Toronto Bruce Trail Club Hikers Completed the Ganaraska Hiking Trail End to End This is the year that we not only celebrate Canada’s 150 th birthday, but also the 50 th anniversary of the Bruce Trail and the Ganaraska Trail. And on June 24th a dozen hikers from the Toronto Bruce Trail celebrated the official completion of their trek across the 500 km of the Ganaraska Trail – a fitting celebration of both trails. Led by Alina Lin and Glynn Richardson, this group of “end-to-end” enthusiasts (also including Jacqueline Van Dyke, Kara Kuo, Jane Clifford, Lina Cicchetti, Margaret Corner, Gaurdev & Mony Soora, Imelda & Ernie Santiago) started their adventure in July 2016, hiking throughout the summer, fall, winter and spring. It took 24 hikes to cover the entire trail. Pictures of all those hikes can be seen at: https://www.meetup.com/Toronto-Bruce-Trail-Club/photos/ Prior to this achievement these “end-to-enders” had finished the Oak Ridges Trail in the summer of 2016. Some members of this group, having completed the entire Bruce Trail (885 km), the Oak Ridges Trail (285 km), and the Ganraska Trail (500 km) have qualified for all of Hike Ontario’s “Long Distance Hiker Awards”: Red Pine award (550 km total hiked with a least 150 km on at least 2 trails); the Trillium award (950 km total hiked with at least 150 km on at least 3 trails), and the Tamarack award(1500km total hiked with at least 150 km on at least 3 trails). With the abundance of beautiful trails in Ontario, and for that matter Canada, there are always new journeys awaiting “end-to-end” adventurers. Always looking for another notch in her hiking boots, Alina Lin, Queen of the “end-to-end” hikes is currently leading this same group in a series of hikes along the Grand Valley Trail, a 280 km trail that extends along Grand River from Lake Erie to Orangeville. Whether you’d like to come out and hike for the day or for the entire trail, you are welcome to join them, their hike schedule can be found on the Toronto Bruce Trail Club website or the Toronto Bruce Trail Club Meetup group.
