The South Sydney Rabbitohs have been working with Tonic since 2006 on a range of one-off and seasonal design projects. These range from high quality publications, large format signage, logo design and web-graphics to name a few. Their project management and client servicing has been excellent throughout my experience working with them over the past 8 years. They are creative and delivery driven in balanced parts. Tony and his team are committed to getting the job done, even if it requires going above and beyond, and that is a rare quality to find.

From record covers to road signs, posters to packaging, or magazines through to something more mustered, graphics and typography touch every area of our lives. At Tonic Connective, it’s not about redefining the rules of design, but rather that the core elements of great design effectively resonate with our 21st-century visual culture. We live in a design world, where everything is designed...only difference is, you’re in control when Tonic Connective is in the driver’s seat.

November. 2013
Club Entertainment
So this is it! The great follow-up to
El’Circo Rouge that we’ve anticipated
since it debuted with great gusto at
the Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL in late
2011 and a follow-up run at the Rooty Hill
RSL last year. And, it seems the wait was
well worth it…for while Blanc is a particle
beam in comparison, as weightless as light
but concentrated with direction, it offers a
flurry of rhythms, masterful arrangements,
cavernous echoes, chiming music boxes,
and brooding Russian strings buoyed
by thumping bass hits which spring the
production’s winter wonderland backdrops
to larger-than-life proportions. But the
mastermind behind El’Circo, artistic director
Marc Kuzma, exercises care in spreading
the spangle…forever the dreamer, Kuzma
has created a magical production that
seemingly flies off the pages of a fairytale.
But prepare to be enthralled by a plethora
of circus acts influenced with the matchless
charm and flavour of Parisian cabaret.
Without it, it simply wouldn’t be El’Circo…
Both cohesive and inconceivably modern,
El’Circo Blanc offers more than a Parisian
cabaret; it’s a Russian fable that’s beautifully
executed with majestic, dreamlike effects.
And making its debut back at the Rooty Hill
RSL this month, the show’s troupe of entirely
fresh faces have taken clowning out of the
world of circus and brought it into the club
theatre, fusing traditional and contemporary
theatrical clowning arts with the beautifully
crafted visual spectacle of flying trapeze,
circus and aerial arts, silks, and loads more.
Coated in such a delicious sheen, El’Circo
Blanc opens with a timeworn Babushka
sharing a fanciful allegory of epic proportions,
recounting tall tales to her man-servant,
the extremely-talented Mr Gørski about
the circus trailblazing adventures of her
granddaughter, Anastasia. And as the affable
Babushka transforms with titillating talent
into the show’s Master of Ceremonies,
Verushka Darling, the show shifts gears to
create a world of wonderment and fantasy
that transports the audience to a dream-
like place in which you’ll be ensnared by a
giant spider’s silk web, shrouded in mist,
deluged by giant snowflakes in an exploding
blizzard, and bombarded by a thrilling
grand finale in which they take Russian
dancing to a whole new level, and make
you think that you too can dance along.
Acted spontaneity is a hallmark of El’ Circo
Blanc: It brings meticulously rehearsed
pieces to life and makes you feel there is
nowhere in the world you’d rather be.
It all looks so simple and that’s the
intriguing bit because, from the moment
Mr Gørski’s downtrodden diminutive clown
first shuffles on stage this show hooks you
into a weird and wacky place where the
music tells you all you need to know. And
there’s lots of it used to great and dramatic
effect, but it never overshadows the show.
If anything, it’s what sets El’Circo Blanc
apart from its hybrids in that live vocals
feature via the chanteusing capabilities of
Catherine Alcorn and her Ice Queen alter-
ego who hasn’t lost her ability to create
sonic otherworlds that perfect the wintry
terrain, or to achieve an overwhelmingly
full sound while maintaining an air of wide,
open space. In fact, it could be argued that,
texturally, Alcorn has mastered her voice
with this production. And the tidy drama of
the arrangements suit the physical electricity
of Alcorn’s voice, as she moves through the
music with focused, contagious pleasure.
It’s as if she owns and knows every inch
of space and shadow in these songs.
With the El’Circo brand back on exclusive
tour in the New South Wales club industry,
El’Circo Blanc is available as a degustation
dinner and entertainment package (with
menu flexibility available) for your club to
offer as a unique means of captivating your
members and drawing in big crowds. The
creative team behind this production have
set a standard for itself that’s not easily
equalled, much less surpassed and not only
taps the musical spirit, but also reaches
to the magical soul of the nouveau cirque
movement, all the while indulging your
tastebuds with a multi-course degustation
dinner that’s truly an event in itself. Word
has it too that El’Circo will venture up the
New South Wales coast, with some spot
performances at Wests New Lambton, whilst
a Christmas in July booking at Canterbury-
Hurlstone Park RSL will see it return to the
premier club that took on the first El’Circo
production with unmatched success.
Above it all, El’Circo Blanc outdoes all others
in sets and costumes, and awakens your
sense of wonder and spontaneity, creating an
atmosphere in which you can feel at home,
feel free, take part, go wild, and enjoy the
experience. Sold as a tailor-made package to
suit your member demographics, El’Circo is
an easily-transported travelling show that’s
available exclusively to the New South Wales
club industry. And whilst based in Sydney,
the show is set to hit the regional road, so
don’t think your club can’t be considered.
And whilst generally best suited to a more
intimate surrounding catering to up to
100 people, the El’Circo format can easily
increase to a few hundred people depending
upon the size of your club auditorium and
the scale of the production you select.
Billed as an unprecedented theatrical
experience, El’Circo Blanc really is unlike
anything else your members will ever witness,
bringing a world of magic, winter fantasy,
and culinary delights to the club scene. So,
don’t delay in securing a booking with El’Circo
at your club – it’s sure to blow the socks off
everyone that attends. And remember, with
over 30 performers on the books, heaps of
different courses on rotation from the kitchen
(in which they’ll work with your club’s kitchen
team to custom develop a menu), you can
be assured that every time your members
go, their interest will be captured and they’ll
be affected by the magic again and again.
