ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
World Baseball Academy has a unique history that has helped position this organization for some great things to come!
The founder, Caleb Kimmel, is a homegrown native of Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 2000, while still in college, Kimmel worked alongside his father in forming Between The Lines,
LLC that served as the event planner for the annual Hoosier Classic Summer Baseball Tournaments. After graduating college in 2003, Kimmel expanded Between The Lines by
beginning to add baseball instructional programs to complement the established tournaments.
In December of 2003, Between The Lines became a tenant at the Tahcumwah Facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It was in that same year some dynamic leadership crossed paths.
Steve Sotir, the former Director of Player Development for the International Baseball Federation (IBAF), had become a key administrative leader within Southwest Allen County
School systems. However, Sotir had never really had the opportunity to utilize his unique baseball background while residing in Fort Wayne. Kimmel and Sotir began to envision
what could happen if established quality event planners partnered up with the international experts within the game. It was in those brainstorming sessions that the World
Baseball Academy emerged. Sotir brought in the leadership of Dr. Darin Van Tassell and Larry Bryant—key international baseball leaders who all have had a great impact on the
growth of the game globally. Van Tassell, a professor of International Studies, was the Baseball Competition Director of the 2008 Olympics Baseball Games in Beijing. Bryant is
a professor of health. These three men met at Georgia Southern University during their playing days and early college coaching days.
In 2007, these four leaders began to develop plans that combined the well-established local baseball programming in Fort Wayne with international opportunities around the world.
Van Tassell, Bryant and Sotir created the name “World Baseball Academy” to capture the essence of utilizing the game of baseball to develop leaders. “Academy” represents the
concept of being a student of the game. “Baseball” is the platform by which we can get the attention of young people, build a relationship with them, and educate them on the
fundamentals of the sport and of life. “World” captures the essence of our global vision.
In 2008, The World Baseball Academy, Inc became an official 501(c)3 nonprofit with the focus of developing leaders through the game of baseball. As the vision progressed,
World Baseball Academy replaced Between The Lines as a primary baseball tenant at the Academy of Sports & Health (ASH) Centre (formerly called "Tahcumwah"). In 2012,
World Baseball Academy consolidated with another nonprofit to become the owners and operators of the ASH Centre, a 26-acre campus located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 2016,
World Baseball Academy completed a major renovation to the indoor campus with plans to completely transform the outdoor campus in the spring of 2017. As of today, World
Baseball Academy, Inc is an established organization that is serving nearly 5,000 young people on an annual basis while making a substantial economic and social impact on the
community of Fort Wayne!

Able to multi-task, managing various areas of the tournament event(s)
Basic knowledge of fiscal control and budgeting of tournaments
Seasonal Weekend / Evening Hours in Spring/Summer/Fall
Manual labor of outdoor facility involved

MANAGEMENT ASSISTANCE
Tournaments (April – Oct)
o Assisting with tournament administrative details as needed
Scheduling, contacting coaches prior to event,
preparing pre-tournament packets for coaches, etc.
Support Role within WBA work projects and work days (On Occasion)
Support Role within in management of indoor facilities (Nov – March)
Support role within WBA Internship program
BASEBALL INSTRUCTION
September - March
Assist with following WBA instructional programs:
o At-Risk Scholarship Programming (Part of Role)
o Annual Eric Wedge Baseball Camps (Part of Role)
If available and skill sets align:
o Group Programming (Additional Compensation)
o Personal Baseball Instruction (Additional Compensation)
MARKETING ASSISTANCE
Tournaments (August – March)
o Working with CEO and Director of Operations on the growth
strategy, vision, and collaborative partners associated with
Tournaments.
o Sales Calls to potential participating teams
o Negotiation with Regional and/or National Event Planners
o Social Media strategy on promotion of tournaments.

Fields & Tournament Scheduling
o Help coordinate with area sites needs prior, during, and post
tournament

the start of their first game, then info as needed after that
o When weather occurs, rescheduling/adjusting schedule
commonly occurs
o Coordinate with umpires for weather/re-scheduling needs
Conflict Resolution
o Positively interact and assist in conflict resolution within
tournament atmosphere
o Maintain positive speech at all times
Management of Tournament Staff o Manage Admissions staff
o Manage Concession staff
o Manage Tournament Site Directors
o Monitor hours of all tournament staff
Note: Director of Operations will support the efforts of
training the part-time positions listed above.

SALARY / BENEFITS / INCENTIVES Position: Tournament Director
Reports To: Andy McManama, Director of Operations
The Tournament Director of World Baseball Academy will oversee the execution of the Hoosier Classic Tournaments. This person will function as the
leader of the tournament staff and will manage the event(s) from start to finish.
Aside from oversight of the seasonal tournaments, the Tournament Director will be involved in WBA baseball programming, facility management &
marketing assistance. This position will include various roles that are designed to work within an annual 2,000 hour schedule for a full-time position.
The Tournament Director will have a real advantage by having Andy McManama and Caleb Kimmel (CEO) as a strong support for the Tournament
Director with an emphasis on executing events with excellence.
A humble and hard-working demeanor is essential to the success of the Tournament Director position and s/he will be most effective by continuing to
grow the image and positive reputation of the organization within the Fort Wayne community.
Full-Time Position: Negotiable Salary (Based on experience and skills sets)
