It’s all about stickers in our house. We have

sticker charts to help with behaviour and we use them to make birthday cards so we were really excited when The Sticker Club offered us a trial subscription. The excite-ment when my little one got an envelope addressed to HIM through the post, containing stickers, was on a par with Christmas! He opened his envelope carefully and has been counting and hoarding his stickers ever since. You are honoured if your card has one of these on! He must really like you. The company sends packs of different stickers weekly for £1.99 or a month’s worth is £7.99, a great gift! Find them at www.thestickerclub.com

In this edition of the magazine we have not one, but two competitions for family tickets to see The Octonauts live show and The Tiger Who Came to Tea. Our What’s On

is as comprehensive as ever. Plus if your New Year resolu-tions are wavering or have disappeared we have some wise words from fitness pro-fessional and very fit mama Dr Jo Helcke.

YOU are expecting me to shout “NEW YEAR NEW YOU” at you, aren’t you? Yes, well you’re right to be suspicious. I specialise in health and fitness and this is the time of year when we’re all thinking about transforming ourselves on all fronts, not just physi-cal. We secretly vow to eat well (or deprive ourselves), exercise regu-larly (or pound the streets in fluo-rescent lycra and driving rain), and be more organised (buy one of those “Mum’s family desk plan-ners). Does that ring a few Janu-ary bells?Well I’m no different. I’m a mum who has attempted to start over and be supermum, then burned out by February. Not a good plan really. What about the remaining 11 months of the year? So we need ideas to help us. In Sep-tember last year I decided to get ahead of the game on all fronts: managing moth-erhood, career aspirations, eating for wellbe-ing, fitness for health – the lot! It was a case of putting strategies in place and tweaking them until everything was running smoothly and nothing – no, not even Christmas – was going to derail me. It worked, is working. The good news is, what works in September, also works in January. One of the key problems with the whole January “thing” is the all or nothing approach. By anyone’s stan-dards, it is being tough on ourselves, and the harsher the approach the more likely we are to fall by the wayside. Now be honest, are you using January for personal rein-vention on all fronts? Are you simultaneously attempting to tackle your fitness levels, eating habits, organisational skills, career progression, and internal family dynamics (think “stubborn toddler”)? If so, that’s quite a list.In one way, you are right, they are all interlinked. Create an imbalance in one area and it will put everything else out of kilter, so we do need an holistic approach to our lives. Fitness cannot exist in isolation. Likewise the “we are what we eat” mantra is only true up to a point. We are also what we do and how we feel. How we feel is the crux of it all. If you are currently in the midst of a New Year New You life makeover, how are you feeling? Energised? Cool, calm and in control? Focused on a clear pathway - aiming straight for your aspirational bull’s eye? Let me hazard a guess: you’re feeling hungry, ravenous, and chocolate-filled thoughts are invading your every moment, especially towards the end of the after-noon? You are determined to run three times a week be-cause “it is good for me and I will lose weight” but, oh, how you wish you were working out somewhere bright, warm and friendly? Does any of that sound familiar? If so, it’s time to have a rethink and come up with a for-mula that’s going to work, not just in January, but Febru-

ary, March and onwards. So let’s revisit January right now:

Are you enjoying the way you are eating at the moment? If not, start off by ban-

ishing the whole concept of “dieting” from your life and focus instead on

food that is a) tasty and b) con-tains loads of the “good stuff ”. You don’t need me to tell you what the “good stuff ” is: the nutrients, the vitamins, the good fats, the wholegrains, the unprocessed, the home cooked, you know it all. You’ll feel liberated once you’ve freed your mind of diets and you can start focusing sim-

ply on good, balanced food that leaves you feeling satiated, nour-

ished and full of vitality. Having got the outdated concept

of “dieting” out of the way, you can now look at fitness. I know I keep sug-

gesting running is a terrible chore. Well, I have a confession: I honestly can’t stand

running which is why I don’t do it! The ques-tion you should ask yourself is: Are you enjoying

your chosen form of 2015 exercise? Do you look forward to it? Do you get that excited feeling in your tummy, like butterflies, before setting out to do your exercise routine? I do! I LOVE it, I look forward to it and it gives me a huge buzz! Result? Sticking to it is no hardship. Now don’t mis-take this for “easy”. The exercise I do is tough, really tough, but I do what I genuinely love. So now take a look at what you are doing. If dancing is your passion then don’t do cir-cuits round the gym. You need a dance class! Do salsa, or perhaps join an online ballet subscription. Love running? Well keep at it and give yourself some goals like 5k, 10k or half marathon races. Whatever lights your fitness fire! Lastly let’s tackle the mummy side of things because the fitness and the food aren’t going to work if you don’t get this bit right. Motherhood is about juggling countless tasks and more often than not, we put our own needs behind everyone else’s because we’re mums. Your 2015 mission is to find a system that works for you and allows you to carve out weekly space to achieve all you aspire to. My system in-cludes daily lists strategically numbered in order of impor-tance, weekly batch cooks and a kind of “dream board” on my wall with my key goals in the centre and around them, everything I think I need to do to achieve these goals.Oh and that “Mum’s Family desk Planner” I mentioned earlier? It’s part of my system too. Not entirely foolproof, I admit forgetting the odd “dress in your own clothes day” for school but still pretty good!

New year new strategy

For more information on Trostisar please visit our website. www.trostisar.co.uk

Trostisar is an imaginative range of healthcare and toy products to soothe and comfort children from an early age. Trostisar are magical characters, who comfort and spread love. They don't judge or compare and are very curious of what children are afraid of!

The exclusive product range includes our cuddly plasters, which are soft velvety plasters which adhere to normal plasters or straight onto the skin to calm and soothe. They are available in our 6 Trostisar characters and also the ever popular Angry Birds. Our night-time plasters feature a glow-in-the-dark heart which fades gently as your child falls asleep to help ease fears of the darkness.

Our award winning Bumpsicle is a re-fillable ice pack which can be used to soothe a sore, bump, sting or bite and can then be opened up to be eaten as an ice-pop.

Our Gentle Sleep Range includes BedBlocks, making it easy for parents to raise the pillow end of the cot when a child has cold or colic. Children love our cute cuddle blankets and soft toys of our characters and can easily relate to them and their protective powers.
