Now 15, Aidan has outgrown the “cute kid” stereotype. His music is now decorated with insightful songwriting, a deeper, more mature sound, and the infusion of the ukulele into all genres of music. He released his first full-length album, Echoes, in December 2015, which earned him his second Na Hoku Hanohano Award nomination for “Contemporary Album of the Year” in 2016. One of the album’s songs, “The Girl on the TV Screen,” took first place in the Top 40/POP category in the international songwriting competition in Nashville. Aidan JamesAidan hails from the Aloha State (Hawaii) – a place steep in the traditions of its culture, dance, and music. Although the ukulele is most commonly known for its Hawaiian tradition, Aidan has taken the unique instrument to a different level, streamlining its unique sound into pop, rock, and folk music. By combining his natural musical talent, warm vocals, a loop station and effect pedals, this young phenom has created his own artistry – taking it beyond the islands and inspiring audiences of all ages, all over the world.Aidan’s musical journey began at the ripe age of 4, when he picked up his first ukulele and began taking lessons at the world-renowned Roy Sakuma Ukulele Studio in Honolulu. Little did anyone know at the time, the instrument that helped a young boy overcome a mild speech impediment would soon open a path for what would become the start of his musical career. At just 8 years old, Aidan became a YouTube sensation when a video of him performing Train’s “Hey Soul Sister” went viral, garnering over 20 million views to date. After going on to appear in an episode of Hawaii Five-0 where he performed that very song, Aidan developed a friendship with lead singer Pat Monahan, who became Aidan’s mentor. The friendship/mentorship resulted in Aidan’s cameo in Mermaid, as well as being a featured guest on Pat’s podcast, Patcast.Aidan began touring the US mainland at the age of 10, playing in legendary venues such as the Whisky a Go Go, House of Blues, and several Hard Rock Café locations. Additionally, Aidan has played at The Grand Theatre in Japan and Toata Stadium in Tahiti at the record-breaking Guinness Book of World Records event for Most Ukulele Players in 2015. At age 11, Aidan began songwriting. His first single, “One of the Ones”, was released in early 2014 and was featured on Hawaii Five-0. Later that year, his first EP, “Live Again”, debuted on Christmas Day and was eventually nominated for a 2015 Na Hoku Hanohano Award (Hawaii’s equivalent of the Grammy Awards) for “EP of the Year”. He made history by becoming the youngest artist ever to be nominated in the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts’ 30-year long history.
