Dear ASCS Families,

It is hard to believe how quickly the school year has passed and come to an end. I would like to thank you for your faith, trust, and commitment to the mission of All Saints Catholic School. It is your belief in the value of Catholic education that help us to sustain our school. We respect the sacrifices each family makes to send their child to All Saints, and we will continue to put your child first in everything we do!

Although the months of May and June are hectic times of year, it is the time when I most realize how blessed we all are to be part of the ministry of All Saints. Parents and teachers commit their time and energy every day toward creating a nurturing environment in which children can thrive!

I wish you all a very happy, safe, and enjoyable summer. Please be sure to take time as a family to talk, play, and pray together. I look forward to seeing you all in August. Those families who are not returning to our school will continue to be in our prayers as you make your journey on to new places.

Student(s) planning on riding the bus next school year must submit the necessary forms to the Plymouth/Canton Transportation Department no later than Monday, July 17, 2017.

The form is available on our website (www.allsaintscs.com) and includes the directions to submit your form.

Plymouth/Canton will notify you of your child(s) bus number pick up location and shuttle location to ASCS.

While summer is a special time for rest and relaxation with families and friends, All Saints Catholic School also wants to make sure students are not at any disadvantage next Fall if reading and math skills are not practiced and maintained. It’s this reason, we provide families with the practice resources for their student(s) to hit the ground running when we start next school year. We are busy updating all of the summer materials and will send an email out as soon as everything is available online. Work is to be turned in to the homeroom teacher the first week of school for 2017-18.

Service Hours Due Tomorrow!As you know, each All Saints family (in grades kindergarten-8) is responsible to volunteer at least 10 hours each school year. We rely on active parent partnership to provide a learning environment in which all students are able to maximize their academic and spiritual potential. To date, we have more than 2,500 hours of volunteer service logged by parents. Thank you for making such a difference!

Invoices for unmet service hours were mailed last week and we are asking all parents to submit their final service hours no later than tomorrow, June 13, 2017.

It is getting to be that time of year again!!! If you have a Core Knowledge “What Your <Grade> Should Know” book by E.D. Hirsch, Jr., that is no longer of use to you, we encourage you to donate your books to the table outside Mrs. Shore’s office.

If there is a book on the table that will be of use to you next year, please feel free to take the grade(s) you need if they are available.

Canton Recycle Bins NeededIf you are a Canton resident and are looking to donate your old, smaller recycle bins, our Green School Program will gladly take them. We are looking for approximately 75 bins to replace the tattered and torn boxes we are using in our classrooms for Green School. For more information, contact Mrs. Zahari at bzahari@allsaintscs.com.

Last week, a group of students enjoyed the annual Skip School For A Day with Ms. Strausbaugh and Mrs. Fraser! The Vrooms (who invited the Klinkhammer’s) enjoyed Red Robin, Glo Golf/Zap Zone, a stop off at 5 Below, and even squeezed in a slurpee at 7-Eleven with their gracious hosts!! What an amazing day to skip school!

Congratulations Ms. ElemontFor the last four years the Archdiocese of Detroit has recognized educators within Catholic schools at a recognition dinner hosted by the Catholic High School League and Office of Schools. This year’s All Saints Catholic School award winner was Ms. Christi Elemont. She received her award in recognition of her innovative instruction, dedication to her students, and contributions made to our school community. Congratulations Ms. Elemont!

5th Graders Dance Away In Math

Cub Scouts Attend Cubmobile Derby

Last week, our fifth grade scientists dabbled in the dramatic when they produced and acted out skits of their favorite element in science class. Students were encouraged to “be” the element and show, rather than tell, aspects about themselves. Props were welcomed, and as you can tell from the photos, many jumped right in!

Attention race fans,the “Captain USA” team - Gabriel L., Dane Martin, Joseph Sanabria, and Brandon Ventura represented Cub Scout Pack 760 taking on the challenge of building and racing their cub mobile against other troops in the area on June 3rd at the Cubmobile Derby.

It was a great day for a race with the sun beating down and the heat rising off the street. In their first challenge they drove their cart down a steep hill attempting to cross the finish line with the fastest time. In the second challenge the team took 4 laps around the track with an uphill climb, after each lap they had to pit for a drink of water and change drivers, fastest time wins. I won’t sugar coat it, there were some close calls out there and a few obstacles that came out of no where. Lastly they were judged on overall presentation of their cart. With the help of their fearless leaders, Charlotte L. and Tim Sanabria, the boys took on each challenge and thankfully there were no injuries.

For the down hill race coming in 2nd place... Joseph Sanabria! For the long push team competition coming in 1st place... our very own boys from Pack 760! For the overall competition award taking home 1st place...All Saints Pack 760 and their “Captain USA” themed cart! The boys came away with some nice hardware and some amazing memories. Will they return to defend their title? Tune in next year.

Garden PlotSign Up...All Saints Catholic School is once again excited to be a proud sponsor of this year’s Canton Farmers Market. This year, we have established a small plot in a community garden near Canton Preservation Park. We will be growing cucumbers and tomatoes that will be donated to the All Saints Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen in Detroit later this summer.

In addition to reinforcing our school commitment to helping others, the garden will be a great opportunity for families to become personally involved. We encourage any family interested in helping out to sign-up at www.allsaintscs.com/garden.
