After a very tough last quarter in 2009 it was good to get away over the traditional N.Z Christmas holidays and re-charge the batteries for the new year. There seems to be just a little hint that our markets may be on the improve and we are looking forward to 2010 with some confidence. For TransDiesel Ltd 2010 has started off with a hiss and a roar and of course one of the first things you will notice is the changed branding for this edition of Torque It Up. Last year we worked with Mr Smith, our Auckland based advertising agency to refresh our branding and over the next year or so you will notice some changes in how we represent our company at the various different touch points we have with our customers and suppliers. Our objective in our rebranding process was to simplify how our brand interacts with the product brands we represent and hopefully allow a platform from which they can shine without being detrimental to our own company brand. We think that the end result Mr Smith has developed is, while a subtle change, an excellent result and just raises the bar in terms of the look and feel of our brand. In the next few months you will start to see changes in our website, signage, documentation and corporate clothing as we roll the changes through the business. The other major development this year is our move into the Australian market through the acquisition of International Machinery Services, effective from the 31st of March. IMS has built a good business as the Dressta bulldozer dealer for Queensland and has branches in Brisbane and Rockhampton. As the NZ distributor for Dressta the acquisition of IMS gives us the Australasian distribution for the Dressta product. In addition to the Dressta product our plan is to use this business as our base to re- launch Terex construction equipment into Queensland. We have been discussing opportunities to represent Terex in Australia for some time and the purchase of IMS is a good way for us to get started . The business will be called Terrequipe Pty Ltd which is the same brand we use in our New Caledonia operation and has the added benefit of more accurately reflecting our focus on earth moving equipment. WORD FROM THE TOP TORQUE-IT-UP APRIL 2010 ISSUE 26 This is a very exciting move in the life of TransDiesel and while we are under no illusions about how difficult it will be to get going in Australia we are confident that we have the capacity and experience in these product lines to be successful. With the growth forecasts for Queensland and Australia in the coming years we will be well placed to capitalize on the opportunities. I look forward to reporting back on our progress as we move ahead with our plans. Mike McKessar. Chief Executive Officer WHALE WATCH & AGIP IN FULL FLOW. CRUISING ABOARD MV SINBAD IN MILFORD SOUND. A new luxurious Real Journeys cruise vessel began service in late 2009 providing tourists with a premium cruise experience in the stunning Milford Sound. The $2.5 million purpose-built monohull vessel MV Sinbad, which is used for tourist nature cruises, features a luxurious interior, expansive glass windows and both internal and exterior observation decks. Carrying a maximum of 75 passengers, the vessel’s smaller size ensures visitors enjoy a personalised experience. This is Real Journeys fifth new vessel launched in Fiordland in the past nine years. The purpose-built 21-metre MV Sinbad, named after Sinbad Gully in Milford Sound, replaces an existing vessel and comes with improved layout and visibility. The vessel is powered by two MTU 14-litre Series 60, six cylinder inline marine diesel engines rated to 375 bhp at 1800rpm, supplied by TransDiesel Ltd. It is designed to have a cruising speed of 11.5 knots. Following a detailed analysis across several different engine brands for the application Real Journeys decided on the MTU Series 60 for several key benefits, excellent fuel economy, low maintenance costs, long time between overhauls and the back up and support of TransDiesel. Coupled to the engines are two twin disc MGX5114 Quickshift Marine Transmissions with a 3:1reduction ratio. On board power is provided by 2 x Perkins Sabre 4.4GM, 40kva, three phase, marine gensets in sound enclosed boxes, also supplied from Transdiesel Ltd. Constructed in marine aluminium the vessel has a fuel capacity of 5,000 litres and a water capacity of 2,400 litres. The propellers are 1 metre in diameter and combing this with the 3:1 gearbox ratio provides a slow turning prop ensuring the best possible efficiency. MObiLE MOViE POWERTransDiesel Ltd recently supplied a generator set to Sam Fordham of Rolling Power, who installed it in a truck being used as a mobile generator set for the movie business. The mobile generator is to be used as a power source for film sets, TV shows and adverts that are shot in remote locations throughout New Zealand. It will be used to power anything needed on set such as lights, cameras, ovens and makeup trailers. The truck and the generator were the cheapest part of the unit and most of the money was spent in the acoustic silencing required to meet the strict standards required of the movie industry. Sam spent three months working on the acoustic design of the rig. It is super silenced and you can easily stand next to the truck, and have a conversation whispering to each other and still hear with no problem!

It has only just gone into service but it has already been used for a television cooking series airing later this year as well as a number of advertisements. The unit is a 200 kVA generator powered by a 6.6 Litre Perkins 1106C-E66TAG4 engine coupled to a UCI274G Stamford Alternator, which produces 175kW (235hp) at 1500 rpm. It is a sound enclosed unit with a 500 litre tank and deep sea electronic control unit. If you have a requirement for a Gen set contact Scott Tomkies on 027 278 7828.

A SHORT HiSTORY OF KG McLEOD.KG McLeod in Dunedin have recently undertaken a major change in appearance in support of the Agip range of oils and lubricants, supplied to them exclusively by TransDiesel Ltd.

TransDiesel were thrilled to support KG McLeods decision to rebrand its forecourt, by supplying and installing the new signage.

The current business of K.G. McLeod Ltd had its beginnings in the basement of a Dunrobin Street family home only one block from its current location. In 1954 Ken McLeod, newly married, built a

new home complete with basement service pit and other workshop essentials. The business was named Ken McLeod Motor Engineers. Ken worked on everything from locals rotary hoes to full size petrol tankers and tour buses.

Over the years the business has expanded and the latest automotive diagnostic equipment has been purchased and staff training carried out to gain skills required to repair all types of vehicles and electronic control systems. Growth is still continuing to this day as the business offers genuine, friendly and efficient service with the ability to diagnose and repair all systems on any vehicle with a customer base from Invercargill to Timaru including Central Otago. With a mechanical workshop, electronic diagnostics, repair workshop and service department, the business is extremely busy keeping their customers on the road.

KG McLeod came on board as a TransDiesel customer after being visited by our Otago and Southland territory manager Craig Nicolson. Initially we supplied them with a number of filtration solutions for their service department. Once we became the distributor for Agip oil our business progressed significantly, supplying them with a range of engine and transmission oils. We look forward to continuing to develop our business supplying oil and filtration solutions.

dRiVEn by TEREx.Billington transport has long been recognized as one of Dunedin’s iconic transport and construction companies. First established in the late 1940’s, early 50’s, Neville Billington took over the business in 1969 and has been managing and growing it for forty years. They

have been involved in some major project work over many years building a name based on honesty, reliability and an ability to get the job done.

Neville has been dealing with TransDiesel for over 30 years and in 1995

Neville purchased his first 25 tonne (2366) Terex Articulated Dump Truck from TransDiesel and has continued to remain loyal to the Terex brand and TransDiesel ever since. He was the first person in New Zealand to own a TA30 Generation 7 model. Billington Transport are now one of the largest fleet owners of Terex Articulated trucks in New Zealand.

Neville attributes his loyalty to the Terex Artic trucks being due to the trucks being built the way he wants them. “They are good value for money, they are relatively inexpensive to own and they are well backed up by TransDiesel”, commented Neville.

All of the TA30’s that Neville owns are specified and fitted with wide low floatation tires allowing these units to safely go to places that other trucks struggle to go.

Terex have recently launched their brand new generation of articulated dump trucks, the 30 tonne TA300 is due to be released and the 40 tonne TA400 is now available.

CROMWELL CERTIFIED CONCRETE WELCOME A nEW HYdRASAndER.Cromwell Certified Concrete operate their extensive quarry and plant to produce aggregates for concrete, road and building applications, for the New Zealand market

In late 2009 Cromwell Certified added a Terex Finlay 150E Hydrasander to their quarry operation in Central Otago. This is the third piece of Terex Finlay Equipment now working at the quarry, the 150E is an addition to the Finlay 683 Track Mounted Screen and the Finlay C-1540 Track Mounted Cone Crusher. Their plant set up now enables them to crush, screen and wash all excavated material on-site. Cromwell Certified feed material ranges from 20-150mm.The C-1540 working in closed circuit with the 683 Supertrak screening plant, is producing a variety of products at a net production rate of 160 tonne per hour.

The 150E Hydrasander was added to the set up to enable them to produce concrete, building, mason and plaster sands. It has a number of benefits including low wear or parts, low power consumption (7.5kW) and variable speed control on the bucket wheel and spiral.

It also has great dewatering capabilities and can be sold for mobile or static applications.

The 150E was commissioned by Mark Tinsley, TransDiesel’s South Island Product Support Technician.

According to Graham McClymont (Cromwell Certified Quarry Manager), the installation and commissioning went very well and the Finlay 150E is providing an excellent product at very good production rates.”We appreciate the assistance that TransDiesel provide us, Mark assisted with the installation and commissioning of the Wash Plant” commented Graham. “When we purchased the Finlay C-1540 Cone Crusher we had 2 TransDiesel staff and 2 Finlay staff from Ireland assist in the commissioning. When we did the first liner change on the Cone, Mark Tinsley came down and supervised and also used it as a training session for us. The extra assistance in each situation was provided free of charge, that’s pretty good service I reckon!” added Graham.

The Terex Finlay 100E, 150E and 200E single product Hydrasanders are used for dewatering and removing the silt content from washed sand. The large diameter bucket wheel, long fines recovery spiral and low power requirements enables these units to be both efficient and cost-effective. Concrete, building, mason and plaster sands can be produced.

Terex Finlay 100TP and 150TP twin product Hydrasanders provide two sands from the one unit. Both models require two separate sand slurry flows into the Hydrasander and are dewatered as separate products, typically concrete sand and finer building grade sand. The bucket wheel consists of 2 independently driven wheels.

The Finlay 252E Hydrasanders (classifiers) are specialists in sand classification.

Their unique dual flow recovery spirals enables the operator to separate two products in the settling tank – typically a concrete specified sand and a secondary fine product.

Water pressure jets which agitate the sand in selected areas also enables better classification. This flexibility allows the operator to meet various sand and market specifications.

Also available in the Terex Finlay Washing Plant Division are Mobile Rinser Screens, Logwashers (Aggregate Scrubber), Sandmaster Range, MP300, Siltmasters.

For further information on all Finlay Wash Plant Solutions contact TransDiesel equipment division.
