    Youth Speaks Winner

Last Tuesday ten Year 6 pupils battled it out in a

Public Speaking competition judged by the RotaryClub and Mrs Nelia Phillips. Each child spoke on a

subject of his or her choice for between five and ten

minutes. The subjects were diverse and very

interesting from Common Pests to Nuclear Warfare.

The judges felt that the children were courageous to

speak in front of an audience of friends, family and

judges and commended all the children for their talks.

The winner was Tom Edwards, speaking on the

subject of Food, Glorious Food and he goes through

to the final on July 1st. The runner up was BethPritchard, followed by Abigail Blackwell.

All ten of the children were given lovely illustrated

dictionaries and certificates as prizes for taking part.

We are very grateful to the Rotary Club for this

competition and congratulate the children on their

    fantastic efforts.

    House Cricket

The opening game between Alexander and Churchill

ended with Alexander winning. They reachedChurchills total of 35 in 5.1 overs. Max Curtis and

Pepe Garralda guiding the team to victory without any

    real scare.

Game two saw Churchill take on Cunningham.

Churchill batting first, reached a total of 42 with a

fantastic batting display from Alex Blackwell,

reaching an unbeaten 26 in 6 overs. Cunningham

looked like they had won the game needing 3 runs to

win from the final over. Alex Blackwell completed the

over for only 1 run to win an extremely close-foughtgame.

The final game saw Cunningham take on Alexander.

Cunningham batted first and very tight bowling from

Alex kept Cunningham down to just 24 runs in their 6

overs. With Alex only needing 25 to win the result

looked inevitable. However, some excellent bowling

from Cunningham, including a timely maiden from

Hamish Gardner, saw the game go down to the final

ball of the final over! Alex only needing a single to

win the tournament, Ollie Harris hit the ball straight

back to the bowler but knew he had to run. The ball

wasn't picked up cleanly, leaving Ollie Harris and

Hugo Watts to run the single needed for victory.

A fantastically contested tournament with the stand

out players being Pepe Garralda and Alex Blackwell.
