WELCOME TO

STRASBOURG

HERE, ONE STUDENT IN THREEIS INTERNATIONAL. THIS CREATES A STIMULATINGENVIRONMENT

Always on the alert, browsing the web and the blogosphere, Emanouela has been running a blog for five years. Roadmaps fed by her escapades in Strasbourg that she shares with the internauts. "I’m always up to share experiences and give pieces of advice, like a friend would do, smiles Emanouela. Everything started with the will to share my hot tips and favorites, while getting more involved in writing." Affordable restaurants, go-to places and not so useful addresses, today 14,000 internauts are part of the community. "I focus on warm and welcoming places which are open to all and bring people together.

They differ from the superficial ones that one could find in big cities."

"STRASBOURG KEEPS ON REINVENTING ITSELF"The Krutenau neighborhood where she lives is the ideal starting point for finding good ideas and radiates over the whole city. From the European Quarter to the Port du Rhin, she never gets tired of the city’s architecture and landscapes that make up the city. "Strasbourg always appeals to stillness"

For someone who grew up in Dambach-la-Ville, in the heart of the Alsatian vineyards, she finds poetry in the little things of everyday life. Charmer and charming, Emanouela was chosen to be part of the city’s communication campaign to get the Neustadt district recognised as a World Heritage Site."An event that the whole city longs to celebrate"

districtThe Krutenau is

my neighborhood. I love the fact that it looks like a village and the festive atmosphere. It counts no less than forty bars and restaurants – where you can eat for 5 euros -. The terraces are always crowded. The Krut’ is the beating heart of Strasbourg.

IRRESISTIBLY RICH IN ARCHITECTURE, CULTURE AND CUISINE, STRASBOURG THE EUROPEAN, NEVER CEASES TO CHARM US

Capital of Europe, Strasbourg also owes its reputation to its exceptional heritage. Between its cobbled streets, canals and half timbered houses, the historical city centre is classified

as UNESCO World Heritage and the famous Neustadt district is a model of urban architecture. The city is decidedly green. The tramway and cycling - omnipresent - give the Alsacian mertropolis a very special flavour. Strasbourg is also proud of another unchallenged title in Europe: that of the Capital of Christmas. Traditions, sweetness of life and jubilation. The city with 9,000 stage shows and renowned festivals like the cultural Ososphere. The rhythm is set by the great institutions like the

Opera, the TNS, La Laiterie, Le Maillon, and also by artists workshops and dance and theatre group. Strasbourg plays a role and sings the greatest operatic airs.

IN THE CYCLE-FRIENDLY TOWNThe party continues in its reasonably priced bars and restaurants. This is the place for youth. With almost a third of the population between 15 and 29 years old, Strasbourg is in the leading three youngest towns in France. From the University Campus with its 150 nationalities up to the Malraux peninsula, the kingdom of digital and creative communities, the typical and upbeat Krutenau district to the quays of the III and their bustling terraces, Strasbourg seduces you, not only by feasting the eye, but by unforgettable life experiences.

What are the key points of the curriculum?EM Strasbourg Business School offers an International Business Bachelor in three years. The programme begins mainly in French and then gradually introduces courses in English. The last year is taught entirely in English with four specialisations: Marketing and Business Development, International Business, Finance, Entrepreneurship. The programme focuses on the practical teaching of international trade. It enables our students to acquire knowledge and skills to be able to make decisions in a European and international framework.

What is the spirit of EM Strasbourg Business School? To join the EM Strasbourg Business School, is to live a different kind of training based on projects, taking initiative and permanent international contact. At all stages of the course, our students are involved in professional projects in teams or solo. The management of projects, specific to the curriculum, is an original form of learning to raise student awareness to the technical and commercial mix of their future careers.

Are the results promising? We are clearly witnessing a fast promotion of our candidates. More than 70% of our young graduates work in an international environment. This is the fruit of this pedagogy aiming at the professional path and destined to train fully operational students. The programme includes three mandatory internships in an international context. This immersion abroad around concrete professional assignments is a formidable accelerator of maturity for our students.

Marie Pfiffelmann Associate Dean of the Programme Grande École

ITW

What does the Master Programme Grande École entail? This diploma is prepared over two years, in French or in English. As of the second year of the French language course, the school offers its students specialisation in the field of their choice. The scope extends from marketing to human resources via information systems, finance, supply chain or management. The English language course, in turn, leads in the second year towards four specialisations in tune with the economic context of Strasbourg and its region: wine and tourism, international and european business, finance, marketing.

What is the added value of this training? Our educational bias is employability. The programme focuses on professional experience with seven months minimum internship and personal coaching of students throughout their studies. We help them to strengthen their profile, to make choices in accordance with their abilities, aspirations and motivations. EM Strasbourg Business School is also increasingly focusing on apprenticeship training. The school has made it an essential lever of its system of social openness and professionalisation.

Know-how and self-confidence. How do you reconcile the two?It is true that we place equal emphasis on the personal path as the academic curriculum. Parallel to their studies, students work on a personal and professional project. They are involved in an economic, humanitarian, social or civic mission. They develop technical and personal qualities. These are major achievements that undeniably facilitate their progress in the corporate world.

BUSINESS ORIENTATED TRAINING

her journey"I come from the Dalian region in eastern China. After a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, I wanted to integrate an international business training course. I chose Strasbourg for its international influence and location between two countries and cultures"

and tomorrow?"I’ll go back to China, to take up a position as Buyer for a French company specialising in the automobile equipment sector. At EM Strasbourg Business School I have built up a profile and the expertise that will open enormous opportunities for me in my home country."

IN APPRENTICESHIP MODE"I’m preparing the Grande École

apprenticeship programme. This is practical and it helps to finance tuition fees. The

vocation of the school is based on the acquisition of academic knowledge, know-

how and self confidence. Apprenticeship teaches all of this at the same time"

Professional buyer"As part of my apprenticeship contract in an Industrial firm

in the region, I am in charge of international purchases. This enables

me to work with suppliers from different countries. I use French and English all day. As I wish to work in

international negotiations, these are extremely strong points."

What are your missions? The welcome is a key part of building successful of international students. This is why our school has set up a dedicated service run by a multilingual team of 10 people. It is a real challenge to host more than 500 international students every year. We start the year with an integration seminar. The main objective is to give practical pieces of advice to our students to find their way around the city, find a flat and, of course, discover the extent of the school’s associative activities. We also support them with the administrative procedures, in particular with the Prefecture, the Caisse d’Allocations Familiales and the French Immigration Office. Our service also helps them in the search for internships. When they arrive, international students need to be reassured. It is our mission to make them feel safe.

What makes your hosting system unique? It is precisely this proximity with students. We support students from their arrival to the end of their studies. Above all, we encourage them to get involved in the community life, which plays a key role in their integration. The idea is to create a real cultural mash-up, and help them to open themselves to the others. It is a chance for our French students to discover another culture, practice a foreign language and broaden their horizons.

What type of events are organized at school?Planète EM, organised in November, celebrates the world culture and highlights the multiculturalism of our students. The World Friendship Cup is also the occasion to seal friendships through a football tournament. We give travel tips as well. The Alsace is wonderful region open to the international students. The evnts are co-organised with them. This shared projects management is a powerful tool for integration.

Culture

Chloé Guesnetin 2nd year of the Programme Grande École and Chairperson of the International Office (BDI)

The purpose of the International Office is to welcome International

students. Our scope ranges from simple information to discovery trips via sponsorship. More especially we offer them a window onto the region, France and Europe through cultural outings. The range is wide between the great French cities and European capitals.

Every time it is a major preparation task to organise the agenda, manage the budget, achieve all formalities and find partners. Its a fantastic job. As chairperson I manage a team of 34 people, of whom 6 are international students. It is a position that uses up a lot of time and carried a lot of responsibility.

EM Strasbourg Business School recognises and values this investment. The associations play a central role in the life and reputation of the school. By mobilising students around ideas and projects, they constitute a community of business developers and experts. These reveal talents that play a major part in the educational, professional and personal life of all the students."

Throughout the school year, EM Strasbourg Business School associations give the international students the chance to discover “the French touch” in Alsace through the culture, heritage and lifestyle. From the famous Haut Koenigsbourg castle to the delightful Chocolate Museum, to the European Parliament and the Alsatian vineyards, not forgetting the magic of the Christmas markets: the discovery of our heritage is a highlight of the EM Strasbourg Business School calendar.

Already 37 editions and still the same enthusiasm shared among the EM Strasbourg Business School students who create the Strassbuch, the essential guide to Strasbourg. Twenty-five of them roamed the city for five months, looking for the best spots to share in this new edition, released in 30,000 copies. Its new design allows for a better readability: you will find hot tips and fun facts, such as “where to take your parents-in-law to dinner” or “customize you bike”… This city guide to the hidden gems of the city is a must-have.
