Hermes superabrasives for external cylindrical plunge grinding can be used at ope-rating speeds of up to 160 m/s. Despite high stock removal rates, excessive ther-mal load on the workpiece is avoided.

For the final grinding step – Hermes aluminum oxide grinding film FB 637

Compared to conventional grinding wheels, this results in signifi cantly extended lives for abrasives, in turn leading to reduced tooling-up times and tool costs. The consequence for our customers is a more economical grinding process.

Hermes supplies these high-tech grinding wheels with an external diameter of up to 750 mm.

Hermes abrasives also generate process cost benefi ts when fi nishing crankshaft bearing seats.

To help its customers achieve those fi nal values for concentricity, roughness depth and percentage contact area, Hermes supplies aluminum oxide grinding fi lm FB 637, which is used in the form of cycled material on a roll and which has replaced con-ventional “stone honing“. The grinding material constantly being used new as a result of the cycling results in greater production effectiveness and simultaneously guarantees much greater process reliability.

Aluminum oxide grinding fi lm FB 637 is extremely resistant to tearing and com-pression, and can be used under either oil or emulsion. This high-tech abrasive facilitates consistent application parameters and maintains narrow tolerance ranges for the surface values achieved throughout its entire tool life.
