Tourism of Masaya

The central city of Masaya is an important cultural destination due to latent popular

folkloric expressions that originated there, like dance, music, street theater and

colorful processions.

Masaya Volcano National Park and the lagoon of the same name, are twonatural attractions of outstanding scenic beauty. The volcano consists of two

extinct craters and one asset that is always flowing smoke, surrounded by a

vast territory that retains its wild flora and fauna. This volcano has been

closely linked to popular beliefs and the panish missionaries considered it

!"ell#s $ate!, placing a great cross in its summit to prevent the exit of the

devil.

The %aguna de &poyo Nature 'eserve, consists of the largest crater lake in

the country and its high slopes that surround it, which in some sectors,

preserve part of the forest. (n the coast, there are summer cottages orhouses, plus some restaurants, hotels and shops that offer options for

kayaking, snorkeling or swimming. &ll 'eserve is shared by several

municipalities in Masaya and $ranada, and at various points of the peaks,

there are beautiful viewpoints.

The )oyotepe *ortress, built at early twentieth century, was declared a

of several battles in the history of Nicaragua, highlighting the famous battle

of )oyotepe between 0 and 3 (ctober +-+4.

)atarina5s %ookout is one of the most visited and popular tourist destinations

of Nicaragua. "ighlighted by many nurseries of various plants, that can be

appreciated in its nice town. This is the highest point in the urban area of the

village, allowing it to have a pleasant climate. The view is wonderful, you

can observe the crater of the &poyo %agoon, Mombacho Volcano, $ranada
