Terms of Reference Supervision and support training of frontline health workers for the Zinc and ORS in the treatment of childhood diarrhea in West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia 1. Background The Micronutrient Initiative has supported a demonstration project titled “Zinc and ORS pilot for the treatment of childhood diarrhea in Indonesia” in selected districts of West Lombok and East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Province. The project was conducted between April 2011 and April 2014. MI plans to replicate the elements of the processes which have worked to improve coverage and adherence of zinc and ORS in childhood diarrhea treatment across the West Nusa Tenggara province. As part of this process, the training by trainers from MoH staff to PHO staff, followed by the training of the DHO staff by the PHO staff in 8 districts within West Nusa Tenggara Province is proposed to be undertaken. 2. Objective The objective of this assignment is to facilitate the training and supervision of the frontline health workers by the district level trainers in 8 districts within West Nusa Tenggara Province to improve the coverage and utilization of zinc and ORS for treatment of childhood diarrhoea. 3. Methodology The training will be focus on correct dosage, duration, method of administration and benefits of zinc andORS , proper recording stock availability and distribution at each health facility level, correct reporting on the number of childhood diarrhea cases treated, regular compilation and submission of HMIS data to DHO and on providing interpersonal counseling to A pre- and post-test with regard to the training content will be administered among all participants. The MI extender will also be involved in these trainings. The training package for childhood diarrhea treatment of Sub-division Diarrhea, MoH which includes supply chain management, recording and reporting system, interpersonal counseling by health providers to caregivers will be used. District Health Office staff (as trainer) will deliver trainings assisted by health center’s Diarrhea Program Officer for staff who are involved in the for management of treating diarrhea cases at the health facilities (Puskesmas, Pustu, Poskesdes). There are 113 health centers in 8 districts in West Nusa Tenggara Province (West and East Lombok districts are not included). The participants will be medical doctor, MCH officer, environmental health officer, nurses and midwives, health promotion officer, pharmacist officer, and selected cadres.

    Training report which covers the following sections:

    a) Executive summary b) Process c) Methods used d) Key outcomes including results of pre- and post-test evaluation, feedback of participants

    on training materials, duration, quality of trainers and sessions. e) Conclusions f) Recommendations

    5. Management Arrangements

    The proposed assignment will be undertaken by a selected agency who will facilitate the training. MI will provide technical and financial support through the selected agency. The activities will be coordinated together with PHO and DHOs in West Nusa Tenggara Province. 6. Time Schedule

    Duration of activities will be undertaken between September 2015 to February 2016.
