Results from Round 6 has seen the Points Table take some shape with the top 5 sides cementing spots in the first grade Tooheys Cup competition. Berkeley Vale and Woy Woy are close behind 5th place, but both are required to start back to back victories to remain in contention. An important game for Terrigal this week as they look to continue from last week’s win and take on top placed Erina in the featured match of the round televised on Bar TV, as Erina start in form and fresh from a 2 week break. Improved player behaviour resulted in only 1 incident report last weekend. Thank you to all the players making it much easier for all involved. Good luck to all clubs & officials in this week’s matches.

Warriors News A special mention must go to our major sponsor the Doylo. We really appreciate their continued help and support. Don’t forget our after match presenta-tion each week in the Smokehouse at around 5.30 pm on Sundays. Sup-porters are most welcome. Welcome to our new sponsors TLE (Hoodies are great) and Haven Tipping Hire. A huge thank you to the Bulgers, Gordo and Donna Carpenter for helping us set up, pack up and do all the stuff a lot of people don’t like doing. Your help and commitment is greatly valued.Ladies TeamThe girls tried hard but were blown away by a very fast and skilful Terrigal team who scored some very entertaining tries. Hard work at training will see this new side gel a bit more and improve. Thanks to Ant and Sandy for their positive approach to coaching this team. The girls are really en-joying their season being involved you both.Thirds reportA comprehensive victory by the Warriors. Defence was probably the most pleasing part of the performance. Strong games were had by Grizz and Brooker who have had a long absence from the game. There is plenty of improvement in this team so keep training hard boys.Seconds report The boys started on top versus Terrigal, slicing their opposition on a couple of occasions early, but only converting 1 opportunity into points. Terrigal fought their way back into the game and headed the Warriors at half time. The Warriors finished strong and nearly snatched a draw in the last minute. It wasn’t to be. Again,Jordan Boyd played very well and BJ led the team by example.First Grade report:The game was an arm wrestle for the first half with both teams attack-ing and defending desperately. However, Terrigal started the second half positively with some entertaining passages of play and the bounce of the ball in their favour. They ran out eventual winners. Congratulations to Issac and Nelson on their first grade debuts. Congratulations Riz on another meat pie mate. We hope Zak has a speedy recovery after his injury. Get well soon mate.Go the mighty Warriors.

Roos News There is no better place to watch local footy than Sohier Park when the weather is good and Roos, Magpies and Bears supporters were blessed with just such a day for Round 6. The Roos got the better of the opposition in all grades. The Open Age match against St Edwards was expected to be a tough, physical encoun-ter and did not disappoint. The match was in the balance until the final siren and was easily the pick of the games on the day. The Magpies hosted a joint presentation to conclude the day’s proceedings and the hospitality shown to the Roos players and supporters was well appreciated.Ladies League Tag - Sponsored by DMC Dovmac Mining & Construction, Austbrokers Central Coast, Bella Group Services and Northlakes Glass & Glazing. Wyong 28 – Ourimbah 0The final scoreline did not do the Ourimbah Ladies justice. The Magpies were energetic and athletic in defence, throwing themselves all about the park and producing some remarkable last ditch tags. The Roos became too lateral in the face of the effective defence and had to work hard to penetrate. The visitors led 14-0 at halftime. Teearna Langbridge scored twice from set plays during that first period. Shae Slattery ran straight and hard between defend-ers to touch down in the 38th minute. Chloe McClymont scored her second in the 42nd minute after Wyong pushed hard centrefield then went wide to put Chloe on the outside of the defensive line. Madelyne Smith completed the scoring in the 46th minute. The Roos attacked from inside the home team’s 20m line. The Roos went left. Claire Reed stood and passed creating time for Erin Kessler on her outside. Erin cleverly engaged the defence before releas-ing Madelyne down the paint and into the corner. The standout performer for Wyong was Holly Gibbons, shifted to fullback from her usual halves position. Holly caught every catchable kick on the full and at pace and menaced the Magpies each possession set. Holly was Players’ Player and Teearna re-ceived the Coach’s Award.Open Age – Sponsored by DMC Dovmac Mining & Construction, Austbrokers Central Coast, Bella Group Services and Northlakes Glass & GlazingWyong 12 – St Edwards 6Both teams were undefeated coming into this match and there was an inten-sity from the opening whistle which reflected such circumstance. During the first half the Bears camped themselves inside Wyong territory and made the Roos defend for long periods with their backs hard against the tryline. On the few occasions the visitors ventured into St Edwards real estate they looked good but lacked that finishing touch. Joe Marshall threw a left to right face ball in the 14th minute, cutting out two players and putting winger Bryce Burgun on the outside of the defence. Burgun raced into fresh air and looked cer-tain to score, only to be brought to ground centimetres from the line. Normal transmission was resumed shortly afterwards. The Bears displayed patience and a lot of energy both sides of the ball. Eventually the pressure told. Full-back Dale Wilson injected himself into a left side raid. The outside men held their lines and the ball went through the hands in regulation for winger Shay-ne Corda to score. Wilson converted from the sideline. St Edwards took that 6-0 lead into the break. The second period began as a mirror reverse of the first. Wyong were playing from the front foot and had the territorial advantage. Zac Ryan scored in the 38th minute. Wyong executed a right side shift. The ball went to ground. As the defence moved past the ball Ryan regathered, broke free of his marker and powered into the ingoal. Pan Kaaka converted to level the scoreline. The match became a war of attrition. Whereas the first half completion rate by St Edwards was excellent, it began to fall away. The Roos ball control improved, but the difficulty bending the Bears line persisted. Mick Power punched into space off Sam Grose. The passage of play had St Edwards retreating. A precision cross field kick by Michael Smith was plucked from the sky by Burgun. The conversion gave Wyong some breathing space and the green and gold was good enough to defend that lead until the siren. The return bout at Morry Breen Field should be a beauty. Players’ Player went to Joel Patterson and Matt Pouhila received the Coach’s Award.Reserve Grade – Sponsored by DMC Dovmac Mining & Construction, Aust-brokers Central Coast, Regnis & Sons Refrigeration, Aubrey Brown Lawyers and Sharp DS Central CoastWyong 48 – Ourimbah 14The Roos led 12-0 after 15 minutes and 30-4 by halftime. The home team scored when right centre John Young swooped on a misdirected pass and showed good pace over 60m to the tryline. Again Wyong was guilty of over-playing and drifting in and out of the game. Some passages of play were crisp and purposeful while others were meandering and sloppy. Things appeared to get worse for the visitors in the second half. Full credit must be given to the Magpies. Despite being overmatched the home team stuck to their guns and kept turning up in attack and defence. The Roos won the second half 18-10 and that scoreline bespeaks of the little difference between the teams during the latter half of the match. There were several positives to be taken from the game; Dustin Shaw was dynamic and easily the visitors’ best. Brady Barwick did all he could to keep the team on message and Boston Smith at right centre displayed genuine class. Barwick was Players’ Player. The Coach’s Award went to Shaw.

1st Grade – Sponsored by Evolution Security, DMC Dovmac Mining & Con-struction, Ainsworth, Austbrokers Central Coast and Network InteriorsWyong 62 – Ourimbah 6The Magpies lifted for this match and made things very uncomfortable for the visitors for the first 40 minutes. Ourimbah repeatedly switched their points of attack and produced an array of ruck plays which forced Wyong to quickly adjust and make defensive decisions at speed and under pressure. The vari-ety in the home team’s kicking game also asked many questions of the Roos back three. The issue for the Magpies was whether they could sustain that level of play. The Roos almost scored in the 12th minute when sharp passing between Terence Seu Seu and Luke Dolbel released Kye Martin down the western touchline. Play was recalled for a forward pass. Wyong opened the scoring four mins later when Mitch Williams linked with Tarnae Mahon run-ning a courage line on the right edge. Mahon crashed over. Further tries to prop Jake Lewis, left centre Zane Rickit and five eighth Luke Sharpe coupled with three conversions to Josh Mantellato completed the Roos scoring in the first half and gave the green and gold a 22-6 lead going into the break. De-spite receiving plenty of attention from the Magpies defence, Williams found enough time and space to dictate terms to the opposition, respectively engi-neering tries for Wyatt Shaw and Jake O’Meley in the 47th and 51st mins. The Magpies were spent by this stage allowing the Roos to run in five tries in the last quarter of the match. Williams and Lewis could not be split in the Players’ Player vote. Lewis snared the Coach’s Award.

Bears News The boys came up against an undefeated Wyong side who had been in great form. We started the match well with some solid defence and a nice backline movement which saw Shayne Corda cross over in the corner to give us a 6-0 lead going into half time. The second half was a tight contest but to Wyong’s credit they took their chances when we offered them crossing twice in the second half to come away with a 12-6 win. 3 Points and Players Player went to Durbo who has been one of our best every week so far. 2 Points went to Kurtis Rogers who was tireless as always in the middle. 1 Point went to Locky Corda who filled in the halves this week and really stood up and also 1 point to Dave Thom who was in everything all day and provided some great service from dummy half. Coaches award was split between the two Corda brothers in Locky and Nic who along with their brother Shayne have been great each week after coming back to the club after having a year off.

Last week we had the pleasure of playing at the Entrance a big thank you to your club and supporters for the warm greeting we received, and I trust we will return the favour upon your trip to MacKillop in the 2nd round. Our best wishes are extended to the poor young man in reserve grade who was badly injured we all hope for a speedy recovery for you. The following comments from our coaching staff will cover the matches, it was a long day. A special thanks to all our sponsors, thank you for your continued support each one of you. Regards Graham.Ladies League TagThe girls knew that it was going to be a tough game against the tigers but were confident in putting up a fight and putting their skills to the test. The score did not reflect the effort from all our girls, their defence was strong the whole game, the tigers had to work for their tries. 3 points went to Latitia, 2 points to Katie and she received Players Player as well, and 1 point went to Bree. All the girls should be proud of themselves after the effort they all put in as a team. Well done colties.Open GradeAfter going through the year undefeated so far, our open grade side would face their toughest test of the season so far, against an Entrance team sure to be there come finals football. The day didn’t start well, losing the ever reliable and hardworking Chris Oakes in the warm up, with what looks like a long-term injury, all the best on a speedy recovery mate. The boys got first points on the board and defended well in the first half, only letting a try in off a kick to the corner. We lead 6-4 heading into the break. The second half however we were up against it from the get go, on the opposite end of a big penalty count, a few key errors when it mattered and too much defending, the boys ran out of gas and let a couple of soft try’s in, taking nothing away from The Entrance who turned up to play in front of their home crowd. Entrance eventually winning 14-6.Mitchy Shoultz was a standout on the day and never stopped asking ques-tions of The Entrance big men, JC although finishing the game with a bit of a knock, lead from the front all day with he’s defence and played out of he’s skin, Brucey never stopped trying and took a lot of tough carries out of our own end. The boys will be looking to bounce back in a big way at home when they take on St Eddies, another tough opponent, can’t wait to see how the boys respond, up the colts!

Reserve GradeReserve Grade team came away with a hard-fought win 6-4, against The En-trance. We knew the tigers would be our toughest test so far, and the game didn’t disappoint, with both sides ripping in from the first whistle. The Tigers scored early but to our guys credit our boys stayed in the contest, with “stubbsy” scoring just before half time. With our bench down to one the second half became a test of our resolve, and the boys playing for each other to keep the tigers out.The victory has marked us with a few injuries to Kane, and Ryan, and our thoughts are with the tiger’s centre for a speedy recovery. The points were shared between Matty Stone, Ricky Chamberlain, and Bro-dy Cooper, with Kye Bonnici getting Players Player. All outstanding efforts, and the boys should be proud of themselves.First GradeAnother game of two halves for the 1st grade boys again with a great start to the game and stretching the Premiers to be only down 10-6 after a usual ruling that cost Fletcher Berry his first try in 1st grade. We were in the arm wrestle and the first half was tough but also a little sloppy from both sides. The break done us no favours again & we unfortunately fell off the pace to go down 30-6.(3) points again, back to back weeks Wade Hannell for another strong game, never stopped & he looked dangerous every time he touched the ball. (2) points went to Jake Shearer who troubled the defence all day with his runs. (1) point went to the Hurd brothers Matt & Brendan for strong games & made a difference both being back in the team.Onwards to Ourimbah next week we’re know doubt they will be keen for a win.

Ground Managers Course

“Safety and Fun”Last Wednesday evening saw a Central Coast Rugby League Ground Managers Course

run by Regional Manager Keith Onslow at Mingara with approximately 50 attendees from all Clubs around the Coast.

The course was most informative. Attendees were given the opportunity to create a collective CC Ground Manager standard.

Following general discussion “Safety and Fun” was agreed as the standard for all clubs and venues to strive for.

The main qualities/skills of a good Ground Manager were established as: ◊ People Skills: General Communication, cooperative, engaging and friendly, positive body language, able to manage a variety of situations ◊ Organisational ◊ Time Management ◊ Observation and Perception ◊ Knowledgeable ◊ Conflict Resolution ◊ Teamwork

Effective Ground Management encompasses the successful preparation and management of the total environment that is required for an event.

Physical components of the environment: ◊ Playing area and the structures within this area ◊ Spectator areas ◊ Change rooms ◊ Amenities ◊ Food and drink outlets (ie canteen) ◊ Parking spaces ◊ Fences and gates

Management of the ‘human’ element within this environment: ◊ Players (including those not actively playing) ◊ Team Officials ◊ Spectators ◊ Match Officials

The Sharks travelled the road to Northern Lakes on the weekend and a number of players must have taken the wrong turnoff with Opens and Reserves both scratching for numbers. On a positive note the Sharks came up triumphant in three matches with the Firsts and Ladies scoring decisive wins while the Reserves got up in a closely fought match.

The T-W LLT team returned to the winners list with a 54 - 6 win over North-ern Lakes after leading 30 - 0 at the break. The Sharks scored some great team tries as they over came a gritty Warriors defence, who will be a big improver over the rest of the season. Claudia Symington was the pick of the Sharks ladies having a hand in eight tries and was her dependable self in defence, the two points and Players Player went to Kate Fullbrook who crossed for three tries, ran strongly and kicked a sideline conversion (or so she tells me) while the one point went to Shannon Higgins who also crossed for three tries, kicked four conversions and got the Sharks going forward with some decisive running. Sophie Smith also crossed for a double, while Layne Foster, Rachael Mortell, and Elysia Atkins also crossed for tries.

The Sharks Opens side didn’t get the result they were hoping for, having little or no bench and having players who were injured having to help us out. We will be grateful for our players to return from holidays and work commit-ments and being more committed to building a winning team. Best for the Sharks was Brad Jay who made some big runs and was strong in defence, two points went to the ever reliable Brady Gerber while the one point went to Josh Neilsen who is improving with every game. The Players Player went to Michael Gray who showed his experience and led from the front. Owen Pearce crossed for the Sharks only try.

The Sharks Reserve grade side scored a good hard fought win against a tenacious Northern Lakes team. The Sharks led 6 - 4 at halftime and got the scoreline out to 16 - 4 and then had to weather a fightback to run out winners 16 - 10. Great effort considering the number of guys that backed up from the Opens side. The guys that are backing up should be proud of themselves in what is a great display of clubmanship. Effort was great, just need to ex-ecute better in in certain situations. Darcy Gilchrist received the three points and Players Player in a dominant performance on the edges, the two points was delivered to Owen Pearce who is improving week in week out and the one point went to the versatile Clint Norris who plays anywhere picked and gives his all.

Much better performance this week against the Warriors especially in the second half where our completion rate was a season high 88%.Its not a complicated game rugby league, possession is important and if you com-plete at around 90% you give yourself a good chance of winning the game. That will be very important this week against the competitions undefeated and in form team the Erina Eagles. .Brae Verheyen and Jack Stringer made their 1st grade debuts this week and were both outstanding, along with an-other young player Cooper Bromwich who made his debut two weeks ago. Aaiden Wright at the back was a solid performer for us again as was Todd Lewis and Ryan McDonald. Big challenge for us this week but in front of a big crowd at Shark Park we will be giving the Eagles a red hot crack.

Eagles News ToThe Eagles want to thank the boys from Toukley who travelled to Erina on Sunday, despite struggling with numbers. Credit to those players and staff and we certainly wish your club all the best for the rest of this season and beyond. Our 1st grade players cooked a compli-mentary BBQ for both clubs players, officials & supporters and it was great to see both groups come together as one after the game and have a sausages sanga, beverage and a chat.

Our 2nd Grade recorded back to back wins on Sunday, with a com-fortable victory. It was the speed of our back line that really had the Hawks stretched, nothing proving that point more than Fullback Luke Maljevac’s 5 try masterclass and winger Petero, who crossed for 3 of his own! A personal haul by halfback Matt Downey ( 9 goals and a try) of 22 points was another highlight !

Open Grade had their 1st win of the year against a gallant Toukley outfit , winning 52-6 . And just like our 2’s side we have speed to burn , with blokes like Brayden , Deano , Dan Gosbee and Blake Irwin running off halves Mick and Hiku , and that’s a big problem for the opposition . Chad Voysey showed he still has talent to burn scoring 4 tries , Nathan Deane scored 2 and still has what it takes to play 1st Grade , and Dangerous Dayn Marson shook off jet lag and excess baggage to cross for 2 of his own. Coach Booza enjoyed his time back at hooker, driving his forwards past the advantage line consist-ently Hopefully the boys can start to string a few wins together and move up the ladder .

We now look forward to the short travel to Duffy’s Road to take on Terrigal on Sunday, with 1st Grade coming off a two week break. It is great to see young Ollie Clements making their First Grade debut this week with the Clements name well renowned here at the Eagles Nest in the Erina tri-colours. Another great junior footballers coming through to the grade in 2019. Congratulations Ollie also on making the final squad for the NSW Under 18’s team! Bailey Scott is also making his 1st Grade debut this week. Well done Bailey!

First Grade Report We travelled to Woy Woy for last weeks game ready to rip in and get the two points but it just wasn’t our day.The boys struggled to get much ball in both halves but had a real crack in defence and without that we would have been beaten by a lot more given the amount of ball that Woy Woy had...it’s only a mat-ter of time before this team clicks with a few injured players coming back into the side and getting some match fitness under their belts...stick with us guys!!!Would like to thank our loyal supporters for coming down to watch, the boys really appreciate it.I’d also like to thank our hard working committee who go above and beyond to keep everything running...thanks guys and girls!!!!Cheers...Johno

Reserve Grade ReportThe panthers reserve grade played the Woy Woy roosters away for a gutsy win. After being behind 12 - 8 at halftime with 2 try’s each and no conversion. In the 2nd half it was a tough defensive effort from the boys, and we scored the only converted try to win 14_12 well done boys.3 pts and players player went to Jeff fields and 2 pts to Kye knight and 2 one pointers to James Weldon, Jason little.

Tigers News The Central Coast Cleaning Contractor’s First Grade Tigers were back at EDSACC on Sunday in what turned out to be a great day for rugby league. Kincumber had made a good start to the season and with a big aggressive pack, the win was one that was going to have to be earnt. The 1st half was a tight affair with both sides placing a large emphasis on defence. At halftime the game was up for grabs at 10-6. The 2nd half was much better for our boys running in 4 tries to finish up at 30-6. This was a solid victory particularly in defence but we still need to work on our execution in attack. 3 points and players player went to crowd favourite Jay-Flo who was a menace in attack and defence. 2 points went the ‘King of Entrance’ Will Pearsall who controlled the tempo of the game well. 1 point went to uncom-promising Jacob McCudden who relishes the tough stuff. Looking forward to our clash against Berkeley Vale this week which on paper looks like a good battle. The Rapid Clean Central Coast Reserve Grade Tigers were defeated 4-6 by Kincumber. The Tigers led for much of the first half and looked to take a 4 point lead into the halftime break before the Colts took an intercept to score a try which was converted. That conversion proved to be the difference in the end with both sides defending strongly. We will have to improve on that performance in coming weeks if we want to hold onto our place in the top 5. Finally, we’d like to send our best wishes to Liam Crawford after suffering a horrific leg injury, hopefully your recovery is speedy, mate. Also thanks to the medical staff from both clubs for the professional way in which you all worked together to ensure Liam was well looked after. We look forward to our game with the Panthers today. The Coca-Cola Amatil Open Age Tigers with the week off, knew we had some hard work to get through to turn a 2 point loss in the last two weeks into a win so we worked extra hard on the training paddock with fitness, ground work and a lot of ball work. Excited to be back at our awesome home ground in front of a great crowd and the atmosphere was awesome. The boys stuck to the structure well and ran with purpose all game and with some great defence the boys really showed how committed they are to our plans to win this competition! Once we got in front on the scoreboard we never looked back and the boys kept Kincum-ber scoreless in the second half, the attitude right across the board is great and our squad of fellas are moulding as a great bunch of mates. Mates win footy games and that’s what we did with a 14 to 6 convincing win over the first place Kincumber Colts in a fantastic game of football. Best on day for us, back in the side and one of our leaders was big Webby, Pat Kelly Josh Whitlam, Reece Timewell and Blacky, but to be honest everyone could of got points as everyone done their job and it was a whole team and Club effort! Happy Coach is an understatement, Brent and Myself are stoked with the effort we are witnessing. Cheers Jurdy The Pallister Promotions League Tag Tigers started slowly giving Kincumber an opportunity to get in front early. After absorbing a couple of repeat sets, the Ti-gers got to their kick and found touch 15 out from the Kincumber line. The game was a tight affair for the first 15 minutes, but some really enterprising attack saw The Entrance girls skip to a 12 point lead. The remaining final 10 minutes of the first half was all one way traffic with the Tigers scoring another 3 tries to take the halftime lead to 28 points. The second half was a fiery affair with both teams getting away with a little extra contact. In a heated contest, the Tigers girls were far too strong for Kincumber, claiming victory 46-0. Holly Buchanan had an outstanding day with the boot kick-ing 7 from 8, including 2 goals from the sideline. She also was voted “Players Player” for her outstanding all round performance. While every single player had an outstanding game, special mention goes to Teah Goodhand, Sian George and Tian Stephens for their efforts in both attack and defence.

NEWS, SPORTS & WEATHER

• • • EVERY NIGHT AT SIX • • •

Roosters News Welcome to the 2nd grade players and supporters for making the trip up to Toukley to take on the Toukley Hawks. Thanks to Toukley committee and Toukley juniors as well as CCDRL and CCDJRL for allowing the game to be played today and all of the Hawks volunteers for hosting us today. We’ll be giving a full report of the Roosters Round 6 games in next weeks program when we play Terrigal at home on Saturday night, but as brief report for Izzy’s 2nd grade team sponsored by Orana we went down in a tight one 14-12 to Berkeley Vale last weekend in a scrappy game. The boys have been unlucky in most of our games and are looking for a win today to turn the season around. Best against the Panthers were Crooty, Joey and Jimmy. Great to see Hydey playing his 200th senior game and slotting his 125th senior goal and three boys of the Peninisula JV U13’s Bailey, Brayden and Jacob who were selected in the U13’s Central Coast Roosters De-velopment squad at the game and spending some time with the 1st grade team.

Thanks again to all our loyal supporters and much valued sponsors.
