It equips you for entering the professional world as a self-employed artist (working to commission etc), but it should be remembered that many employers are looking for creative artists; i.e. being a teacher or technician in school/college, museum & gallery education/press/admin/curation, Arts in Health etc, and our graduates have shown themselves more than capable of moving into other creative industries such as design, graphics, illustration, marketing, communications, support services etc. The undergraduate programme is also a springboard for further study and qualification including Postgraduate study, Art Therapy and Teacher Training. Studying at the University of ChichesterOur Fine Art degree will challenge you, introduce you to new ways of working, help you to develop new ideas and discover new processes so that you can grow as an artist. Our team of practicing artists and technicians will work with you to build your theoretical and practical knowledge, and make sure you’re fully supported. To ensure you can immerse yourself in your studies throughout your journey at Chichester you will be allocated a personal studio space in our purpose-built art facility. You’ll have the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of contemporary media and disciplines as you develop your confidence, your skills and personal style. External Projects and Careers lectures prepare you for making ‘art’ into a career.

FINE ART BA (Hons) FINE ART WITH TEXTILES BA (Hons) FINE ART WITH SCULPTURE BA (Hons) FINE ART WITH PRINTMAKING BA (Hons) PAINTING & DRAWING BA (Hons) • UCAS Code: W100 C58 • UCAS Code: W100 045H - BA (Hons) Painting and Drawing • Location: Chichester Campus Studying Fine Art at the University of Chichester offers you the chance to find your own material practice and artistic vision. The programme combines structured introductions to a range of contemporary media and ways of working, with challenge and individual support that enables you to shape your own responses as an artist. Students who undertake Studio Practice modules are allocated individual studio space in artOne, our purpose-built art facility. All our tutors and technicians are practising artists who help you build the practical, personal and theoretical skills and knowledge to fully explore the Fine Art experience. You will be able to explore the 4 specialist routes/disciplines and refine your studies accordingly OR develop a hybrid mixed-media approach that allows you to work between them: • Painting & Drawing, • Fine Art with Textiles, • Fine Art with Sculpture, • Fine Art with Printmaking

Indicative Modules

Years One and Two Years 1 & 2 are based on 3 strands of study, with modules in; • Studio Practice – (double modules) - Developing your own direction,

in your own style, using your own choice of media, specialising or keeping your options open.

• Workshops – (single modules) - skill development - choose from the following specialisms: • Textiles • Printmaking • Sculpture & Ceramics • Painting & Drawing

• Critical & Cultural Theory - (single modules) - exploring historical and contemporary perspectives on art and culture

Year Three • Degree show – working towards a public exhibition; developing a

distinctive body of work with a personal vision and professional ambition • Contextual – An essay and ‘professional practice’ (careers sessions

preparing you for making the most of your artistic skills) OR Dissertation; all on a subject of your own choosing that supports your Degree Show.

Studio Practice is supported with a department-wide programme of professional visiting artists sharing their experience and advice.
