With technologies such as 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT) on the cusp of mainstream adoption, so too will this challenge only escalate. Data proliferation is set to continue taking place at exponential levels, and keeping sensitive information safe will become an even more integral part of the CIOs role – our own research found that 84 per cent of senior European IT decision makers believe unauthorised use of IT systems is endemic within their organisation.2

Toshiba Mobile Zero Client (TMZC) helps to eliminate a significant cause for concern in this respect – from the device threat. By removing data from the device, instead storing it centrally and making it accessible via a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), TMZC provides the perfect balance of ultra-secure and ultra-productive mobile working. Employees are able to work unhindered no matter where they are, while at the same time the risk of data breaches through malware or lost and stolen devices is nullified.

What is it? Toshiba Mobile Zero Client (TMZC) is a clientless solution

that empowers your staff to work on the move, while following all of your security regulations.

TMZC supports all major VDI solutions, including Citrix and VMware, which means getting started is easy, and there’s no need to alter your infrastructure. So you get all the benefits of a zero client solution, with lower installation costs, improved security and higher return on investment

The benefits of a smartly-executed mobility strategy are well-documented, from improving workflows and productivity to delivering more cost-effective operations. Yet IT managers are equally well-versed in the security challenges such a strategy brings, in particular as they look to successfully balance the aforementioned benefits with growing threats from data-hunting cyber-criminals.

Thin or Zero client solutions • Mainly desktop PCs, which require dedicated

purchase of displays. and more.

• Staff have to use their own devices —and if this isn’t possible. they can’t work from home.

• Every workplace looks the same with a desktop PC standard display and accessories Meeting rooms also need to be equipped with additional devices.

• Compatible with either Citrix or VMware and no later change is possible.

• Generically produced, requiring extensive configuration, setup and on-going Management and Maintenance

• Offers limited connectivity and functionality.

• Requires re-configuration and technical intervention to update.

• Vulnerable to malware due to its local storage and USB drive.

Why Toshiba Mobile Zero Client is unique:

Last year saw over four billion data records lost or stolen worldwide according to IBM – a yearly increase of more than 550 per cent.1

How does it work? • Power on: User powers on the device,

connecting to the LAN or Wi-Fi, with the option of having this pre-configured

• Boot permission: Device requests boot permission from Toshiba Boot Control Service*

• System Modules download: When boot permission is granted, your encrypted System Modules package is downloaded and unpacked in the RAM

• Ready to go: Your Big Core, with Linux and the VDI client, is executed – establishing its connection to your VDI server

Why is it important?• Give your people the freedom to get things done

anywhere, and they’ll be even more motivated and productive

• GDPR – Europe’s new Data Protection Regulation threatens severe penalties for organisations which fail to comply. TMZC removes compliance concerns around the device fleet, allowing the focus to be on the wider infrastructure• Rise of ransomware – Cybersecurity Ventures projects

global ransomware damage to exceed $11.5 billion in costs by 2019. TMZC nullifies the threat from this device-targeting malware at a time of growing cyber-hazards

Given the sensitive nature of the data in question, TMZC is an essential component in guaranteeing the security of this information, while at the same time ensuring medical care staff can perform their roles in the mobile capacity increasingly required within the healthcare sector today.

By placing data under central storage and management rather than at a device-level, it remains accessible in the most secure way possible, meaning that care workers can receive and react to data in real-time even when visiting other patients in secondary locations, be that via home visits or at other medical facilities.

Within the healthcare sector, IoT is having a significant impact in changing the relationship between provider and patient – delivering a digital transformation which provides better customer services, and ultimately better care.

One UK healthcare provider is ushering in this new era with the goal of creating wellness, rather than managing it – using technology to pre-emptively recognise and diagnose symptoms, and prevent illness ahead of time rather than reacting to it. To achieve this, it has implemented Toshiba Mobile Zero Client (TMZC). The organisation is using IoT solutions as an enabler of information being both delivered to, and attained from, the citizen. This in turn increases the ability to predict health through profiling and monitoring, and enables the delivery of targeted and tailored healthcare information to the citizen to aid in effecting better health.
