Burley Tobacco Essay Contest Regional Event: Regional Paperwork Day Location/Time of State Event: State Paperwork Day (results announced at State FFA Convention) Objectives 1. Foster understanding and awareness of burley tobacco in the economic life of our community, state, and nation. 2. Develop knowledge about the history of burley tobacco. 3. Evaluate the process of the manufacturing and marketing of burley tobacco. Eligibility The event is open to all FFA members currently enrolled in agricultural education and in good standing with the local, state, and national FFA organization. Rules 1. One (1) entry per chapter is to be submitted for the regional event. 2. The essay must be a minimum of 300 words, a maximum of 500 words, and written on the topic provided each year. 3. Essay entries must be typed, double spaced, and have a cover sheet with the participant's name, home mailing address, FFA chapter, and age. 4. Essays should be bound in a folder. 5. Use correct form for footnotes and bibliography where necessary. 6. The state winner will be selected from the twelve (12) regional winners. 7. The topic will be released by the Executive Secretary of the Kentucky Association FFA by December 1 st of each year.
