DQ® AND CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK HOSPITALS®
In 2019, the DQ system is proudly marking 35 years as a fundraising partner to CMN Hospitals in the U.S. and Canada.
This annual report highlights and celebrates some of the important ways in which our franchisees and fans have combined forces to raise funds for their local children’s hospitals.
We know the passion, energy and excitement that our franchisees and fans show when raising funds for children pays dividends for everyone involved—and also lets us touch the lives of sick or injured kids and their families in a way that helps create smiles when they are needed the most.
I want to thank each of you who so diligently help make our ongoing relationship with CMN Hospitals a success each year. Through your compassionate efforts, together we’re making the lives of sick or injured kids a little happier.
Sincerely,
Troy Bader President and CEO International Dairy Queen, Inc.
OUR SINCERE THANKS!On behalf of CMN Hospitals, we want to say thank you to the entire DQ system for your support of CMN Hospitals over the past 35 years. The DQ system is one of our most dedicated and longstanding partners, helping us improve the lives of children throughout our network hospitals across the U.S. and Canada.
The $145 million that the DQ system has raised to date has helped buy special equipment to treat the youngest of patients, build new treatment facilities, ease anxiety and pain and conduct ground-breaking research.
We are grateful for your tireless support of sick and injured children across North America.
Gratefully,
John Lauck President and CEO Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

The special relationship the DQ system, our franchisees and our fans have with CMN Hospitals stretches back to 1984, when DQ became only the second corporate partner of the children’s hospital group. The 170 hospitals who are part of the CMN Hospitals network in the U.S. and Canada treat over 10 million sick or injured children each year.
Our partnership with CMN Hospitals is a year-round commitment we’ve made as a system to help provide hope and comfort to sick or injured kids, often during the hardest moments of their lives. We’ve made this promise because we believe in giving back and feel that bringing happiness and smiles to kids even in the most trying circumstances is a uniquely positive experience.
Each dollar our franchisees and fans raise through events such as Miracle Treat Day and Free Cone Day (in the U.S.), along with in-store fundraising activities such as Donation Boxes, Miracle Balloons and Round Up for the Kids, stays in each local community. These funds—more than $145
million since 1984—also allow local CMN Hospitals to use the money where it is most needed.
The DQ system’s partnership with CMN Hospitals exemplifies the commitment our franchisees and fans feel toward our communities and to the families in them.
Through the DQ system’s ongoing partnership with CMN Hospitals, we strive to provide hope and moments of happiness to families. We are proud to not only create smiles for kids and families in our restaurants, but to bring those smiles and happy moments to kids in our local children’s hospitals, as well.

DQ PROVIDES CMN HOSPITALS WITH WIDE-RANGING SUPPORT
CUSTOM NEEDS Supports varied needs at each hospital, including helping fund expansions to add specialty services that enable kids to be treated close to home, rather than requiring families to travel great distances to receive care.
EQUIPMENT Provides state-of-the-art medical equipment, such as the Giraffe OmniBed® incubator, designed to provide extra care for even the smallest infants in the neonatal intensive care unit.
UNCOMPENSATED CARE Supports families when they are unable to pay for their children’s medical needs.
SPECIAL SERVICES Gives hospitals tools to best care for their patients and families, including services not billed to insurance. Funding through special services provides kids with amenities such as interactive play areas, games, books, computers and toys. These items provide a welcome distraction from medical treatments and make the hospital less frightening, which calms kids and makes care more effective.
RESEARCH Supports important research efforts, such as finding ways to use immune cells to treat cancer.
EDUCATION Keeps medical staff up-to-date on the situations they may face, including preparing them to recognize and treat the most-rare medical conditions.

Money raised by DQ franchisees and fans directly supports CMN Hospitals in six key ways. In addition, all funds raised directly benefit local kids and hospitals.
DQ and CMN Hospitals | 5
LOCAL GIVING BENEFITS LOCAL KIDSSince every dollar raised by stores in the DQ system and their fans stays close to home, franchisees in Wisconsin were able to help upgrade the MACC Fund Cancer Center at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Money raised allowed the hospital to purchase more than $150,000 in technology equipment and upgrades. This purchase allows families to watch videos or play games together as they take a break from medical treatments.
CAPTURING MAGIC MOMENTS MAKING KIDS HAPPY IN INVENTIVE WAYSCMN Hospitals find many unique ways to engage kids and take their minds off their treatments for a time, using funds like those supplied by DQ.
For instance, at Boston Children’s Hospital, a lunch spot known as the Chef’s Playground offers afternoon cooking academies where patients and families can take a break together to learn and practice new food techniques and recipes.
And at Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, a special playroom known as “The Beach” features relaxing sun-and-sea imagery, toys and a real sandbox to let kids “play outside,” even when they’re hospitalized.
DQ FUNDS HELP PURCHASE SPECIAL SENSORY MACHINEDQ franchisees and fans provided a generous gift that allowed Hurley Children’s Hospital in Flint, Michigan, to purchase DVD players and movies for children’s rooms. This funding also helped buy a Vecta® multi-sensory machine that lets kids—including those with autism—calm and comfort themselves. The Vecta provides music, a bubble tower, lights and many other features sick or injured kids can use to distract themselves during stressful moments. This specialized tool is especially valuable when administering care to children with special needs.

TURNING DOLLARS INTO SMILES DQ fundraising helps sick and injured kids find moments of joy during the toughest times
Kids still need to be kids, even when they’re sick or injured. That’s why money contributed by DQ franchisees and fans is spent to provide children with happy experiences that make them smile, even inside a hospital setting. When kids have happy moments, it can have a profound impact on the success of their care.
DQ funds directly impact kids by helping children better cope with the emotional and mental stresses that can come from being in a medical setting long-term. Activities provided through these special services funds can include art projects, music, interactive games, toys and books.
SWEET SOUNDSAt the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, funds provided by DQ franchisees and fans help provide Bone Conduction Hearing Aids (BCHA). These devices help children who cannot use regular hearing aids to hear. They help kids develop their language and social skills and supports their emotional health.
REAL KIDS, REAL PROGRESS, REAL FUTURES When DQ franchisees fundraise for CMN Hospitals, their dollars go directly to helping kids like Christian Guardino take one confident step toward their future.
Christian faced a difficult medical condition known as Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis. The inherited eye disease with no known cure left him able only to see bright light and blurry shapes. The progressive disease also eventually robs children like Christian of their sight.
However, at 13, Christian entered a clinical therapy gene trial at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia that gave him up to 80 percent improvement in his vision. In 2017, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration formally approved this experimental gene therapy for use in patients like Christian.
Christian, a talented singer with dreams of becoming a full-time artist, later became a semifinalist on Season 12 of the television show “America’s Got Talent.”

UNITED STATESDavid Gillespie II, owner/operator, Jefferson DQ, Jefferson, Georgia
“ People want to help. All you have to do is ask”
David Gillespie II owns a DQ Grill & Chill® in the relatively small community of Jefferson, GA — population 11,136 — but he’s managed to raise more than $100,000 over the past decade for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
“We’ve definitely worked to get our community to donate, and we’ve done every event that DQ has done” Gillespie says, “People want to help, and all you have to do is ask.”
Gillespie notes, “My wife and I have three kids, and we’ve been lucky enough to never have had to really use Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, except for my son having a concussion once, but if you ever have to, you’ll never turn down raising money for donations again.”
CANADAKerry Wade, owner/manager Spruce Grove DQ, Edmonton, Alberta
“ We need to do everything we can.”
Kerry Wade’s passion for raising funds for the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta has translated into more than $400,000 being raised for CMN over the past decade. She also serves as the CMN chairperson and link between the other northern Alberta DQ franchisees and the hospital.
“In my heart, I’m all about Stollery and my staff kind of laugh at me,” Wade says with a chuckle. “They ask if I think about it 24-7 and I say, ‘Yes!’
She continues, “Everyone just needs to take one visit to a children’s hospital, and they’ll wind up thinking, ‘There should never be a sick kid, ever, and we need to do whatever we can to help.’ If you ever see even a single little kid in an oncology unit, it hits you that we need to do everything we can.”
