art January 1114.  Visiting artists included

dancer Jasmine Shah and storyteller Simon

Brooks.

In classes over the course of the week,

Ghummer and the Bhangra, and about good

 storytelling through traditional Indian tales

from The Ramayana.

Each of the visiting artists performed with our sixth grade students during a whole

school assembly and at an evening performance for family and friends on January

Holidays Around the World, in Computer Class

Sixth graders recently completed a Holidays

Around the World project in Mr. Irvine's

Computer Literacy class.

Students worked with our Library Media

Specialist, Ms. Sweny, to gather research

materials and then worked in groups to learn

about a specific holiday.  They identified

facts about the holiday and also wrote a

journal entry describing their experience at

the holiday celebration as if they had been

there to celebrate it.

Next, they recorded themselves reading what they wrote and converted these

recordings into QR codes using resources provided by Technology Integration

Specialist, Ms. Chauvette. The final product was a poster about their holiday,

including the QR codes, that students created using Google Apps for Education.  If

you scan scan the codes with a smart phone or tablet, you can hear the sixth graders,

in their own voices, as they share what they learned.
