Supervisedinternship opportunities are available to college or university students working toward associate,bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degrees. Enrollment is open throughout the year. Summerinternships are available for high school and college students through our Career Strategies program (see page 17).

Community HomesAllows individuals with intellectual disabilities to live with independence and dignity. Experienced and caring staff provide specialized 24-hour support for one,but no more than three, individuals per residence. The 21 Community Homes promote each individual’s interests and abilities, with an emphasis on communityinvolvement, stability, and maintaining important ties to family and loved ones.

Services • Supports individuals to achieve their fullpotential and independence

• Maintains and strengthens relationshipswith friends and families

Community Residential Rehabilitation ServicesCommunity homes are provided for one to six people with a behavioral health diagnosis. With a focus on recovery, the staff provides individuals with the support and training needed to participate in and prepare for everyday life in the community.

Services • Individualized life skills training in such areas as money and medication management, housekeeping, personal care,cooking, and use of public transportation

• Actively encourages engagement in community activities, including shopping,bowling, trips to the movies, and regularvisits to religious and cultural activities

• Support is provided to plan vacations

• Transportation to shopping, day programs,employment, appointments and visits

• Coordination of medical care

Integrated Health and WellnessA mobile psychiatric rehabilitation program that enables adults with mental illness tolive independently in their community with support. Individuals benefit from apartmentliving, are able to age in place in a community setting that is nurturing and providespsychiatric stability, social competencies and personal adjustment. Services are flexible and tailored to each person’s unique desires and needs.

Services • JEVS employees provide a variety of supports based on individual needs

• The wellness nurse and medical resourcespecialist provide health-skill-buildingand health supports which integrate thephysical, mental, and spiritual well-beingof the individuals

• Participation in community activities, volunteerism and events

• Quarterly assessment by a psychiatristand nurse-facilitated medication management

• JEVS will design an individual plan foreach participant which may include:– Tennant/landlord supportive services – Natural supports in the community– Independent living supports– Representative payee support– Assistive technology support– Employer/employee support

Financial Management Services (FMS)Financial Management Services provided to adults with physical disabilities inMedicaid-funded, state-funded and veterans administration-funded programsto promote choice, independence, and full participation in the community.


Nursing Home TransitionProvides financial support, service coordination, and acts as an advocate forindividuals who desire to make the transition from living in a nursing home toliving on their own in the community.

Skills Training/Education

New Leash on Life USAPrison inmates are trained to care for and socialize at-risk shelter dogs toenhance their adoptability while gaining job skills. Inmates attend workshops onlife skills and job readiness, and many receive opportunities for paid internshipsin the animal care field when they are paroled.

Substance Abuse Treatment

Services • Outpatient and Intensive OutpatientMethadone Maintenance Program—a structured daily treatment program foropiate-dependent individuals with at leasta one-year history of opiate abuse

• Individual, group, and family counseling and education

• Physical examination, medication evaluation, and psychiatric evaluation and treatment

• Free and confidential HIV/AIDS testing, counseling, and education

• Hepatitis testing and inoculation

• Case management services

• Peer support services

Eligibility • Must be age 18 or over
