Greetings to my dear painting family! So much has happened and will be happening my head is spinning. First off, I would like to thank Janice for a wonderful lunch at the September meeting. Thank you to Cheryl Barb for preparing all the buck- ets for the afternoon program; and thank you for attending and allowing me to share Kathy Poidomani’s talent with you. I had sent Kathy photos of all of you holding your buckets up. She just loved the beautiful renditions of her design. She really wanted to be here to share with you but does not have the physical energy to do so. She asked me to let you know that she came through her first treatment with flying colors. If all goes well, she is hoping to be able to return to the teaching world next year. In addition, a special thank you to the groups/individuals who participated in the ‘Centerpiece’ decorations. We are so lucky to have such creative & talented members. I just love seeing all the wonderful decorations. Thank you to Jill DiMaria & Kris Lafayette for the donated favors passed out to attendees. Pictures of the meeting will be available on the Website soon. Secondly, for those who could not attend the September Gen- eral Meeting, please read the minutes carefully. Some very important information was discussed and will affect you in the near future. These changes were not decided on easily. Keep in mind that the times and economy are changing and we need to keep up with them. Thank you to all who voiced your opinions and concerns. The Board has listened and debated over all of them. If you were not able to participate in the discussions and would like to, please feel free to email or call me. I would love to hear from you! Last but not least, Janice has a wonderful lunch and program planned for us in November. I am very excited about this and hope that you will join us for the FUN, FUN, and more FUN!!!! As always, I look forward to seeing your smile soon! Happy Painting! Cindy Vice President’s Corner... Hi painting pals! I’m sitting here, on a Friday afternoon, and I’m sooo hoping that Autumn will arrive soon in all her glory. I just love the crisp air, the smell of apple cake or pumpkin bread baking, the beauty of nature. It calls us to pick up our brushes and paint the Season’s vignettes of falling leaves and scampering squirrels and plump pumpkins. Ahh, I can smell the woodstoves cranking up in the neighborhood (yep, I love that smell). Cindy did an outstanding job teaching Kathy Poidomani’s Ginger- bread design, didn’t she? Her projector system made every seat a great seat, and I noticed that most of you left with beaming faces and a finished (or almost finished) piece. Thank you, Cindy! The meeting was well attended- so much so that a few of you didn’t get one of my Fall candy-dipped pretzels. I’m so sorry. I made extra, too! I’ll have another little something at the next meeting, and I’ll make even more this time. Yes, I’ll try to spoil you with a little piece of yummy goodness at each meeting. Just to say thank you for join- ing us at our meetings. November’s afternoon program should be so much fun. I’ve been looking forward to painting Nancy’s Garden Angel— I have the per- fect spot for her! Be sure and sign up early so we can have a good idea of attendance numbers. The cost for the project is $15, and that fee includes the prepped surface, the pattern and the paints. Be sure to check the signup sheet for additional supplies/paints to bring to the meeting. Lunch will be a Holiday Bag Lunch of Wraps of Chicken Salad with cranberries and walnuts, a Side Salad of Homemade Cole Slaw with Apple and Raisins, and a Pecan Pie Brownie. Water and Apple Cider will also be included. It will be prepared by Tomlin and Crew and I guarantee that you’ll be asking for the recipes! The cost for all this yumminess will be $10. Remember, purchasing a lunch helps to defray the cost of the room for the meeting. Next year’s afternoon programs are shaping up. I’ll have the final lineup in the next newsletter- I guarantee that you’ll want to attend each of these meetings!

Signups are coming in for Connie Parkinson’s seminar. It will be opened up to our sister chapters soon, so come on, ladies, get

those registrations in! I am so intrigued by her loose, painterly designs- I find it hard sometimes to loosen up and am hoping that she‘ll have some tips to share. The sizes of the designs are noted on the signup sheet, and you can provide your own surface- canvas, a serving tray, a sign board? I’ll have designs from Kelly Hoernig at the November meeting- we’ll be voting for two of her colored pencil designs for her seminar. How to choose, how to choose! I know the Seashells design was sold out in 2 classes at HOOT- it will be one of the choices offered as a se-lection. Well, time to get the brushes moving- Christmas ornaments, yeah! Have you started yours yet? Will you be bringing some to the meet-ing for the ornament swap, and for David’s House? Have you read Tricia’s article, and will you be sending an ornament to her Painting Festival? What an opportunity for us- thank you, Tricia! And may I say thank you, too, for stepping forward and volunteering to be con-sidered as Vice President next year. Your resume far exceeds mine LOL, but we do share a passion for Decorative Painting and a we both have a vision of a reinvigorated Chapter. Thanks, painting pals. See you in November. Janice

More boxes were collected at the September meeting. Thank you to those that brought them in. These boxes were given to the Elliot Hospital in Manchester NH. We still have several unpainted boxes on hand. If you are interested in painting a box, please let us know. The boxes will be available at the November General Meet-ing. If you already have a box, please paint it and bring it in or return the unpainted box for someone else to paint. Thank you.

Volunteer of the Year

The following letter was written in 2009 by Jo-Anne Naugler and Maureen Boyden. It is as prevalent today as it was then. It has been slightly modified to be made timeless.

Another year has flown by and it’s time to choose our Rookie and Veteran of the Year Awards. You don’t need to be concerned with which category a person falls into, the committee will determine the Rookie and the Veteran according to their membership. Simply submit a name and why you think this person qualifies to be recognized. It is an honor to receive this recognition by our peers. If there is someone you feel is deserving of this honor, please submit their name(s). We have so many members who go above and beyond! Our chapter is made up of individuals who give freely of their time and energy—where ever and when ever there is a need. This is the true backbone of our wonderful chapter. Without these special people, we would not be able to func-tion as one of the best chapters in New England. Each year we award two members the honor of Volunteer of the Year. We, White Mountain, show appreciation by giving them a Volunteer of the Year embroidered Denim shirt in Recognition of the commitment and dedication they have demonstrated to the Guild. As you are thinking about a candidate for this award, keep in mind that the person should exemplify all that is desir-able in a member of the White Mountain Decorative Painters’ Guild of the Society of Decorative Painters. They should show strong evidence of devotion to the best interests of the Chapter and of the Society. Voting will take place at the November General meeting. If you will not be attending the November meeting, please, take a minute to cast your vote using the form below” and mail or email the completed form to me. Margie Rowe 288 Silver Lake Road Hollis NH 03049 Email: [email protected] Remember, we cannot give these awards unless we get nominations from you, the members. WMDPG General Meeting Minutes— September 11, 2011

Meeting called to order @ 10:00 a.m. Pledge of Allegiance recited. A Moment of Silence for the 10th Anniversary of the Twin Towers falling and those who lost loved ones. Welcome - We have 2 new members and 2 guests at today’s meeting. Tole Gate, Leeanne Kelly – Collected $$ for those who didn’t have a painted name tag. Secretary, Cheryl Rogan – General Meeting Minutes from May were posted in the Newsletter. Were there any questions or comments? There were none, so minutes stand. Newsletter, Debbie Fortin – The next deadline is October 1st. It is important to adhere to this deadline. Some people missed the last news-letter deadline and their articles didn’t get in to the newsletter. Membership, Karen Kopf –We have 36 attending the morning meeting, 33 members for lunch and 26 for the afternoon program. The total membership # is 100 as of 9/10/11. Renewals for 2012 are being accepted, forms are available see Karen Kopf. VP/President Elect, Janice Tomlin – At the November meeting, Nancy Schlis will be teaching a Garden Angel. We will be revealing the 2012 Afternoon Programs at the November meeting!! Today’s meeting is a Kathy Poidomani Gingerbread Bucket taught by Cindy Harrison. Lunch is catered by the 99 Restaurant. 2012 programs, in January, Elaine McMahon is teaching Tiger Eye domino’s, in March, Wood Items and More will do a trunk show with Anne Hunter doing a make it and take it on one of their surfaces. May is a surprise. It could be a watercolor or something different. September will be Witchabella taught by Janice Tomlin. November is still uncertain. We need to pay for the room for the general meeting, so if you buy lunch, it supports the guild and helps to cover the cost of the meeting room. Seminars, Janice Tomlin – One of the 2012 Seminars will be taught by Connie Parkinson – Flyers will be posted at NET. Sign up forms are in the August newsletter. Kelly Hoernig is the second seminar artist and her designs will be available to vote on soon. Today Janice brought a Seashell Colored Pencil Drawing, which is a Kelly design. Kelly has a companion piece that we’re hoping to have her teach. The member-ship will vote on her projects at the November meeting. We currently do not have anyone for the Vice president nominee. Board meetings will be held at Janice’s house. In regards to the SDP Convention, Janice hopes everyone read her column; she couldn’t even begin to cover the fun and the people she met. She gave thanks to the chapter for paying some of her expenses. Hoot is next on her list of adventures. Treasurer’s Report, Margo Wiggin – Margo didn’t get her report in the newsletter on time because bank statements come out at a different time. There are copies of the report on the tables for review. Membership had no questions, comments, or concerns. Hospitality, Leeanne Kelly – Leeanne is still having problems with emails. We’ve had lots of unfortunate things happening this year and you need to make sure she has your correct e-mail if you want to be notified. David’s House, Donna Frost – Donna thanked everyone for donations. Vermont and New Hampshire suffered hurricane damage and it’s nice to see people are taking care of each other and getting together to help each other. This is what we’re doing with David’s House. Our donations help someone else. She’s proud of what we accomplish with our volunteerism. Memory Boxes, Sue Mangano (absent) – Cindy Harrison thanked those who brought one in. Please make sure you fill out a slip and put it in the box. There are slips on the table to fill out and put in each box. Cindy Harrison brought extra boxes so you can sign out to paint one as well. Cindy distributed the boxes from May, to the Elliott Hospital and Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH. She also got a request in July from the Elliott for more. They prefer the larger ones, but they do have a use for the smaller ones (they use them for miscarriages). Paint For Freedom, Maureen Boyden – There are cards still out that need to be returned and she has a couple to be painted if anyone is interested. She will contact the people who have cards out and ask them to return them. Paint-In, Cheryl Rogan – We had a great turn out at the June 11th Paint-In. Dotty Pullo is wearing one of the necklaces that Tricia Joiner taught. We need projects for 2012 – please bring them to the November meeting for voting. The teacher will receive a $50 teaching fee, this will pay for your SDP membership next year. Cheryl will not be the Paint-In Chair next year if someone is interested in taking it over please let Cindy Harrison or Cheryl Rogan know. Special Event, Elaine McMahon – We didn’t have a special event this year due to lack of participation. Elaine left cards on the table for sug-gestions on what you’d like to see as a special event in the future. Budget Committee, Elaine McMahon – Elaine presented a summarization of topics discussed by the Committee; Recommendations, Boards retort and final outcome. The committee was asked to come together and reduce costs. Committee members were Mary Frambach, Anne Wifholm, Debbie Fortin, Jo-Anne Naugler, and Deb Courville. Cindy Harrison was the advisor. The committee looked at 5 years of past year end reports with the 2011 budget, and compared each item to see if we could reduce. We spend on average $10,000 a year in expenses doing things. We have 100 members. We spend $100 on each member on average per year. Our expenses are reasonable for what we’re doing. Elaine thanks the board for that. We spend $500-600 a year on general meetings. Seminars are a source of income. We get back approximately $350 for seminars, after expenses. Paint-Ins cost approximately $420, we now keep the $10 that is charged for a Paint-In, and so this should net itself out at some point. Mercantile is an income generator, with income of approximately $700 a year on average. Raffles are an income generator as well. The Board recommends: To Reduce the VP Grant from $1000 to $500 beginning 2012 term. Michelle Curran questioned why as this is a perk to get people to volun-teer. She’s having a hard time this year getting people to volunteer for open positions. Cindy Harrison explained that we need to reduce ex-penses and that we give more for this grant than any other chapter. Other chapters don’t even come close to giving this amount. Can we do this temporarily for 1 year? We don’t have to do this permanently. It was suggested that we put up to $1000 and leave it up to board’s

Discretion in any given year to reduce it. Cindy Harrison feels that the person needs to know up front. This money is for air fare and room. If the VP makes a point of getting a roommate, this can cut the cost in half. Next year, it will be held in Witchita, after that SDP is looking for other places. Cheryl Barb made a motion, “not to exceed $750 for 2012 and revisit next year.” Kris Lafayette seconds it. Kris agrees with $750 as it’s not a big leap. Kris didn’t spend $1000 when she went. Neither did Janice Tomlin. If you go, you learn so much. A vote was called, 1 opposed, the remainder were in favor, the motion passes. Going Green mandated – The Board has voted to mandate Going Green. As of January 2012, The Newsletter will be emailed to those who have email addresses. Those that do not have a computer will receive a condensed version via USPS. Those who have email but wish to receive a hardcopy will be charged a subscription fee of $10/year (this is 50% of cost to print yearly). Please keep this in mind when you are renewing your membership. What the condensed version contents will be, still needs to be discussed. The newsletter is costing $20/year per person, so it’s ½ the fee of $10. When you join the guild, your dues were supposed to pay for your newsletter. If you don’t have any ability to get the newsletter any other way, then you will get it and it won’t cost you anything. Tole Points dissolved – The board voted to remove Tole Points in their entirety effective January 2012; however outstanding Tole Dollars will be accepted until Dec 31, 2012.”In 2010, $564 tole points were redeemed. By using tole points we don’t get the potential income for the semi-nars, etc. Kris Lafayette states that at one point tole points were very elaborate. You received points just for showing up at a meeting. The tole point system was revamped this year. Kris thinks we should keep tole points, people appreciate them. She couldn’t afford to go to semi-nars without them. Nancy Schlis states that tole points are subjective and there aren’t any guidelines, but there are guidelines. It was felt they are often abused, misread or misunderstood. It’s hard to get people to volunteer. Carol Howard is in favor of dissolving tole points. She spearheaded the rework of the tole dollars. The guild is bleeding and people are dropping out of the guild because they can’t afford it. Suzi Franklin volunteers but has never received any tole dollars. She volunteers because she loves it, not for the tole points. SDP has scholar-ship $$ for seminars that we’re not utilizing. A committee chair has to assign points and it’s agonizing. How do you assign these? In lieu of tole points there will be a yearly individual charity raffle for members who donate to David’s house, memory boxes and paint for freedom cards. Elaine McMahon asks for a committee to get this raffle and reward system in place. Tricia Joiner, Kris Lafayette, Cheryl Barb, Karen Kopf, Carol Howard, Deb Courville, and Cindy Harrison volunteer to take this on. Maureen Boyden states we are constantly looking for ways to cut, cut, cut, are we looking at way to make more revenue?? Cindy Harrison stated that we will address this as well. Membership Drive, Cindy Harrison – The Board has been discussing ways to increase membership. One way is to reach out to SDP mem-bers who are not a member of a local Chapter. The Guild can contact SDP and ask them for list of members in our area. We would then write them a letter of introduction to White Mountain Decorative Painters Guild and invite them to a meeting. A letter is preferred as it’s more per-sonal. The second way reaches out to Non-Painters. Several Chapters throughout the USA have decided to put forth a membership drive utilizing old Decorative Painter Magazines. They are affixing labels to the magazines with local chapters contact information on how to contact the chapter, so that if they are interested in learning more, they can contact that local chapter. We would like to implement this in our local area. We can put these in doctor’s offices, hairdressers, oil shop, etc. Our website is a resource to find everything you might need, such as mem-bership forms, reimbursement requests, income requests, secret pal forms, calendar of events, raffle tickets, etc. We are being given an opportunity to make money, on an individual basis. A member of our chapter, Tricia Joiner wants to give back to us. This is the first time Tricia Joiner, has had a Chapter President say “how can I make it happen? What can I do to get this going?” Tricia now has a booth at NET. She was forced to move out of her space in Waterville Valley, but she gained a classroom in her new location. She has 3 businesses and would like to open the Waterville Valley Decorative Arts center with a big splash of decorative painting. She’s calling it the “Magic of Christmas Decorative Painting Festival” and will run it from Thanksgiving to the first of year. She is looking for Christmas themed painted items to sell and only keeping 10% of the total sales, to cover her costs. If you sign up to help her, she will make a donation to WM in your name to be used toward your 2012 membership. Cindy has volunteered to collect stuff if you want to paint things and put them in Tricia’s shop. There is 1 general meeting before that time frame, so you can bring the items to our November meeting. Tricia needs 2 or 3 people to help her set up her exhibit hall. She will need 2-3 volunteers to do demos on Saturdays between Thanksgiving and Christmas. There will be press releases to announce the event. This will really help promote decorative painting. If you’re a teacher and have flyers she has offered to put them in her shop as well. This is a good way to boost your exposure. In November at our general meeting we have an ornament swap and paint an ornament for David’s House, Cheryl Barb challenges the membership to paint a 3rd ornament to be sold at Tricia’s, proceed to come back to WMDPG. On behalf of the chapter, Cindy thanked Tricia for giving us this opportunity. WMDPG Teachers Listing, Cindy Harrison – We used to have a Teachers Listing Trifold. We would like to bring this back; in addition, the Board has decided to have this listing posted on the Website to facilitate NEW painters in finding local teachers. We believe this to be a win-win situation. Teachers will gain new students, who in turn, may become members of our Chapter. If you are interested, provide Cindy Harrison your information and she’ll establish this teachers list. NET has an education booth, if you are teaching you can put a brochure for your business. There is no charge for this and it’s a great opportunity. Go to newenglandtraditions.org to find the information on how to go about about this.

SDP, Donna Frost – There are benefits of being an SDP member. If the increase in Dues has got you questioning your membership – think about teaching an Afternoon Program or a Paint-In, the fee for teaching is equivalent to a one year membership to SDP!!!! There is a list on the website of SDP business members who offer discount to SDP members. JB Wood Products gives a discount of 15%, Viking Woodcrafts 20%, Jo-Ann Fabrics & Crafts gives 10% discount, and Cupboard Distributing offers a discount. You can fax or email a copy of your card to Cupboard Distributing and once you are set up in their computer you will get 50% off the retail price for brushes and DecoArt paint and wholesale prices on memory boxes or seminar pieces. If you don’t have a discount card for Jo-Ann Fabrics you can call the toll free #. If you want to renew last year’s discount card, go in to Jo-Ann Fabrics and show your SDP membership card and they’ll renew it for you. SDP has different scholarships available. There is one for a chapter. If you have any ideas of something beneficial we can apply to, please tell the board. There are individual scholarships as well, not a lot of people apply for these. All information is on their website. If you get someone to join, you can get $4.00 deducted off your membership, up to 10 members. There’s a coupon on their website. Beginner Teachers Program, Donna Frost – We’re trying to put together a chapter sponsored beginner’s program. If anyone knows of any place to hold classes in the Manchester, Nashua, Portsmouth area, let Donna know. Donna is creating a committee of people, so far she has Sue Hodgkins and Elaine McMahon, if anyone else is interested, please contact Donna. Nomination Committee, Michelle Curran – We need to fill open positions! The ballot will be printed in the newsletter and voting will be held at the November meeting. Michelle wants people to step up and volunteer. We need a First VP and more board members. So far we have; Presi-dent, Janice Tomlin, Donna Frost-Newsletter Editor, Maureen Boyden - Secretary, Jo-Anne Naugler - Treasurer, Karen Kopf - Membership Sec-retary, Cindy Harrison as Past President. Board Members: Betty Vitale, Shirley Cochis, Deb Coleman, Michelle Curran, and Cheryl Barb. If anyone is interested or know of someone who is, contact Michelle Curran. Mercantile, Michelle Curran/Betty Vitale – Carol Howard has put together a list of items that could be for sale at Mercantile. Please review the list and check off items that would interest you. Thank you for all the donations. Only made $20 in mercantile so far today, but made over $70 on the raffles. 8 or 9 people donated today. NET Liaison, Mary Svenson (absent)–There is 6 hours of volunteer time that needs to be covered at NET. NET Registration, Cheryl Barb - She has been busy, there are 494 people who have registered for NET so far, and she’s still getting money for catalogs. She needs help stuffing envelopes. The program books are not ready and will have to be distributed individually at registration. If anyone can help at NET on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning let Cheryl know. If you are available September 21st 22nd or 23rd to help stuff, let Cheryl know. She has a copy of everyone’s schedule if you don’t know your availability time. The busiest time is Tuesday night 5-7 and Wednesday a.m. from 7-10 when people are coming in, after that it slows down. She is passing around a paper to be signed if you would like to help. NET Teachers’ Room, Suzi Franklin – Volunteers are needed. Suzi is recruiting because Mary Frambach & Suzi are responsible for the teacher’s room. There was an article in the newsletter asking for volunteers to sit in the teacher’s room and be there. This is a great opportunity to meet teachers. You can relax and even bring a book to read. See Suzi if you want to be part of that team. She’s going to need runners on Sunday to bring any pieces that the teachers left behind to their classes. It’s easier for Suzi if you email her. NET Country Stores, Elaine McMahon –There were lots of things brought in today and Elaine thanks everyone. There is still time if you know of someone who wasn’t able to bring something in, just call Elaine. Or if you have something you want to donate, she’ll take it. Elaine would like to have a pricing meeting if there is a small group who can stay after today’s program to help figure out what to charge for these items. Or if you painted an item, you can give her a price to charge. Maureen Boyden volunteered to help. Secret Pals, Mary Daniell (absent)–Remember that November is the Reveal. You need to bring in a painted item with your name on it! Tole Dollars, Carol Howard – Tole dollars were given out to numerous members. Palette Potpourri, Leeanne Kelly – Linda Conners was the winner. Fundraiser, Dotty Pullo – Table/Turtle Painting – The drawing is in November. If you buy tickets today, your name goes into a drawing for one of Dotty Pullo’s bracelets. The winner was Linda Conners. Centerpiece Raffle, Debbie Courville- Cindy Harrison presented an award to the “Best Decorated Table”, which was Michelle Curran’s table. Shirley Cochis and Betty Vitale helped paint the witch’s shoes. Names were drawn for the centerpieces. Raffle, Michelle Curran/Betty Vitale – commenced Nancy Schlis “Bad” Witch raffle – Nancy donated the money to David’s House. Cheryl Rogan won this raffle. Motion to Adjourn made by Peggy Knight and was second by Maureen Boyden at 12:05 p.m. Respectfully submitted by Cheryl Rogan, WMDPG Secretary

Precious Gifts

A committee will be writing guidelines for “Volunteerism Rewards”.

Now that the “Tole Points” reward system will be discon-tinued beginning January 1, 2012, a new system will need to be developed to award those members that do-nate and share their time, talent and give so generously. I forgot to say “no” (ho,ho) and will be the Chair of this committee. At the September meeting some members offered to help; thank you. However, if you are inter-ested in joining us to develop the guidelines or just have ideas that you would like to share… please contact me. [email protected] 603-863-7863

The first meeting of this committee will be either late Oc-tober or November. Elaine McMahon

Paint-Ins

We are so fortunate to have so many gifted painters in our Guild. We need you to share that knowledge and consider teaching at a paint-in. In order to be able to have paintings to choose from for the 2012 Paint-ins, please bring your painted projects to the November 13th General Meeting at which time the membership will vote. Votes will be counted and the top four vote-getters will be announced. The Paint-in schedule will be announced at the January Meeting, at which time, we will start taking sign-ups. Remember the fee you receive to teach a paint-in will cover your SDP member-ship for the year! Although this past year, the Paint-ins were held in January and June, the dates are flexible. We check with the teachers before setting dates on the calendar. A few guidelines to remember when planning a Paint-in project are: the project should be suitable for all levels; we should be able to complete the project in 5 hours. As the teacher, you may choose to provide the surface at a cost to students or you may allow them to use a surface of their own; you should plan on providing the paints and other media required for the project at a cost to the students. If you have any questions of concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Cheryl Rogan by phone 603-890-6688 or by email, [email protected].

Opportunity for All Members

At our last General Meeting, I presented an offer to ALL WMDPG members. I am planning an exhibition/sale of hand painted items, called "The Magic of Christmas Festival - Exhibition and Sale". The primary purpose is to attract attention to decorative painting. The details are as follows: Any WMDPG member who participates in the Festival will receive a full or partial donation to the chapter to be used towards paying the members' 2012 Membership Fee up to a total donation of $300.00. When: November 17th - January 3rd. Set up dates will be Nov. 16 - 17. Tear down - Jan. 3. Opening reception - Saturday, Nov. 26 (the day Santa arrives in Waterville Valley by dog sled) What: The Magic of Christmas Festival – Exhibition and Sale of Decorative Painting Where: Waterville Valley Decorative Arts Center, Second Level of Town Square, Waterville Valley Resort, NH Why: Celebrate the Grand Opening of the WVDAC, promote decorative painting, and earn money for you and the Chapter Who: Any WMDPG member may submit 5 or more pieces with a minimum total value of $50.00. Your Reward: You will receive the money from all your sales (less 10% for handling charges). In addition, WMDPG will receive a donation for each member who qualifies to be put towards their 2012 Membership dues based on the total value of the submis-sions; total donation not to exceed $300. For a submission of $50 - $100 worth of painted items, a $10.00 donation will be applied to the member's dues. A submission of $100 or more will earn a $20.00 donation. The membership donations will be given on a "first come" basis by notifying Tricia Joiner ([email protected] or 603-425-7869) to reserve your place. The membership donation does not depend upon your sales, only on your participa-tion. Teachers may provide literature promoting their classes. A press release will also include your name. Submissions: Our theme is holiday items and we want a range of beautiful examples of decorative painting. Show off! Less ex-pensive items will sell better, but more expensive items that are well priced may also sell. Participants will be assigned a number and you must also assign each of your items an identification num-ber (e.g., if your personal number is 33, then your items would be identified as 33-1, 33-2,...). Your priced and numbered painted pieces with an inventory list may be brought to the November Chapter meeting or delivered to Cindy Harrison or Tricia's daugh-ter, Molly Lamson, in Londonderry, NH. Each submitter will need to sign a release absolving me, my shop, my employees, the vol-unteers and the Chapter from any responsibility regarding the loss, damage or theft of any items submitted for exhibition or sale. Volunteers: We will need a few volunteers to set up the exhibition and sale on Nov.16-17; to demonstrate on Nov. 26 (Opening), Dec. 10 (WV Cookies & Snow Winter Festival), and possibly the Holiday Week; and to take down the exhibition on Jan. 3. Thanks, Tricia Joiner

WMDPG Changes

Coming for 2012

TOLE POINT SYSTEM – The Tole Point System has become anti-quated. Both the Budget Committee and Board have decided to cease this program as of January 1, 2012. If you have Tole Dollars, please use them up before December 31, 2012. NEWSLETTER GOING GREEN – The Board voted that the News-letter will now be sent out via email. If you do not have a computer or email capabilities, you will receive a condensed version of the newsletter FREE! However, if you have an email address but choose to receive the full hardcopy of the Newsletter, you must pay an additional $10 yearly in addition to your annual dues. Please note this on your Membership Renewal Form. A Guideline Committee is being formed to discuss and recom-mend: ● a reward system for donations & volunteerism ‘ ● condensed’ newsletter hardcopy information If you are interested in being on this Committee or submitting your ideas, please contact Elaine McMahon at 603-863-7863 or [email protected]. VP GRANT – In 2012, the VP Grant will be valued at “not to exceed $750”. This is a reduction of $250 for 2012 only. This amount will be reviewed annually.

Worried about your SDP Membership Fee Increase? Why not teach a project for the Paint-Ins or Afternoon program. The Fee is $50 and would cover your SDP membership!!!

Ornament Swap Please remember to bring an ornament to the meeting for the ornament swap. AND, if you can an extra one for David’s House and one for the Magic of Christmas. Thank you, Marj Kiley

Thank You

T h a n k y o u f o r a g r e a t m e e t i n g 9 / 1 1 / 1 1 . Thank you, Janice Tomlin and Helpers! Lunch was delicious. Pasta with chicken and broccoli in Alfredo sauce was delicious. So were the des-serts, breads and the salad. Loved the fresh cider donuts and other morning snacks. I was very impressed not only with how good every-thing was but also how you kept lunch costs down for us by clever management - order some things, make some things yourselves. Cindy, thanks for teaching a fun project and helping Kathy Poidomani sell packets. Michelle and people who donated, thank you for a terrific raffle. Yes, I know I am prejudiced because I won something (I put all my tickets on one item). Dottie you were so cute wearing a hat deco-rated with raffle tickets. Thank you for adding handmade bracelets as a n i n c e n t i v e t o b u y t i c k e t s y e s t e r d a y . I thought the meeting had a lot of positive energy and ideas. Tricia Joiner has a great idea for selling Christmas items and Cheryl Barb's suggestion for everyone to donate an ornament to raise money for the chapter was a terrific bonus idea. I'm glad Cindy suggested people teach a paint in to earn $50 which would pay for their SDP member-ship. I'm glad Suzie Franklin reminded people about SDP scholarships. I am sorry the nominating committee is STILL LOOKING for a candidate for VP/President Elect. As a current board member, I'd like to remind everyone that this isn't a job you do all by yourself. There are other people to help. Leadership doesn't mean doing a job all by yourself. Yesterday's meeting was a great example of how lots of people all pitched in and that includes people who bring in guests and new mem-b e r s . G r e a t j o b , e v e r y o n e ! Donna Frost

Letter from the Editor

Dearest Members, I wanted to take this opportunity to say “thank you” for a wonderful opportunity to be your Newsletter Editor. It has been a profound experience for me. To also be involved on the Board “behind the scenes” has given me a new respect for what our Board does for this Guild. I had no idea. I applaud their dedication and love for painting and wanting to make our experience in painting to be the ultimate it can be. I always wanted to volunteer but working full time and on Saturdays has limited my time available and so glad I made the leap to edit the Newsletter. It’s so true, that you get so much more than you give in volunteering, its incredible. I’ve grown so much in the time I have spent at WMDPG and wouldn’t trade it for the world. And, most of all, the friends I have met and gotten to know better. What a gift! I have one more issue and then will be handing the reigns over to Donna Frost, whom, I am sure will put her special touch in it. Please give her the patience you’ve shown me. And be kind, be on time with deadlines! Thank you so much. With Love, Debbie Fortin, Newsletter Editor
