    1. What is MobiLink GSM?

It is an interface for your profit! By interfacing between a

phone exchange and the GSM 900/1800 mobile telephony

network it cuts down the costs of fixed-to-GSM and GSMto-

    fixed calls.

MobiLink achieves a direct link between a trunk of the

phone central and the GSM 900/1800 mobile network. By

using the PBX facility of automatically routing the calls

depending upon prefix, any call from an extension to a

mobile phone in the GSM network will get out through thetrunk on which MobiLink was installed. This way you will pay

just the cost of a mobile-to-mobile call inside the same

network, instead of the cost of fixed-to-mobile call.

Also, for any call issued from a GSM phone towards the

number of the MobiLink unit connected to the PBX, you may

call any local subscriber you want, still paying only the cost of

a mobile-to-mobile call inside the GSM network instead of

being billed for a mobile-to-fixed call.

    symmetrically

At start, the blinking at 500 ms on, 500 ms offshows that the GSM module is initiating.

    Blinking, with 320ms, symmetrically

In the initialization state, the equipment waitsthe PIN code. You can enter the PIN codeusing a telephone connected to the FxSinterface (Which must be activated). If theStatus LED blinks with 160 ms on, 160 ms off,it means that the SIM card has activated the"PIN code request" option and the SIM codevalue is different that the value which isrecorded in the equipment.

    Red blinking,with 160 ms,

    symmetrically

You have entered a wrong PIN code!MobiLink requires the PUK code and blinksvery fast. If the PIN code has been enteredincorrectly three times, the SIM card asks thefor PUK code. The LED lights on and blinks:80 ms ON, 80 ms OFF

light offThe module is initiated and the telephoneinterface is in stand-by (there is no voiceconnection).

Significance of the yellow LED indicator

This LED indicator has also multiple significances: informationabout the mobile network (registering, signal level) and shows the

serial port activity (data transfer). It is located between the red andthe green indicators, and its colored in yellow.

    Status Significance

    Numbers ofblinks

Blinks only one time: the GSM module isnot registered in the network!Blinks two times the module is registered, but is no activity in the networkBlinks three times the module is registered,

and there is data activity in the network

Period of blinkIndicates the signal level: the longer theperiod is, the higher signal level you have:(120ms=under -96dBm, 240ms= -96 -85dBm, 400msec=over-85dBm)

    Lights on or off,continually

This should not happen in normal operation, itshows that the equipment is not workingproperly!

Significance of the green LED indicator

The green indicator shows the presence of the supply voltage, necessary for a properly functioning.

    3.8. Achieving a voice link

MobiLink has a FXS telephony interface, labeled TEL. This maybe connected to either:

    - An analog trunk of a standard PBX (as shown in figure 3)- Directly to a standard (fixed) analog telephone (see figure 5)

Figure 5: Connecting a fixed phone

WARNING!MobiLink must be connected via its TEL connectorto a trunk output of the PBX (privatebranch exchange). It is strictlyforbidden to connect it to a:- PSTN trunk (the trunk of apublicbranch exchange)- local subscriber line of the PBX- Direct line from the public telephony carrier. Doing so damages

the MobiLink equipment and voids the warranty.

A voice connection may be initialized when the MobiLink equipmentgenerates disc tone (continuous tone with the frequency of 440 Hz).This corresponds to the LED Voice lighting up.

The phone or PBX trunk may send the call number to the TopexMobiLink unit in "Tone" (DTMF) mode or in Pulse mode. After dialingthe last figure, after a 5-second delay, the number dialed is sent bythe MobiLink interface to its internal wireless modem for the GSM

network. If you want the call number to be sent out immediately to the modem, after the last figure of the number you must dial "#" in "Tone" mode.

The maximum number of figures allowed for dialing is 20.

If there is no serial communication between the MobiLink interfaceand the GSM modem or if the modem module is not the coveragearea, MobiLink will generate a warning sound by chopping in cadencea 440 Hz signal this way: 200 ms tone, 100 ms pause, 200 ms tone,500 ms pause.

    5. APPLICATIONSIn order to demonstrate the applicability and the means of use of

the MobiLink, we show you a few examples of using this equipmentfor wireless communications:

Interface between a phone exchange and the GSM900/1800 MHz mobile telephony network

MobiLink achieves a direct voice connection between the

PBX (private branch telephone exchange) and the GSMcommunications network. The equipment is connected on ananalog trunk of the PBX and assures you the benefit of an easyand fast connection of all the local subscribers to mobile telephony,by-passing the fixed telephony operator. Using the automaticrouting feature of the PBX (the outgoing calls are automaticallydirected by the routing software, depending on the prefix of thedialed number) any call to a mobile phone will go out through the

trunk on which the MobiLink GSM unit was installed. This way youwill pay only the lower cost of a mobile-to-mobile call inside thesame network instead of a fixed-to-mobile call.

Also, for any call issued from a mobile phone to the number of theMobiLink unit connected to the PBX you may call any local subscriberbeing billed only for a mobile-to-mobile call instead of a moreexpensive mobile- to-fixed call.

This application is targeted towards business companies with a lot

of local offices or agents in the field. They have large phone trafficfrom fixed phone local subscribers to GSM phones and vice-versa,and with MobiLink they can to cut down their phone bills.

Interface between a fixed phone and the GSM 900/1800MHz mobile telephony network

MobiLink GSM creates a direct voice connection between ananalog fixed (standard) telephone and the GSM wirelesscommunications network. You just connect phone cable to theMobiLink unit and have access to the mobile network without the needfor a connection (landline) to a fixed telephony operator.

Also, if you want to call home, you will dial the number of the SIMinserted into the slot of the MobiLink unit and your call will beautomatically directed to the fixed phone in your home.

This application is targeted for persons or small companies who don'thave access to the fixed telephony network, that is they have nophone landline to their homes or offices. With MobiLink GSM they willbe able to use the fixed phone to call anywhere through the GSMtelephony network. Benefits of this application include:

The immediate installation of a telephone in remote areas, thatmay not be reached by phone lines, but which are inside thecoverage area of the GSM mobile network. The antenna withthe magnetic base may be located in a place with good RFsignal, it ensures better field strength that a normal mobilephone.

Even in a big city it may be very expensive and take longer toinstall a standard phone line, while using the GSM network isfaster and cheaper, especially for temporary locations.

Diminishing the risk of loss implied by a small size mobiledevice. This ensures higher security for equipment connected

to the mobile telephony network when it is installed in remotepublic places that require access to a phone. Examples includegas stations, shops, motels, temporary events like fairs, exhibitions, competitions etc.

The means of easy use of an ordinary, fixed telephone, forcalls to a GSM network. You dont have to bother withnavigating through complex menus of with dialing using thesmall keys of the mobile phone.

The possibility to use two fixed phones in derivation orbranching mode.

Getting rid of the radiation of the cellphone. The GSM modemof MobiLink and the external antenna will NOT be located nearthe user or other people. Also, they will not be near the Hi-Fiaudio or video appliances sensitive to EMI.

Ensure a reliable mobile connection, with high quality of theaudio signal, even when the GSM signal is weak.If you use a mobile phone, you might need to go outdoors toreach a place with better RF field strength. But with MobiLinkyou can install the external antenna in a place where the fieldstrength is best, for instance outside of the window, while thefixed phone remains indoors, on your desk.
