10. Tian Mu 天母TianMu is a district located between the Shilin district and Yangmingshan (Yang Ming mountain). Back in the 1950’s, Tianmu was the desired residence for American servicemen. The rice paddies and fresh air offered a peaceful retreat from bustling Taipei. The Taipei American School was started at this time and is still a centerpiece of the area. (And one of the top International schools worldwide.)

9. ATT 4 Fun Shopping Mall ATT 4 Fun (previously known as New York, New York) is an 11 floor shopping center located amidst the tony East District of Taipei City. ATT 4 Fun is a short walking distance from Taipei 101, Mitsukoshi and Bellavita.What makes this busy mall unique it that it doesn’t cater to the typical high end designer labels. You can go to Taipei 101 and Bellavita for that.

8. Xi Men Ding “she-men-ding” 西門町Xi Men Ding is a hip, busy, open aired street shopping area where Taiwan’s youth shop, eat, and just hang out. Ximending is a pedestrian mall filled with little shops, food stalls, and restaurants that can meet just about anyone’s fancy. It’s the old west gate area of Taipei.

7. Zhong Xiao Dong Lu (Zhong Xiao East Road) 忠孝東路Zhong Xiao East Road (at the intersection of Fu Xing Nan Road) is the shopping street of Taipei. It’s busy most days with the work crowd, tourists, and shoppers and on weekends there is non-stop bustle until the evenings.

6. Xinyi District Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store 信義區新光三越The Xinyi District is home to Bellavita, Taipei 101, the 24 hour Eslite, ATT and a host of other shopping choices. It’s a busy open spaced area that’s great for walking, eating, window shopping, or people watching.

5. Breeze Center Mall 微風廣場Breeze Center is up there with Bellavita as one of Taipei's swankiest malls.  The mall is nine stories and includes most of the high fashion name brands ubiquitous in Taipei.

There is everything from a Starbucks, Taipei's Dean & Deluca, and a deli and supermarket in the basements levels.

4. Shi Lin Night Market 士林夜市This is Taipei's largest and most famous night market and it's just opposite the red line Jian Tan MRT stop. The street has gone through many locations in the past years. Back in the day, it was a long windy street full of vendors. As the area grew, the market consolidated into an open aired covered area with a grid design.

3. Raohe Night Market 饒河夜市 Taipei's oldest night market in the heart of downtown Taipei. The section of street is only 600 meters long. The Song Shan Fu De Temple (Land God temple) sits at one opening of the street which represents one end of the market. 

Raohe is predominantly food. There is sitting in the center of the street while shoppers walk in each direction along the sides. It's not a huge market, but it has an old school charm.

2. Taipei 101 Mall The Taipei 101 Mall is 6 floors of stores and food options in Taiwan's tallest building. Located in the Xinyi District, the mall is a must see for visitors and shoppers. 

Floors 1-5 are loaded with top international brand stores and boutiques. The 5th floor also is surrounded by several sit down restaurants with great views of the city. B1 is a large food court full of many Asian and Western choices. It's also home to Jason's gourmet supermarket.

1. Bellavita Shopping Mall 寶麗廣塲Arguably Taipei's most decorative and fashionable shopping space. Even if you're not a shopper, the mall is worth a walk through. It's host to the finest name brand stores (Bottega Veneta, Bvlgari, Gucci, Tiffany, Tod's) as well as a variety of international and swanky boutiques.

Find someone to talk to. You have three minutes to ask as many or as few questions as you like, but you should each take turns asking and answering.

After three minutes, tell your partner three things that you remember from your conversation.
