How does the Federation manage the disaster at National, Regional and Global level ?

Learning from local communities, “first responders, grass root info” (trends, predictions, forecasting etc. Gender – sex, age, disabilities….)

Coordination, monitoring, evaluations, lessons learned, and best practices (“Build Back Better”)

Emergency preparedness (tracking, forecasting, monitoring, sharing info)

Information management from web-based global platform (DMIS)

Disaster response tools (FACT, RDRT, ERU, Logistics) Training of volunteers, national/regional and international staffs

– also communities through formal and informal education.

Partner with other organisations and authorities at multiple levels

CLIMATE CHANGE• Focus on CCA – ie consequences of CC driven disasters.

• Planning into the un-known

• Training communities and volunteers through formal and informal channels.• CCA as part of DRR

Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation

CC will generate new disaster dimensions

Note: slow-onset disasters related to the depletion of the natural resource base

Linking DRR and CCA1) Assessing and addressing

current and future climate risks at national and local levels

2) Assessing and addressing current and future climate risks with communities (sudden and slow on-set)

3) Education and awareness-raising (Formal and in-formal)

4) Advocacy (humanitarian values and

equity aspect – voice of the vulnerable)5) Integrating DRR and climate

change adaptation into existing training, plans and strategies IFRC, 2009
