Representation of social groupsMy media product represents social groups by using a variety of people from different social backgrounds (race, gender, age) and representing them in a certain way, which would create connotations of that social background, whether it is their gender, race/ethnicity or age.

Race/EthnicityRace/ethnicity is portrayed in our media project by having a black character as one of the three main characters in the production, this it self connotes that black people have an equal status and are as importance as white people in our production, which challenges stereotypes where black people are seen as been thuggish and inferior to white people. However the black character also adheres to stereotypes of being thuggish as he uses a gun in our media production which connotes that the character is powerful and dangerous and also connotes that the character is a thug as firearms are illegal to carry in public.

AgeAge is represented in our production mainly in the police office scene as this scene

features a young male character that is a detective and an older male character that is the chief of police. The main character who is the detective, is portrayed as

being more important through the use of the dialogue as he is being given this task, which the plot of film is based around. This challenges common ideologies

that older people are more important as the younger character is being given this important police assignment. However common ideologies of age were adhered to as the older character was giving orders to the younger character, which connotes

that older people are more powerful and more intelligent than young people.

GenderGender is represented in our production by having only one female character present throughout the entire performance, this connotes that whilst in England they are quite an even mix of males and females they are not seen as being as important in our production. This adheres to the ideology of patriarchy as do many English media products such as TV and film and also media created in western societies such as USA as these countries are patriarchal and therefore most media tends to represent gender this way. An example of a film of a similar genre is The Dark Knight, this film has one woman who is of significance and she is left to die so a more important character can be saved who is male. This connotes that men and more important than women. In our production the one female character is shown to be harassed by the three male anarchists this connotes that males are more powerful than females.
