IamhappytoreportthatSt.John’slightcontinuestoshinebrightandilluminateourcommunity.OnceagainaGirlScouttroopwillbemeetinginourupstairsdiningroomeachMondayafternoon.AlsobeginningearlyeveningonSeptember27,CovenantOrthodoxPresbyterianChurchwillstartholdingweeklyservicesfortheirparishionersinAllenHall.Butthat’snotallfolks.ECHOCenterhasrequesteduseofAllenHallonNovember7toholdafundraisingspaghettidinner.WhenIthinkbacktothebuildingofAllenHall,Irememberoneofourgoalswastonothaveadarkbuilding.PraiseGodforprovidingsomanyopportunitiestoshineourlight.

ECWisagainshiningtheirlightbyholdingthefallrummagesale.TheyhavevotedtoearmarkthefundsfromthissaletowardthepurchaseofanAED(AutomaticExternalDefibrillator).Anyhelpinsettingupforthissaleisgreatlyappreciated.IwouldalsoliketothankthemforthebeautifulreceptiontheypreparedfortheBishop.

AnotherlightinourcommunityistheannualKettleCornsale.Thishasbecomeaholidaytraditionwithmanypeoplelookingforwardtodecorativebagsofourlocallyknown,freshpoppedkettlecorn.Ittakesalotoftimeandmanyworkerstopopalmost200bagsofthissweetandsaltydelicacy.Peopleofallagesandabilitiesareneededtopopcorn,fillbags,tiebows,saltbatches….PleaseconsiderdonatingalittleofyourtimesowecancontinueblessingothersduringtheChristmasseason.LauraPeretic(QueenKernel)isavailabletoansweranyofyourquestions.

The United Thank OfferingisaministrytopromotethankfulnessandmissioninthewholeChurch.KnownworldwideasUTO,theUnitedThankOfferinggrantsareawardedforprojectsthataddresshumanneedsandhelpalleviatepoverty,bothdomesticallyandinternationallyinTheEpiscopalChurch.

The2015grantswereawardedtoprojectsin46dioceses,whichincluded34dioceseslocatedintheUnitedStates,fivenon-domesticdioceses,fivecompaniondioceses,andtwograntstotheDomesticandForeignMissionarySociety:oneeachformissionariesservinginternationallyandYoungAdultServiceCorps(YASC).

Also,inhonorofthe125thAnniversaryoftheUnitedThankOffering,ninespecialgrantswereawardedtoyoungadults(ages21-30),oneineachEpiscopalChurchProvince.

“Incelebrationofthe125thanniversaryoftheUnitedThankOffering,theannualgrantsandtheyoungadultgrantsaresoundstepsinstrivingforGod’svisionandareseekingtochangelivesinanewwaybyavarietyofactions,”commentedPegCooperofMissouri,UnitedThankOfferingboardmember.

Recently,theRev.HeatherMelton,theDomesticandForeignMissionarySociety’sUnitedThankOfferingMissioner,reportedthattheUnitedThankOfferingexperiencedarecordyearofgenerosity,markinga2.14%increasefor2014-2015overthepreviousyear.ShenotedthattheUnitedThankOfferingwasabletofund35%ofrequestsin2014; 38diocesesofTheEpiscopalChurchincreasedtheirIngatheringamountsinthepastyear;sixofthenineProvincesincreasedtheiroverallIngatheringamounts;andAnglicanCommuniondonationsalsoincreasedoverlastyear.
