Note to parents: How to decode new words using phonics. 1. When encountering an unknown word, ask your
child to point at it. Ask what the first letter is. 子女遇到生字,先請他們留意第一個英文字母
2. Ask your child what sound the letter makes and
have them repeat it. 然後使他們嘗試重複拼出該字母的
發音。
3. Break the word up into syllables (分音節) and ask
your child to ‘sound out’ and clap each part. (e.g. cro-co-dile). Each syllable has a vowel (a, e, i, o, u) 把生字分為不同音節,隨着拍手方式把不同音 節讀出。
4. Ask them to put the sounds together and say the
new word out loud. 重複朗讀生字。
5. Use it or lose it! Ask your child to add the new
vocabulary item to their Word Bank Dictionary. 把生字記錄在Word Bank Dictionary中
