Research Opportunity – Developmental Biology with Clinical Relevance
Topic: Molecular Mechanisms of Pancreatic Islet Formation
Position: Masterarbeit
We are searching for a highly motivated candidate for a Masters study in an exciting FWF-Funded project. (http://www.fwf.ac.at/de/abstracts/abstract.asp?L=D&PROJ=P25659)
The project addresses developmental and functional aspects of pancreatic islet formation using the zebrafish as a model organism. The major focus will be to evalulate molecular pathways directing the migration and clustering of differentiating endocrine progenitors. Methods used include generation of novel transgenic lines, high-resolution microscopy (3D and 4D time-lapse), and cutting-edge quantitative image analysis approaches.
We offer the opportunity to take part in basic biomedical research with clinical applicability for diseases of pancreatic islets (especially Diabetes Mellitus) and pathological migration (for example cancer). This work will be performed within a young and dynamic research group at the University of Innsbruck. The starting time of the project is flexible.
Requirements:
Highly motivated student of Biology, Biochemistry or Biotechnology Experience in microscopy and molecular biology Previous work with vertebrate model organisms preferred
