway, holding onto the railing.

MARVSomething ain’t right, Harry! We haven’t seen anyone all night.

She is a little too close to the microphone, and it echoes out.

MARVDid you hear that? She said “ghosts”.

Harry hits Marv.

MARV (CONT'D)Shut up! Ghosts aren’t real, you moron! Now open the door already! Oh... I can’t wait to get in there...

Harry cracks his knuckles, grinning. Marv tuns the handle.


As Marv opens the door, he snaps a piece of dental floss that is holding the pin-covered flyswatter in place. The flyswatter has been folded in half back on itself. It swings out, smacking Marv in the face.

Marv screams, backing up.

INT. STAIRWELL - NIGHT138 138

Harry moves out of the way as Marv slides back on the detergent. He topples over the railing and onto the floor below.

Harry runs into the room.

HARRYThat’s it! I’ve had it! Come on out!

Harry turns the room upside-down in rage. Behind him, Chuckles runs in and slowly closes the door. As it closes, it creaks.

Harry stops what he is doing, his eyes wide. He clenches his crowbar and turns around slowly.

He sees a moonlit Chuckles on the floor, and jumps in fright.

Behind him, the musical chime of an old jack-in-the-box plays slowly. He jumps around again.

134.

WOODY(O.C)You shouldn’t take things that don’t belong to you.

Harry jumps, looking for the source of the voice.

HARRYW-where are you? This house ain’t haunted! There’s no such thing as ghosts. So come on out!

The music plays on, Harry inches closer. It is at the end of the chime, but does nothing. He pokes it. It does nothing. Suddenly, the jack-in-the-box opens and Woody is holding a squirt gun.

WOODY(Pull String Voice)Reach for the sky...

Harry jumps. Woody squirts the gun Harry's eyes. He screams.

HARRYMy eyes! My eyes! I can’t see!

Chuckles opens the door, and Harry goes running out. He slides on the detergent and also topples over the edge.

INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT139 139

Marv gets up, shaking his head. Harry SLAMS onto him, screaming. They both pass out. We hear sirens in the background, and flashing red and blue police lights.

INT. MR. M’S LAIR - NIGHT140 140

In a dark and cobweb filled area of the ventilation shafts, we see Buzz, passed out. Glowing in the dark, his taped up body is surrounded by arms and legs of various toys.

135.

We snorts, waking up. He struggles to look around. He wriggles over to a piece of sharp tin and uses it to cut the tape on his arms. He bursts free, unwrapping his legs and mouth.

Arms, heads and legs are strewn over the area. Toys that have fallen victim to Mr. M. He looks around in horror at this graveyard.

Using his laser, Buzz lights the area around him. He lights a furry white leg of Mr. M as he slowly advances out of the shadows. In an eerie green glow cast from Buzz, Mr. M snarls- his tail flicking.

Buzz takes a defensive stance.

BUZZLook, furry animal! I don’t wish to fight you!

Mr. M advances slowly. Buzz backs up, his footing is loose beneath him. Mr. M crouches, ready to pounce. Buzz looks around in desperation, but sees no way out. All seems lost.

Mr. M jumps, Buzz flinches. Zurg jumps out of the shadows and grabs Mr. M by the whiskers. He yanks them, and Mr. M snarls, turning his attention to Zurg.

Zurg looks to Buzz. Mr. M swipes at Zurg, but Zurg ducks.

ZURGI believe this evens the score between us, Buzz Lightyear!

BUZZI’m not leaving you!

Zurg receives a paw in the face, and falls to the duct floor. Mr. M pins him down and snarls.

ZURGI am done for! But there is still hope for you! Now go!

136.

Buzz runs off into the black. Mr. M bats Zurg with his paw, slamming him into the vent.

INT. SCHOOL HALL - NIGHT141 141

Buzz pops out of a wall vent and runs to a fire hose in the wall. He stylishly jumps up to it, and opens the latch. Buzz unhooks the hose and throws it like a grappling hook into the vent. He tugs on it to check stability.

Buzz opens the feed valve and climbs the hose into the vent.

INT. VENTILATION SHAFT - SCHOOL - NIGHT142 142

Armed with the hose, Buzz runs through the vent. Up ahead, he sees Mr. M, fighting with Zurg.

Buzz whistles. Mr. M turns around suddenly.

ZURGWhat are you doing, Buzz Lightyear? I told you to leave me be!

BUZZNot today, Zurg!

Buzz advances.

BUZZ (CONT'D)You look dirty. Time to take a bath!

Mr. M hisses and runs at Buzz, who opens the hose. A torrent of water slams into Mr. M. Zurg hangs onto a vent seam, as various arms, legs and heads get washed away down the duct.

The hose uncovers Zurg's other arm. It is jammed into a ceiling vent by the fingers.

Mr. M runs from the hose, his fur wet and soggy. He GROANS, and scrambles away into the dark.

137.

Buzz shuts the hose off and runs to Zurg. He helps him up and pops his other arm free from the vent.

Zurg takes it and attaches it. He clenches his fists.

ZURGIt feels good to be whole again! Thank you, Buzz Lightyear!

Zurg reaches out his right hand to Buzz, who shakes it firmly.

BUZZI had to come back. You’re just like me, you’re one of a kind, Z.

We watch them walk away, following the hose and walking down the vent, with Buzz lighting the way.

ZURGEven though I am grateful for your help, I had him where I wanted him.

BUZZUh-huh.

ZURGYou do not believe me?

BUZZI did not say that. I’m sure it was your plan to be pinned by him.

Buzz laughs, and Zurg joins in. Their laughs echo in the duct.


The front door is open, and the police car lights flash. Snow falls outside. Two POLICE OFFICERS cuff a beaten and bruised Harry and Marv. They lead them outside.

MARVThis house is haunted!

138.

OFFICER 1Sure it is. Let’s go.

OFFICER 1 leads Marv outside. Harry follows behind him, also escorted by a police officer.

HARRYThe toys are alive in there!

OFFICER 2Right...

OFFICER 2 closes the door behind her.


Marv is put into the back of the police car.

MARVHey Harry!

HARRYWhat?

MARVI quit!

Harry struggles, trying to break free. Marv flinches, and they are both stuffed into the back of the police cruiser. The doors are closed, and the officers enter their car and drive away.


Woody stares out the window and watches the car leave. He looks back to the toys gathered around the tree.

WOODYThey’re gone! We did it!

The toys cheer, and hug each other, laughing.

EXT. ROAD TO BONNIE'S HOUSE146 146

Jesse, Griz, Commander, Stretch, Hulk, BA and Magneto sprint up the road. They see the police cruiser and dive into snow. The car passes them. Once it is out of range, they pop out and run to the door.

INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT147 147

Woody and the gang still celebrate. There is a KNOCK at the door. They fall silent. Woody cautiously opens the door. Jesse falls into his arms, and they embrace warmly.

JESSEWoody!

The door opens fully, revealing Jesse's friends with her. Griz waves.

GRIZHello! Can we come in? My butt is getting cold.

WOODYCome in! Come in! It’s nice to see new faces.

Woody looks at Jesse, concerned.

WOODY (CONT'D)Hey, where’s Buzz?

Jesse starts to cry. Woody's eyes turn downward. The room is silent. Woody takes his hat off and closes the door.

INT. BONNIE'S HOUSE - KITCHEN - DAY148 148

The kitchen is tidy, and the fridge is closed. There is no sign of damage. Bonnie yawns and climbs to the breakfast table. Jesse is propped up on a cereal box, smiling.

Mom is at the sink, cleaning. Bonnie sits down to the table.

BONNIEJesse! She’s back!

Mom laughs, tussling Bonnie's hair.

MOMWhen I got up this morning, she wasin the mail box.

Bonnie laughs, hugging Jesse tightly.

MOM (CONT'D)Christmas came early for you. There was a bunch of toys in there. Take a look.

Mom hands Bonnie a small box. In it, are Magneto, Griz, Commander, BA, Hulk and Stretch. She gasps, picking them up.

BONNIENew toys!

MOMI guess Mrs. Maven isn’t so mean after all...

INT. BONNIE'S HOUSE - BONNIE'S ROOM - DAY149 149

A golden afternoon winter sun fills the room. Woody stares glumly out the window.

Rex and Hamm watch him.

REXHe won’t move from that spot. Ever since he heard the news.

HAMMIt’s hard losing a friend. Come on, we have to prepare the service.

They walk off.

A rusty Toyota truck pulls up outside the house. A DELIVERY MAN gets out and brings a pizza to the door. He rings the doorbell.

INT. BONNIE'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY151 151

Mom heads to the front door and opens it.

MOMHello?

DELIVERY MANPizza delivery!

MOMI didn’t order a pizza...

The Delivery Man sighs, and looks at his order.

DELIVERY MANIt says two anchovy pizzas for 1225 Sycamore.

MOMAnchovies? I don’t even like Anchovies. Who orders Anchovies?

As Mom and the Delivery Man argue, we pan away and look at the rumbling vehicle.


Zurg and Buzz make their way to the bushes. Patches barks excitedly at them.

BUZZShhhh! Patches! Behave!

Patches whines and heads back to his dog house. Buzz and Zurg use cover, and head to the living room window. Zurg opens it, and they climb inside.


The box of toys sits on Bonnie's bed. They are gathered around a crayon drawing of Buzz. Woody holds his hat on his chest, his chin low.

WOODYBuzz was my closest friend. (Beat)We’ve been through a lot together. And even though he was a toy, he was still the greatest Space Ranger in the Galaxy. Goodbye, Buzz.

Jesse hugs Woody tightly. Soon enough, the toys all group together.

HAMMGoodbye old friend!

REXI’ll miss you, Buzz!

MRS. POTATO HEADOh, the humanity!

Mrs. Potato Head faints, and Mr Potato Head catches her. They embrace and sob together. The LGM waddle in and embrace the two. Chuckles sad face seems to stretch even further down.

Magneto bows his head.

MAGNETOA moment of silence for a fallen comrade.

HULKA fallen Brother.

The toys lower their heads. Buzz walks into the room with Zurg. He sees them bowing their heads and walks up behind Woody.

Woody raises his head and backs up. He hits Buzz's chest button.

BUZZThere’s a secret mission in outer space, let’s go!

The toys jump, turning to see Buzz. Woody stands amazed for several seconds. Stretch slinks away slowly.

WOODYBuzz! You’re alive!

BUZZOf course I am! And it’s all thanks to this fine fellow here. Guys, meet Z.

JESSEYou’re Z?

Zurg shakes Jesse by the hand warmly. Rex growls.

BUZZEasy, Rex. He’s one of the bravest, most courageous toys I know.

Rex looks at Trixie, confused and pointing.

REXBut he! He! That’s Zurg!

Rex faints, and Trixie fans him. Zurg laughs.

SLINKYWell golly Bob howdy!

Jesse hugs Buzz tightly. He spins he around, and dips her.

BUZZ(In Spanish)My beauty. My rose. How I have longed to see you.

Jesse blushes and giggles. Zurg clenches his fists, looking for Stretch.

ZURGWhere is that accursed betrayer Stretch? He tried to get rid of Buzz Lightyear!

Griz, Commander, BA and Hulk gasp.

COMMANDERWhat?

BAI don’t believe it!

HULKThis must be a mistake. He’s a brother, brothers!

MAGNETOThere must be an explanation behind this...

ZURGNo. He fed Buzz Lightyear to Mr. M. He is not to be trusted!

Griz looks around.

GRIZStretch? Stretch?

Griz looks around.

GRIZ (CONT'D)Where'd he go?

Stretch is up on the window, trying to work the lock. The main toy group is confused.

HAMM(IN THE BACKGROUND)Who is Mr. M?

DOLLY(IN BACKGROUND)Beats me. He sounds evil, though.

GRIZGet him!

HULKGet that traitor, brothers!

Magneto, Buzz, BA, Hulk, Griz and Commander climb the bed, and pull on Stretch. He won’t let go.

STRETCHStupid window! Get off me!

Stretch's arms elongate, and he can hold on no longer. They tie him up in his arms. Woody brings the slingshot over. Stretch struggles.

STRETCH (CONT'D)It’s not fair! What are you doing? Let go of me! No! No!

Trixie climbs up and opens the window with ease.

TRIXIEYou have to twist it.

Jesse approaches Stretch.

JESSEWhy, Stretch? I thought you were one of the good guys.

The remaining toys climb onto the bed. Buzz and Zurg load Stretch into the slingshot. He barely fits. BA and Hulk pull back on the slingshot, and Rex's fainted body is used to prop it up- still frozen in shock.

Buzz stands by Stretch.

BUZZDo you have anything to say for yourself?

Stretch HUFFS, then nods at Griz, Commander and Magneto.

STRETCHLook at those toys! I am the only good guy in all of them! They're villains!(Beat) And I'm a superhero! I have been trapped in that prison of a closet for decades for crimes I was forced to commit. And day in, day out, I'm dealing with wayward toys that want to turn over a new leaf. Then when you make a friend they are taken from you.(Beat)You try doing that for 20 years without going a little strange.

Jesse walks up to Stretch. He avoids her gaze.

JESSEI am looking that those toys. And I see friends. (Beat)It doesn't matter what they look like on the outside. They have what counts on the inside. And that's what matters. (Beat)I'm sure your owner has changed for the better, too. You're the only one who hasn't.

BUZZI’m sorry, Stretch. But you brought this on yourself.

Stretch struggles, but it does not help. He looks to Hulk.

STRETCHCome on. Can you help a brother out?

HULKSorry. You’re no longer my brother.

Hulk turns his head away. Griz bends over and shows his butt to Stretch. Stretch grimaces.

COMMANDERYou’re dog meat, pal.

BAI pity you, fool.

MAGNETOI’m very disappointed in you, Stretch.

Stretch lowers his head. Hulk and BA pull back on the slingshot.

WOODYRelease on three. One.

WOODY (CONT'D)Two...

STRETCHI’ll be-

WOODYThree!

Stretch finishes the last word, “Back” as he shoots out the window.


We see Stretch fly through the air and land next to Patches. He screams as Patches jumps on him playfully in the snow.

INT. BONNIE'S ROOM - DAY155 155

Woody puts his arm around Buzz as they look out at Patches.

WOODYWe won’t be seeing him anytime soon.

Trixie closes the window and the muffled screams fade away. We hear footsteps coming up the stairs.

WOODY (CONT'D)Places everyone!

The toys scatter. Buzz, Woody and Jesse fall still next to each other. BA, Hulk, Griz, Commander and Magneto jump back in the box. We hear Hulk gasp as he jumps in.

HULKMy tape! Z, you are the man!

Griz and Commander groan, and we hear a high five. Zurg climbs up into the box last, looking back at Buzz. Zurg salutes Buzz.

ZURGFarewell, Buzz Lightyear.

BUZZFarewell?

ZURGI do not believe we are for this room. Perhaps I shall visit sometime.

BUZZYou’re welcome anytime. Goodbye, friend.

Zurg jumps into the box, and the toys fall still as Bonnie enters. Bonnie laughs, picking up Buzz.

BONNIEThere you are, Buzz! Where were you hiding?

Bonnie giggles and extends Buzz's wings. She makes a rocket sound, flying him around the room. She lands him next to Jesse and sits by the box. Her Mom comes in with tape and wrapping paper.

MOMAre you sure, honey?

BONNIEUh-huh.

Mom kisses Bonnie on the head. She wraps the box, and puts a pink bow on it.

MOMWell I think it’s very sweet. Almost as sweet as... say... Ice Cream?

BONNIEYay!

MOMCome on, lets go get Dad. We can get some on the way home.

INT. CAR - NIGHT156 156

We see Jenna's run-down trailer through the car window. Mom and Dad exchange glances, sad and concerned.

MOMThis is the place?

Bonnie looks out the window, and sees Jenna inside, coloring.

BONNIEYep! Can you come with me? It’s dark out.

MOMOf course, honey.

EXT. JENNA'S TRAILER - NIGHT157 157

Bonnie and Mom's feet crunch under the snow as they walk up. Bonnie carries the wrapped box with the pink bow. She tries to reach the doorbell, but can’t. Mom smiles and rings it.

There is a pause.

JENNAWho is it?

BONNIEIt’s me, Jenna, Bonnie!

Jenna opens the door hurriedly, smiling.

JENNAHi Bonnie! Sorry, I’m not supposed to open the door to strangers.

MOMThat’s very responsible of you. Hi, I’m Bonnie’s Mom.

Jenna shakes Mom's hand, smiling. Bonnie holds out the wrapped gift to Jenna, smiling.

BONNIEMerry Christmas, Jenna!

JENNAFor me?

BONNIEUh-huh. Go on, open it!

Jenna tears the paper off in excitement and opens the box. She stares inside, then looks at Bonnie, tearing up.

BONNIE (CONT'D)Now we both have toys to play with.

Mom wipes a tear from her cheek, and sniffs in the cold air. Jenna puts the box down and hugs Bonnie tightly.

JENNAThank you sooo much! I love them! Especially the hairy one! He’s the coolest!

We see the box below, and watch Griz fist pump secretly. We pan out, as the snow falls around Mom and Bonnie.


We pan across the room as they toys unwind.

Hamm and Buttercup play checkers together.

BUTTERCUPSo... Besides that stretchy fellow being shot out of a window, What did I miss?

HAMMAhh, not much. Just a couple burglars breaking in and only us to defend the house.

BUTTERCUPOh. Sounds nice. King me.

HAMMNice. Oh, and what was your new name after your trip?

BUTTERCUPYou know, I decided to keep my name. It’s unique, and has a sense of class.

HAMMI’m happy for you.

We continue.

Chuckles is painting a picture of Bullseye. He has painted himself riding Bullseye. He turns the painting around for approval.

Bullseye neighs and runs over, scooping him up onto his back. Chuckles laughs and Bullseye runs around the room. We move away from them.

Rex and Trixie play a videogame on Bonnie's PC. We do not see the screen. They mash keyboard buttons, and we hear explosions and gunfire.

TRIXIEGet him, get him!

REXI’m trying, I’m trying!

Potato Head is wearing glasses, reading a book to the LGM and Peas In a Pod as they sit around him.

Mrs Potato Head is sitting in a rocking chair. Slinky is at his feet, half listening and half napping.

MR. POTATO HEAD“No Luke,” said Darth Vader. “I am your father!”

The LGM and Peas in a Pod gasp. Potato Head adjusts his glasses. Slinky opens his eyes and shakes his head in disbelief.

SLINKY DOGGolly Bob Howdy!

MR. POTATO HEADBoy! Didn’t see that comin.’

Finally, we pan around to see Buzz and Jesse holding hands, walking on the bed. Woody and Dolly walk with them. Dolly squeezes Woody's hand.

DOLLYThanks for the walk around the house, Woody. It was nice.

WOODYYeah. It was nice.

They stop at the edge, looking around at their friends.

BUZZWell Woody, what do you think is in store for us now?

WOODYI don’t know, Buzz. But whatever it is, I’m glad to have a friend like you beside me. To infinity...

BUZZAnd Beyond.

They smile and look outside.


We see Buzz, Woody Dolly and Jesse as we pan away from the frosted window, up into the snowy night sky.

Mrs. Maven scrubs Mr. M and pets his head. A bubble rises from the bath. We follow it up. Mr. M growls. The bubble pops.
