.’קדושים‘ to be ;מצות are for remembering the ציצית

In order that you will remember ען תזכרו למ

and you will do all my mitzvos ׀ את כל מצותי, ועשיתם

and you will be holy to your Hashem. .והייתם קדשים לאלקיכם

and you will be holy to

your Hashem.

All mitzvos help make a

person heilig, like we say

before performing almost

every mitzvah: קדשנואשר

However, the .במצותיו

mitzvah of ציצית brings an

extra special קדושה

,)שע"ת לר"י ש"ג סי' כב(

because it reminds us of all

the other mitzvos. תרגום

says on this יונתן בן עוזיאל

that we will be heilig פסוק

like the מלאכים who serve

before Hashem in שמים. It

is amazing how high a level

a Yid can reach through a

“simple” pair of ציצית !

Similarly the בעל הטורים

writes that Hashem said

about the מצוה of ציצית, “I

want the Yidden to be

wrapped in a טלית, just like

the מלאכים.” Applying the

same idea, the reason men

wear a טלית the entire Yom

Kippur, even at night, is so

that we can be similar to

.מלאכים

)מ"ב סי' יח סק"ו(

A Reward for ציצית

The Gemara ):שבת לב( tells

us that one who is careful

to fulfill the מצוה of ציצית

will be rewarded to have

2,800 slaves at his service

when משיח comes.

The source for this is from

the נבואה of זכריה הנביא

which discusses the times

of משיח. It seems that the

Yidden who will live at that

time will be outstanding in

the מצוה of ציצית

נביא The .)מ"ב סי' ח' סקכ"ו(

says that 10 men from

each of the 70 nations will

hold onto each corner of

each Yid’s ציצית . The math

is as follows: 70 nations x

10=700 men; 700 men x 4

corners = 2,800 men, who

will be the servants of each

person who wears ציצית.

In the times of משיח, all the

nations will realize the

greatness of the Yidden

who fulfill this מצוה.

Therefore, they will come

willingly to service us and

cling to our ציצית in

servitude.

Remembering the mitzvos

ען תזכרו ועשיתם ׀ את כל למ

In order that you will - מצותי,

remember and you will do all

my mitzvos.

How do the ציצית remind us of

the mitzvos?

says that the רש"י .1

gematria (numerical

value) of the word ציצית is

600.

,10 = י ,90 = צ ,10 = י ,90 = צ

.for a total of 600 ,400 = ת

Add 8 for the 8 strings, and

5 for the 5 double knots.

That gives us a total of 613

the number of all ,תריג =

the mitzvos in the Torah.

3. The ציצית is the symbol

that we are Hashem’s

servants (as mentioned

earlier, Lesson 18,

Inspiration 2). A true

servant is loyal to what his

master commands him,

which in this case is the

613 mitzvos. )'אוה"ח הק(

Saved by ציצית

The Gemara ).מנחות מד( relates an incredible story of a talmid of א' חייר who was careful

to fulfill the מצוה of ציצית . He once heard about something in a faraway land that he

liked to do. That thing was an עבירה, but unfortunately he listened to his יצר הרע, and

began to travel there. After a long journey, he arrived at the faraway land. As he prepared

to do this עבירה, Hashem made a big עי' רש"י ד"ה הוציאה( נס( and the four ציצית of his

garment lifted up and slapped him in his face! That reminded him that he was a Yid, and

he immediately left the land and was saved from the עבירה.

A non-Jewish woman who was there asked him what happened. He explained that the

should ציצית happened to him so his נס is a reminder not to sin, and a ציצית of מצוה

remind him. She was so impressed with the נס that Hashem made that she followed this

man to his yeshivah and asked his Rosh Yeshivah to make her a גיורת, whereupon she

ended up marrying this man.

Did you know that the מצוה of ציצית is equal to all the other 613 מצות ? Of course, all

the מצות of Hashem are so important. But the מצוה of ציצית is equal to them all

because it reminds us of all the other מצות. Therefore, when we wear ציצית, Hashem

considers it as if we fulfilled all the 613 מצות.

When one puts on his ציצית (or afterwards) he should have in mind that the purpose of this

)שו"ע סי' ח ס"ח( .is to remind us of the other mitzvos, so we can fulfill them מצוה

Even though one fulfills the מצוה of ציצית without this thought, it is best to have it. This

helps make the מצוה of ציצית a complete one. )מ"ב סקי"ט(

of ציצית .]

When putting on ציצית each morning, think. “I am putting on my ציצית now so they

can remind me to do all the other mitzvos.”
