Geography. We just started collecting images from different towns in Macedonia.

GOSTIVAR

Gostivar is a town located in the upper Polog valley region, Western Macedonia, near Tetovo and Kicevo. It is 80 km. away from Skopje, the capital city. During the Ottoman empire, Gostivar was a village, but today it’s the eight largest town in the country with 81,042 inhabitants. In this beautiful city flows the river Vardar, the biggest river in Macedonia. Near to Gostivar is the village of Vrutok where the Vardar river begins at an altitude of 683 metres (2,241 ft) from the base of the Šar Mountains.

STRUMICA

Strumica is a town situated in the south-east of Macedonia. The population is close to 55,000 with an absolute Macedonian majority (90%). There are all together about 150,000 people living in the region surrounding the city. The city is named after the Strumica river which runs through it.

BITOLA

Bitola (300.000), is the second largest city in Macedonia then Skopje.(Heraclea – ancient town, the old name of Bitola) was founded by Phillip II the father of famous Alexander the Great. This city is located in the southwestern part of Macedonia. It is located in the southern part of the Pelagonia valley, surrounded by the Baba and Nidze mountains. The city is an administrative, cultural, industrial, commercial, and educational centre. It is known from the Ottoman period as "the city of the consuls", as many European countries had consulates in Bitola.

PRILEP

Prilep (66,246 citizens) covers 1.675 square kilometers and is located in the northern Pelagonia Plain, in southern Macedonia.Tobacco is one of Prilep's traditional cash crops and prospers in the Macedonian climate. Many of the world's largest cigarette makers use Prilep's tobacco in their cigarettes after it is processed in local factories.

OHRID

Ohrid is a city on the eastern shore of Lake Ohrid in Macedonia. It has about 42,000 inhabitants, making it the seventh largest town in the country. Ohrid is notable for having 365 churches, one for each day of the year, and is called Macedonian Jerusalem. The city is rich in picturesque houses and monuments, and tourism is predominant. In 1980, Ohrid and Lake Ohrid were accepted as a World Heritage Site and protected by UNESCO.

KRIVA PALANKA

Kriva Palanka is a town located in the northeastern part of Macedonia. It has nearly 21,000 inhabitants. The town lies near the Deve Bair national border crossing with Bulgaria, as such, there is constant heavy traffic passing through the main road which bisects the two sides of the town Deve Bair is considered the main border crossing between Macedonia and Bulgaria because it links the capitals Skopje with Sofia.

KRUSHEVO

Krushevo is a pictorial mountain town. Krushevo is the highest town in the Republic of Macedonia, located at an altitude of 1,350 meters, The town is full of old and more recent houses built in the style of old Macedonian architecture. Krushevo is one of Macedonia’s winter sports destinations. There is a pine forest, surrounding the town and keeping the air cool. It is home to Mechkin Kamen and Makedonium, historical landmarks of the uprising of 1903. On 2 August every year, people from all over the country come there to celebrate the Macedonian Independence Day.

KICEVOKicevo (30,138 inhabitants) is a city in the western part of Macedonia located in a valley in the south-eastern slopes of Mount Bistra, between the cities of Ohrid and Gostivar. The capital Skopje is 112 km away. Important monuments in Kicevo are Saint Bogorodica Precista Monastery (Monastery of Immaculate Mother of God) and another important monument is the monastery of St. George located in the vicinity of Kicevo.

SKOPJE Skopje (800.000) is the capital of Macedonia. Skopje is located in

North-Western Macedonia and it’s a cultural, political, economic center The elevation of 255 meters is above sea level. The city's land area is 1,854 km². It’s a beautiful city because there are many cultural and historic monuments of any periods. The historical monuments are Stone Bridge (Roman period), St.Pantelejmon (Slavic period), The Great Tower (Macedonian and Byzantine period), Daut Pasha Am am (Turkish period), Skopje is a Ancient city and it’s very old. The Vardar River flows through the city and the rest of the country, passing the border into Greece and flowing into the Aegean Sea. The city experiences a continental climate, with warm summers and cool winters.
