PRAYER IN THE EVENING

Prayer in the eveningThe following is an adaptation of Evening Prayer which is the Church’s prayer to give thanks for the blessings of the day and for redemption in Christ. Prayer rises “like incense in the Lord’s sight,” and “upraised hands” become “an evening sacrifice” (Psalm 141:2). There is a long tradition, especially in religious communities, to begin the prayer with a service of Lucernarium to accompany the lighting of the candles. A musical setting for this service is included here for optional use.
