It is a historical place where Emperor Menelik II resided and built his palace when he came from Ankober and founded Addis Ababa. It is considered a sacred mountain and has many monasteries. It is situated at an altitude of between 2,600 and 3,100 meters. You will have a magnificent view of the city. Then, you will drive to the National Museum. The museum houses the nation’s artistic treasures as well as many of the most precious archaeological finds such as the fossilized remains of early hominids, the most famous of which is “Lucy,” the partial skeleton of a specimen of Australopithecus afarensis. The well-known Lucy is said to be 3.2 million years old.

After visiting the museum, you will drive to Trinity cathedral Church. This church is the highest ranking Orthodox cathedral in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It was built to commemorate Ethiopia’s liberation from Italian occupation and is the second most important place of worship in Ethiopia, after the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion in Axum.

Shortly after having your lunch and a little refreshment, you will head to the enthralling Ethnological museumset within Haile Selassie’s former palace which is surrounded by the beautiful gardens and fountains of Addis Ababa University’s main campus. Even if you’re not normally a museum fan, this one is worth a bit of your time – it’s easily one of the finest museums in Africa. Later, you drive to Mercato and visit the largest open market in Africa. Mercato is known to cover several square miles and employing an estimated 13,000 people in 7,100 business entities. The primary merchandise passing through Merkato is locally-grown agricultural products - most notably coffee. Finally, you will be transferred to your place. Overnight your own arrangement.

Following will be “Debarq” the pin point or headquarters of the park, where you will be assigned a scout. Once the scout has been designated, you will be driven to “BuyitRas” view point. Once there, the trek will commence and will end at “Chilqwanit”, the following view point, where the car will be waiting for you arrived ahead of your finish (the average duration of the trek is approximately an hour). From “Chilqwanit” a drive to “Sanqaber” (view point) is next. Then from “Sanqaber” to “JimbarFalls”. A picnic lunch usually takes place at “Jimbar Falls”, however, it can also take place at any view point of your choice from “Chilqwanit”, “Sanqaber” or “Jimbar Falls”. Once arrived, and checked into your hotel, your first destination will be Lake Tana. It is the largest lake in Ethiopia with a size of 3,600 km2 / 2,282 m2; it is also the source of the Blue Nile. There are also 37 islands dotted around the lake, of which 20 shelter monasteries believed to have existed since the 14th century. These islands also hold vast Ancient Ethiopian history, as well as artifacts of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and are also burial sites for certain former Emperors of the Ethiopian Empire. The island you will visit holds the coveted monastery “UraKidaneMehert”. Later you will drive to the waterfalls of “Tis Isat” also known as the Blue Nile falls (please keep in mind that due to the construction of the new dam being built within the vicinity, the water levels could be very minimal). Day 02: Drive Semein - Gondar // SightseeingMorning after having breakfast, you will drive to back to Gondar, the city that once was the royal capital of the Ethiopian Empire. Founded in 1636 by the Emperor Fassiledes. From castles to churches, the medieval city is adorned by medieval styled infrastructure that was constructed by the Emperor along with his descendants. Visits will also include, the Fassiledes Castle along with the Fassiledes Bath. Once thought to be the grand swimming pool of the Emperor, now known as Fassiledes Bath, is used as a baptism site. It symbolizes the holy waters of the river Jordan, Israel where Jesus Christ was baptized, where each year on 19 January during Timket (Epiphany), hundreds bath in these waters to get christened. Later you will visit the “Debre Birhan Selassie Church” a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was built in the late 18th century by Iyasu I, the grandson of the Emperor Fassiledes, where its walls and ceilings are adorned with rows among rows of winged cherubs that represent the omnipresence of God. AXUM ROUTE TOUR PROGRAMDURATION: 01 NIGHTS / 02 DAYS

TRASPORTATION: FLIGHT + SURFACEDay 01: Fly Addis Ababa - AxumThis morning, you will be transferred to the airport to catch your flight from Addis Ababa to Axum. Once arrived, and checked into your hotel, later you will explore Axum. The first attraction will be the “Stele Park”. These Steles are famed granite obelisks, thought to be built in either late B.C. or early A.D., that have gained a “UNESCO World Heritage Site” status. The tallest stele is at about 23 m /75 ft. tall. Unfortunately, there was once a period where the tallest stele was actually 33 m /108 ft. tall and weighed a colossal 500 tons. Also known as “The Great Stele”, it remains today broken into six different pieces. This park also contains a museum. The tour will be followed by the visit of “King Kaleb’s Palace and tomb”. After the visit to the King’s palace, after having your Lunch you will visit the ruins of the “Queen of Sheba’s Palace” thought to be the oldest building in Axum. Followed by the “Tomb of Bazen”, a King though to be born during the period of Jesus Christ. Next will be “Mariam Tsion Church”. Within that, vicinity will be the “Sanctuary Chapel”, which is supposedly the repository of the Ark of the Covenant and then the “Coronation Yard”. Once done with the tour, drive back to the hotel.
