A different way of thinking about strategy...
• “A coherent response to a defining challenge...”
• 3 key elements:
– Objective – the objective that will drive CILIP over the next 3-5 years
– Scope – what CILIP is (a chartered body for library & information professionals) and is not (a union)
– Advantage – what can CILIP do that nobody else can?
Challenges and opportunities
• Impact of austerity policy on civil liberties & equality of access
• Meeting the future needs of a changing society
• Delivering a new, sustainable model for publicly-accessible libraries
• Connecting local lobbying to national influence
• Securing policy commitments in 2020
• Embracing librarianship & information management as a united profession
• Joined-up leadership
