It is great that we were able to form classes last week and get everyone settled ready for the start of this week. Thank you to the Executive staff who worked so hard to make sure this happened, and to all teaching and office staff for their patience as things settled. This year, our newsletter will be published once a fortnight. Our next newsletter will come out on Thursday 21 st February. Meet the Teacher – Tuesday 12 th February, 2019 Our Meet the Teacher times have a slight new twist, based on feedback we received after the meetings in 2018. There are 3 sessions offered, all of which have the same content presented at each session. This allows parents and carers who have children in more than one class the opportunity to meet each teacher. This year you can attend a meeting in the morning before school. These meetings will take place in students’ classrooms from 8.30 – 9.00 am. Please note that parking is not available for the morning meeting and you will need to park at the pool and walk in or come into the school via Keel Street. This will be followed by two afternoon meetings from 4.30 – 5 pm and 5 – 5.30 pm. Parking will be available in the staff car park for the afternoon meetings. A crèche will run in the library for all sessions.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT 7th February 2019 Our first official newsletter for the year! It is great that we were able to form classes last week and get everyone settled ready for the start of this week. Thank you to the Executive staff who worked so hard to make sure this happened, and to all teaching and office staff for their patience as things settled.

This year, our newsletter will be published once a fortnight. Our next newsletter will come out on Thursday 21st February.

Meet the Teacher – Tuesday 12th February, 2019 Our Meet the Teacher times have a slight new twist, based on feedback we received after the meetings in 2018.

This will be followed by two afternoon meetings from

4.30 – 5 pm and 5 – 5.30 pm.

Parking will be available in the staff car park for the afternoon meetings. A crèche will run in the library for all sessions.

We will again be collecting feedback after the meetings to see if further adjustments are required for 2020. Looking forward to seeing you next Tuesday.

New Gates As you have probably seen, there are new fences and gates for Tomaree High School. This will mean a change to our procedures for picking up children if you are collecting them early. Please come into the office and speak to our friendly office staff and they will organise your child to be brought to the office. This saves you having to negotiate the new gate system.

Well done Tomaree P&C! This week Kate Washington came to the school to present the cheque for the upgrade of our basketball/netball court. Mel Watson and the P&C worked tirelessly to obtain the grant. It is hoped that the upgrade will take place later this term. We will keep you updated as things progress.

Tomaree Public School P&C Meeting Our first meeting for the Tomaree Public School P&C will take place on Thursday 21st February in the Staff Common Room at 5 – 6.30pm. If you would like to come along and meet like-minded people who have a passion for improving our school, please consider attending the meeting and getting involved in this important parent voice.

Communication Methods It would be wonderful if parents and carers could join our official Facebook account, accept the invite to your child’s Class Dojo, use SkoolBag, check the electronic sign, read the newsletter and visit our website for updates and information, as these are monitored by the administrators.

I am sure you would agree that we certainly try to communicate with you in a number of ways. The school does not endorse the use of our school logo on other sites set up by parents, nor will it be responsible for any misinformation that may be delivered via these sites.

Morning Drop Off/Keel Street The “Kiss and Drop” zone operates at the front of the school from 7.30 – 9.30am each morning and becomes a bus zone from 1.30 – 4pm. This zones works very well when cars are not parked and left there when people run into the office. For the safety of all students, please abide by the rules pertaining to this area. I would remind you that when

dropping off you must either stay in the car or within 3 metres of the car, and you can only remain in that area for 2 minutes.

Keel Street is another area where the residents get extremely upset (justifiably) when cars are parked across their drive ways or in the No Stopping zones. Port Stephens Rangers do random checks and fine those who are breaking the rules. To make sure the office staff do not get phone calls from upset residents, please look carefully before you park your car.

Admin News TPS office staff would like to welcome back all our students to the 2019 school year and especially our new Kindergarten students and their families. We are looking forward to being of assistance to you in the areas of students care and medications, receiving calls regarding your child’s attendance, taking payments for fees and excursions and directing your calls for any other concerns you may have.

Our office hours are 9am to 3.30pm for any enquiries but payments can only be made from 9am until 2pm when our tills are closed off for banking. The preferred method of payment for all fees and excursions is through the school website, tomaree-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/ once you have logged in click the ‘Make a Payment’ option.

The first field you will come to is the student Registration Number but it is not necessary and is not a mandatory field. By entering your child’s name, date of birth and class we will be able to link the payment to the correct student. Paying on line gives you the convenience of being able to pay at any time of the day and alleviates the need for you to send money to school with your child. The school also accepts payment by eftpos, either over the phone or in person.

Being able to contact parents quickly in the event of illness and injury is a priority for us at TPS but we need your help to do this, by keeping us updated with your contact information. If your details have changed over the holidays please fill in the form attached to this newsletter and return to the school as soon as possible.

There will be a new “Admin News” section of the schools newsletter in which we will keep you informed of any important things that you need to know. We will continue to publish “Important Dates” on the front page so you can see at a glance when things are on or payments are due.

Looking forward to a great year,

Michelle, Bronwyn Deirdre, George and Julie – your friendly office staff

Canteen News Hi everyone, a copy of the new canteen menu will be sent home over the next couple of and a copy is also available on Facebook page. There a few changes to the menu, we have changed from Quench water to the 5 star rated Chilli J water and have also introduced a fruit and fruitless bun and removed finger buns as they no longer meet the healthy eating guidelines.

The class list are now updated on FlexiSchools, please go to flexischools.com.au to update your child’s class.

And we are as always looking for volunteers, so if you have time to spare from 9-12.30pm please drop into canteen and sign up to volunteer.
