ITINERARY

PRE-TOURAugust 18 - Depart USA

August 19 - Arrive in OsloThis afternoon you will fly to Oslo, Norway. Upon arrival check in to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

August 20 - Norwegian FjordsGet an early start to Oslo Central Station for the start of your scenic journey on the Bergen Railway. This train ride, voted as one of the best in the world, takes you over the “mountainous rooftop” of Norway and through charming villages like Gol and and Geilo on your way towards Bergen. At Myrdal, switch to the Flåm Railway for an incredible 20 km ride with a 900-metre descent to the beautiful town of Flåm. Here, you have about 45 minutes of free time, which you may wish to use by learning about the history of the world’s steepest train line at the Flåm Railway Documentation Centre. From Flåm, continue by boat through the Aurlandsfjord and into the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Nærøyfjord, the narrowest fjord in Europe. This is perhaps the most beautiful part of the Sognefjord  with its mighty waterfalls and small farms clinging to the steep mountainsides. At Gudvangen, a bus takes you through the magnificent Nærøy Valley to Voss, the connection point for the final train ride to Bergen. Spend the night at a hotel in Bergen.

August 21 - BergenSpend the first half of the day as you wish in Bergen, the “Capital of the Fjords”. Though this is Norway’s second largest city, it still has the charming atmosphere of a small town and your hotel in the city centre makes a great starting point for visiting the main attractions. Here you’ll find the old wharf of Bryggen—a UNESCO World Heritage site, along with well preserved old houses, the vibrant fish and flower market, the Fløibanen funicular with great views and many museums. In the afternoon, make your way to the central station for your return train ride to Oslo, where you’ll spend the night after your late evening arrival.

August 22 - Depart Oslo & Arrive in CopenhagenDepart Oslo this morning and arrive in Copenhagen this afternoon. Time permitting, visit the Little Mermaid statue and enjoy a canal cruise around the city on your way to the pier. Embark on the Adventure of the Seas this afternoon and prepare to journey through Scandinavia and Russia.

Norway Pre-TourAugust 18-22 - $1598*

August 21 & 22 - Depart USA & Arrive CopenhagenYou will arrive in Copenhagen, Denmark where you will be met by our representative and transferred to the port to board the Adventure of the Seas.

August 23 - At Sea

August 24 - Stockholm, SwedenGain a deeper understanding of Stockholm, a city with seven centuries of history on this extended guided tour. Explore Old Town’s Great Square, the outside of majestic Stockholm Cathedral and the grand Gold and Blue Rooms of City Hall. Marvel at the restored 17th-century Vasa warship. See the modern business and shopping area, the Neo-Classical Stock Exchange and the Art Nouveau-style Royal Dramatic Theater. Follow your own path with free time to shop or relax in a cafe.

August 25 - Helsinki & Porvoo, FinlandDiscover Finland’s capital and Porvoo, its second-oldest city. You’ll visit Rock Church and Senate Square, site of Helsinki’s iconic Lutheran Cathedral, and see Market Square, Finlandia Hall, Olympic Stadium, the Presidential Palace, the Opera House, Parliament, the National Museum and Kiasma Museum. Enjoy lunch at Kiala Manor before visiting Porvoo’s Old Town, with free time to explore and a stop at the Old Bridge for photos of riverfront storehouses, Town Hall and the 15th-century cathedral.

August 26 & 27 - St. Petersburg, RussiaMake the most of every minute in St. Petersburg with a comprehensive, two-day tour delivering the best this beautiful, historic city has to offer. Tour magnificent czars’ palaces, exquisite gardens, the world-famous Amber Room, the iconic Hermitage museum, onion-domed churches and so much more — up to nine stops total. You’ll also spend more time ashore, 10 hours per day, with a delicious, typical Russian lunch. What’s more, two well-informed, engaging guides join each bus, imparting their knowledge of the area as well as its rich history.

DAY 1: Begin with a cruise of St. Petersburg’s waterways, passing magnificent palaces, mansions and cathedrals. Then explore the inside of Yusupov palace, one of Europe’s most lavish estates. This huge riverside estate was home of the Yusupov family, as wealthy as the tsars in the 19th century. Tour their grand halls, art collection and an exhibit about the 1916 palace murder of imperial advisor Grigori Rasputin. Afterwards, pay a visit to St. Isaac’s Cathedral to marvel at the dome decorated with 200 pounds of gold. Its vast interior is filled with hundreds of impressive 19th-century works of art. After a multicourse lunch at a local restaurant, venture deep inside the Hermitage, housing 3 million-plus items. Continue to the Church of Resurrection on the Spilled Blood, a spectacular, Russian-style multicolored, onion-domed church.

DAY 2: Discover Catherine Palace in Pushkin, one of the most splendid summer residences of the Russian tsars and considered one of the masterpieces of world architecture. Marvel at the grand halls and private chambers. The Amber Room was once dubbed the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” Then stroll the exquisite gardens, 1,400 acres dotted with charming pavilions set around the central lake. After a typical multicourse Russian lunch at a local restaurant, venture to Peterhof, one of the summer residences of the royal family. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Peterhof is located 18 miles away from St. Petersburg on the Gulf of Finland. Tour immense terraced gardens featuring sculptures, numerous pavilions and intricately shaped foot-bridges. See more than 150 fountains and four cascades — all gravity-fed. Imagine the sun intermingling with the thousands of water sprays, revealing all colors of the rainbow. Don’t miss the famous baroque Grand Cascade, with its three waterfalls and an avenue of fountains and gilt statues. Then drive across the Neva River and view the Spit of Vasilievsky Island, flanked by two rostral columns stopping for a tour of the early-18th-century Peter and Paul Fortress. Within the fortress is Peter and Paul Cathedral, an ornate 18th-century church situated at the highest point of the city and also the burial place of the tsars.
