Purpose
• To establish a networking group of hospital staff whose role includes patient and family engagement (PFE) activities.
• The Tennessee Center for Patient Safety (TCPS) provide support to hospitals in implementing and furthering PFE efforts.
Patient and Family Engagement
A set of beliefs and behaviors by patients, family members, and health professionals and a set of organizational policies, procedures and interventions that ensure both the inclusion of patients and families as central members of the healthcare team and active partnerships with providers and provider organizations.1

Hospital staff conducts discharge planning with every patient who has a scheduled admission, allowing questions or comments from the patient or family.
