SUMMER CHOIR will resume weekly rehearsals this Wednesday evening at 8:00.

Anyone interested is invited and encouraged to join in!

ANTONIO CALDARA (c. 1670-1736) was born in Venice, the son of a violinist.

While a chorister at St. Mark’s Cathedral there, it is believed he was a student of

Giovanni Legrenzi. He went on serve courts in Mantua, Barcelona, Rome, and finally

Vienna, where he remained until his death. Though not a familiar name these days,

he was highly regarded in his time and afterwards, and his music was studied and

admired by composers including J. S. Bach, Telemann, Franz Joseph Haydn, W. A.

Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms. This morning’s anthem is light and buoyant,

energetic, and overtly Italianate in style.

GEARING UP FOR HABITAT: This is a year when Westminster Church builds a

house for a worthy family in Knoxville as part of the Habitat for Humanity program.

I want to let the congregation know that volunteer recruitment will begin in the next

few weeks to fill out the various construction days, beginning with Blitz Day on

September 17th. If you can use a hammer, or paint with a brush, you are qualified to

do the work. If you know what a hard hat is, you are good to go. We will also need

folks to provide lunch on a couple of the work days and have water available for

thirsty workers. Be on the lookout for more information about this year’s house build

and sign-up sheets that will be posted in the Schilling Gallery. If you have any

questions about this year’s project, please contact me (Buz Johnson) by e-mail, at

[email protected].

Mother’s Morning Out

9:00 – 11:30 a.m.

July 18 and 25

To sign up, please contact Angela Grobe at [email protected].

THE TUESDAY MORNING BOOK GROUP will meet July 19th at 10:30 a.m. in the

library. This month, we will discuss When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi.

Please contact Linda Rutherford for more information.

THE BIBLE STUDY class is meeting this summer at 11:00 a.m., following the

worship service.

SHARE THE BOUNTY: Our Share the Bounty table in the Schilling Gallery

continues throughout the summer. The table provides a space to share produce from

our very own Westminster organic garden and from our personal gardens. What we

have to offer changes each week, so take a look and take some home. There is a

donation basket, with any contributions going to Family Promise of Knoxville.

Westminster Night at the Smokies is August 19th. Purchase tickets by sending in $9

for each ticket to the church office. After the game, we can stick around for a huge

fireworks display. How fun!!!
