Touring record stores is a fantastic way to see a city, the journey between the shops often ferreting out locales you wouldn’t ordinarily find.

DIGGIN’SYDNEY

Vinyl Lovers TourGuide

This initiative made possiblewith the assistance from:

Starting at the city’s centre, Town Hall, walk North from Adventure Store Alley, up to the financial district, with its many hidden small bars and King Street Wharf on the harbour. Next off is Kings Cross. You can catch the train one stop from Martin Place if you’re in a hurry, but if you’re keen for a stroll, there’s a stunning 20 minute walk you can take cutting through Macquarie Street into the Domain. Go in between the Art Gallery and Botanic Gardens and down into Wooloomooloo Bay. From there it’s the Heritage listed McElhone stairs into Potts point. Here begins your walk of the East Sydney Ridge. From Macleay Street, through Victoria St, to Crown St, you’ve got 4 kilometres of independent retail, food, drink, small bars, clubs and restaurants. Finally, a short jaunt down Devonshire Street and underneath Central station will take you into China/Korea/Thai Town to finish your vinylicious loop.

Visit the true Bohemian heart of Sydney otherwise known as the Inner West. Starting at the end of Newtowns famed King Street you will meander through antique, fashion and strange retail shops. Guaranteed you will never see a corporate logo on this vibrant strip. As you make your way into Newtown a sharp right turn will take you into Erskineville, some say a suburb time forgot. A great place to stop and have a beer in one of the many pubs on the main street. Heading back to king street you will get city glimpses as you approach the university. Cut through the park and opposite is the suburb of Glebe. Glebe Point Road is a great place to ease the hunger, with literally 50 restaurants to choose from, your tastebuds will thank you for making a stop. Heading west along Parramatta Rd the grittiness of the city will become apparent. Look out for graffiti, because it’s actively encouraged by local councils in this area. Once your tour is finished it’s just a short bus ride bac k to Central Railway.
