Red Cross Swim Preschool (4 months-5 years)This eight-level program allows your children to enter levels based on their age and ability: x During levels 1 to 3, a parent or caregiver participates

in the classes with their children. x Levels 4 to 8 are unparented: the children are with the

WHERE DO I PUT ALL THIS SNOW?

The snow looks pretty on your lawn, but snow on sidewalks and roadways can make it difficult to get around town safely.

Town bylaw requires home and business owners to clear snow and ice from the sidewalks within 48 hours of a snowfall (Bylaw 01/2009).

While you’re out there, why not clear your neighbour’s walk too?

Home owners: Remember to shovel snow onto your lawn, not onto public property: roads, alleys or pathways. It’s especially important not to make large piles on the road to accommodate parking.

Snow on the roads impedes storm water flow, reduces visibility and makes street sweeping difficult in the spring.

Business owners: Please instruct snow removal contractors to deposit snow removed from parking lots and sidewalks onto private property, not public property: roads, alleys or pathways.

In the kitchen• Turn pot or pan handles in to prevent spilled pots and burns.• Wear short or close-fitting sleeves when cooking.• Keep flammable materials — curtains, newspapers or

plastic bags — away from heat.• Have a pot lid nearby to smother a pan fire; never use water

on a grease fire.• Keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen.

Decorative lights• Use only indoor lights used indoors; outdoor lights only outdoors. • Make sure lights are CSA or ULC approved (check the packaging).• Examine each string of lights for wear and damage; unplug to

make replacements.• Run outdoor cords above the ground to keep them clear

of snow and water.• Do not overload electrical outlets.

Candles• Place away from trees and other flammable items.• Extinguish all candles before leaving the room or going to sleep.

HOLIDAY FIRE SAFETYFrom decorating the tree to cooking a feast, fire safety should be a priority during the holidays. Here are some tips to help everyone be safer during the holidays, and all year.
