A simple thought to reduce idling, is a savings of approximately $5,000 a year.

The drivers took a pledge to stop idling for the health of the children, fuel economy, as well as the community and their own health. I am proud to say, the drivers combined reduced their idling by over 12 hours a day. Approximately every hour of idling uses a ½ gallon of fuel.

Page 13: Today’s Presenters:

Studies conducted by the American School Bus Council indicate: • Over $40 million is saved annually by transporting our Utah school children on school buses. •Over 11 million gallons of fuel are saved each year, with over 86,000 fewer vehicles on the road. •With each bus replacing 36 vehicles, traffic congestion is reduced and harmful particulate matter is reduced by thousands of pounds! •Nationally for every 32,500 children transported, one life is saved a year. In Utah, that is at least five lives each year.

• Carpooling to school creates

– Unnecessary vehicle idling
