Was a surrealist painter with an incredible imagination.

He was inspired by dreams, myths and surrealist games.

His paintings are an excellent example of ‘thinking outside the box’. What do you see?

How could this painting link to the theme?

“Exquisite Corpse”Exquisite corpse is a game invented by surrealists such as Salvador Dali. It is a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each person adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule or by being allowed to see only the end of what the previous person contributed.

Starter Task• On a sheet of A4 paper, begin by

drawing a head. (Human, animal, robot or skull for example.)

• Fold over so that only about 1mm of your drawing can be seen. (Should be the bottom of the neck).

• Pass to the person on your left. Do NOT look at what the person to your right has drawn. Now everyone draws the torso. Be imaginative.

• Repeat fold & pass on. Continue process until full “body” is drawn.

Hannah Hoch was a German Dada artist.

She was a pioneer of the art form known as photomontage.

Valerio D’Ospinacaptures movement in the strokes of his brush, but the blurred results also take on that uncanny real-yet-indistinct character of a dream or memory.

Main Task• Stick your image onto the middle of

the large sheet of paper.• Look at the colours carefully.• Use paints / pastels / charcoal / chalk

to work outwards from the image, extending the image to create a whole new largescale artwork.

• Refer to the images in the art books on your table and combine these with your own imagination.
