A Message From Pastor Pedersen

“So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days. When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.” (Nehemiah 6:16-16)

Nehemiah was a leader who was given the arduous task of rebuilding Jeru-salem’s wall. It was the wall that had been destroyed seventy years prior by the Babylonians, sending God’s people into exile.

Nehemiah was tested everyday, by the nay sayers, “It is too expensive! It is too much work!” There were neighboring nations who did not want to see the rebuild-ing of Jerusalem, so they were fighting against Nehemiah as they were rebuilding the wall. Some of the workers were bearing swords, while the others worked. The amazing thing was the work was completed in fifty-two days. Against all odds this work was accomplished because of God’s help. We always trust in God, lest our labor be in vain. When we labor in the Lord, he blesses our work, and we will al-ways be amazed.

What is your Christian labor? We trust that as we are working to rebuild the walls of our church, that God will bless us with all we need to complete the project. As we labor to build up the living stones (those who gather), God will continue to bless that work as well. We come to church with generous hearts and working hands asking God to bless our labor.

Thank you to all people who come to the Lutheran Church of Peace and give a big labor of love!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Jeff Pedersen

GATHER BIBLE STUDIES Repentance is one of the most powerful acts of a person or a church, making possible not only forgiveness but also reconciliation. This three-part Bible study by Meghan Johnston Aelabouni will explore how we as Lutheran Christians understand the role of repentance in our faith, especially as we understand God’s grace to be unearned and freely given. The Rev. Meghan Johnston Aelabouni is a graduate of California Lutheran University and the Lu-theran School of Theology at Chicago. Ordained in 2007, Meghan has served congregations in Illinois and Colorado. She is currently a full time Ph.D. student and mom to three.

October: Session two – If I could turn back time: Turning to others When Zacchaeus met Jesus, he was moved to give away half of his wealth to the poor and to make amends with those he had defrauded. Why? In the Gospels, Jesus’ call to repentance is a call to turn back to the ways of God’s reign on earth: justice, peace and mercy for the neighbor and the community. What does repentance look like in our relationships?
