TOP FLIGHTMaking it to CEO and C-Suite Roles
2
INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSEMcKinsey found that the senior management teams of global companies with three or more women had a higher firm performance, on average, than teams with no women. They also identified that companies in the top quartile for gender diversity are 15% more likely to have higher financial returns. Yet, even if companies do want to increase their women in senior roles, nearly half of female executives feel a lack of role models holds them back and reduces their willingness to go for promotion.
‘Top Flight’ addresses this gap, by helping women with potential take that last difficult step to Executive CEO and Executive Committee roles. We advise organisations to begin at this senior level because women will not strive for promotion or remain if they do not see other women making it to the top.
“I’ve gone from being the hired help regionally to driving and owning the strategy of my organisation
in the UK. Top Flight helped me to make that choice and catapulted
my career.”
Jane Kielty - Managing Director,
National, AON

Programme ContentParticipants are a small, carefully selected group of women who, as part of their own development, and with the support of their CEOs, want to prepare for top leadership, by joining a group board (internally or externally). This programme is like no other on the market. It gives individuals unrivalled access so that they learn from FTSE 100 Chairmen and CEOs and other high achievers. These leaders talk about what they look for in choosing executive and non-executive directors and share the wisdom they’ve gained from their successes, and, more crucially, their mistakes.
The programme comprises six three-day group sessions in central London every other month with executive coaching in between. Guest speakers include the likes of Lord Stuart Rose, Baroness Gail Rebuck, Sir Gerry Grimstone, Baroness Martha Lane Fox, Sir Terry Leahy, Baroness Dido Harding and Sir Mike Rake.
‘Top Flight’ is comprehensive. It allows for the development of a personal narrative, it deepens knowledge of corporate governance, it encourages promotion of the best personal and corporate reputation and helps women understand and develop their leadership style.
Before the course begins there is a one-to-one review of each individual, within her organisational context, to fully understand her requirements. Progress is reviewed over the year so that each individual finishes feeling strong and confident about the skills she has acquired and ready to make a success of the new challenges in her life.
Peer support from fellow participants is another important factor in the programme’s success. Participants report that the camaraderie within a group of high calibre businesswomen is powerful and motivating. For this programme to deliver results all participants need to feel comfortable in taking risks, which means trust is absolutely essential. We create a supportive environment where each participant feels safe and can confidently share their hopes and fears. We believe that only when participants are able to acknowledge their vulnerabilities, real or perceived, can they accept their strengths and play to them. This is something we pride ourselves on as it is vital for achieving desired outcomes.
Dates Fees and further informationThe cost of this programme is £28,500 which includes six three-day group training sessions, bi-monthly executive coaching, two tailored one-to-one reviews, career planning, reading material and hospitality (excludes VAT and accommodation).
Each year, Top Flight starts in January and runs over three days in the following months:
