Warranty and Product Support Fluke Biomedical, Radiation Management Services* products are warranted against defects in material and workmanship. • Instruments: Warranted for one year from date of shipment. The warranty for instruments that

require calibration may be extended each year by the GCL Extended Warranty Program.

• Phantoms: Warranted for 6 months from date of shipment. The warranty excludes

disposable phantoms. • CLEAR-Pb®: Warranted for 6 months from date of shipment against defects in material and

workmanship. • Software: Warranted for 90 days that it will perform substantially in accordance with its

documentation. • Consumables: Not covered under warranty.

During the warranty period, Fluke Biomedical will, at its discretion, either repair or replace the component or product that proves to be defective upon the company’s examination. Repairs are limited to those components pertaining to functionality and not cosmetic appearance. The limited warranty becomes void if the product is disassembled, modified or repaired by an unauthorized person or facility, or if the product’s functionality is impaired by damage, abuse or failure to use and maintain the instrument according to the manufacturer’s instructions. To exercise this warranty, the owner must write or call a Fluke Biomedical customer service representative to receive a Service Return Authorization (SRA). The owner must send the product, transportation prepaid, to a specified service facility. Repairs will then be made, and the product will be returned to the owner with transportation (normal, service) prepaid. Repaired or replaced products are warranted for the balance of the warranty period. For products not covered by warranty, the part repaired has a warranty of 90 days. Warranty Limitations: There are no warranties expressed or implied, including without limitation any implied warranty of merchantability of fitness, which extend beyond that discretion of the face hereof. This express warranty excludes coverage of and does not provide relief for incidental or consequential damages of any kind or nature, including but not limited to loss of use, loss of sales or inconvenience. This exclusive remedy of the purchaser is limited to repair, recalibration or replacement of the instrument at the Company’s discretion.

Unpacking and Inspection Follow standard receiving practices upon receipt of the instrument. Check the shipping carton for damage. If damage is found, stop unpacking the instrument. Notify the carrier and ask for an agent to be present while the instrument is unpacked. There are no special unpacking instructions, but be careful not to damage the instrument when unpacking it. Inspect the instrument for physical damage such as bent or broken parts, dents, or scratches.

Claims Our routine method of shipment is via common carrier, FOB origin. Upon delivery, if physical damage is found, retain all packing materials in their original condition and contact the carrier immediately to file a claim. If the instrument is delivered in good physical condition but does not operate within specifications, or if there are any other problems not caused by shipping damage, please contact Fluke Biomedical or your local sales representative.

Standard Terms and Conditions Refunds and Credits

Please note that only serialized products and their accessory items (i.e., products and items bearing a distinct serial number tag) are eligible for partial refund and/or credit. Nonserialized parts and accessory items (e.g., cables, carrying cases, auxiliary modules, etc.) are not eligible for return or refund. Only products returned within 90 days from the date of original purchase are eligible for refund/credit. In order to receive a partial refund/credit of a product purchase price on a serialized product, the product must not have been damaged by the customer or by the carrier chosen by the customer to return the goods, and the product must be returned complete (meaning with all manuals, cables, accessories, etc.) and in “as new” and resalable condition. Products not returned within 90 days of purchase, or products which are not in “as new” and resalable condition, are not eligible for credit return and will be returned to the customer. The Return Procedure (see below) must be followed to assure prompt refund/credit.

Restocking Charges Products returned within 30 days of original purchase are subject to a minimum restocking fee of 25 %. Products returned in excess of 30 days after purchase, but prior to 90 days, are subject to management approval. Additional charges for damage and/or missing parts and accessories will be applied to all returns.

Return Procedure All items being returned (including all warranty-claim shipments) must be sent freight-prepaid to our factory location. When you return an instrument to Fluke Biomedical, we recommend using United Parcel Service, Federal Express, or Air Parcel Post. We also recommend that you insure your shipment for its actual replacement cost. Fluke Biomedical will not be responsible for lost shipments or instruments that are received in damaged condition due to improper packaging or handling. Use the original carton and packaging material for shipment. If they are not available, we recommend the following guide for repackaging:

Use a double-walled carton of sufficient strength for the weight being shipped. Use heavy paper or cardboard to protect all instrument surfaces. Use nonabrasive material around all projecting parts. Use at least four inches of tightly packed, industry-approved, shock-absorbent material around the instrument.

Certification This instrument was thoroughly tested and inspected. It was found to meet Fluke Biomedical’s manufacturing specifications when it was shipped from the factory. Calibration measurements are traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Devices for which there are no NIST calibration standards are measured against in-house performance standards using accepted test procedures.

Introduction The TNT 12000 X-Ray Test Device, hereafter referred to as the Tester, is a user-friendly system for quality assurance, calibration, and service measurements in diagnostic x-ray imaging systems. The TNT 12000 non-invasively measures kilovoltage, dose, dose rate, half value layer, and exposure time. The Tester includes the TNT 12000WD detector and the TNT 12000D display and offers both wireless (Zigbee) and wired (USB) communication between detector, display, and computer. • The detector contains a single array of solid-state sensors and filters, which are used

to measure kV, Dose, Half Value Layer (HVL), and exposure time over the entire diagnostic kV range (40–150 kV) and the entire mammographic kV range (22–50 kV).

• The display has the sophisticated electronics necessary to provide highly accurate, reproducible measurements. All of the measurement modes and options are displayed on the 320*240 Color LCD. The enter key and the four directional keys on the display control all functions. Internal rechargeable batteries power the detector and the display. The batteries can be charged using an ac adapter or by connecting to a computer via USB.

Features The features of the Tester are:

• Fast, easy measurement of X-ray system kVp, dose, dose rate, time and HVL • All measurements obtained from a single x-ray exposure • All measurements displayed after every exposure (no need to select specific

values to be measured) • Wireless (Zigbee) communication between detector and display or laptop • Ergonomic detector with camera tripod mounting receptacle for limitless

positioning flexibility The Tester also includes:

• Excel Add-in software to control the testing routine and categorize, display, and report the measurement results

• Protective carrying case

Unpacking and Inspection Do the following when unpacking the Tester to check for damage during shipment. There are no special unpacking instructions, but be careful not to damage the instrument when unpacking it. • Inspect the shipping carton for damage. If the shipping carton is damaged, carefully

continue unpacking the instrument and note any dents and scratches on the Tester. Save the damaged shipping carton and packing material for the carrier’s inspection.

• If there is no shipping damage, continue removing the Tester from the shipping case. Save the box and packing materials; they are needed when returning the Tester to Fluke for recalibration or future service.

• Verify that all items listed in the packing list have been received and are in good condition. See Accessories, below.

Note This box contains specifically designed foam inserts to ensure safe shipment of the Tester. Save these for future shipment of the unit for service or calibration

Storage If the system is to be stored, pack it in the original container, and keep it in an environment free of corrosive material, fluctuations in temperature and humidity, and vibration and shock.

The Tester is intended to be used for the detection and measurement of ionizing radiation. • Clean the system by gently wiping down with a clean, lint-free cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution. Do not immerse the unit in liquid.

RF Certification The TNT12000 contains radio transceivers that are used for wireless communication between Display and Detector. The transceivers operate in the 2.4 GHz frequency band with a maximum transmitting power of 1 mW. The transceivers have been tested and certified for use in various areas worldwide.

United States The transceivers used in the TNT12000 have been approved for use in the United States by FCC Part 15 certification, FCC ID: OUR-XBEE. The following statement accompanies the device: “Contains FCC ID: OUR-XBEE" The enclosed device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules. The charging status is indicated by the color of the battery status LED, as shown in Table 1-5.

Introduction The Tester has four operating modes, described below. • Radio Mode – used to make measurements on radiographic x-ray machines. Radio

mode simultaneously measures kVp Average, kVp Maximum, kV PPV, Dose, Average Dose Rate, Exposure Time, and HVL from a single radiographic exposure.

• Mammo Mode – used to make measurements on mammographic x-ray generators. Mammo mode simultaneously measures kVp Average, kVp Maximum, kV PPV, Dose, Average Dose Rate, Exposure Time, and HVL from a single mammographic exposure.

• Fluoro Mode – used to make measurements on fluoroscopic x-ray generators. Fluoro mode supports both Continuous fluoro and Pulsed fluoro measurements. Fluoro Mode measures kVp Average, kVp Maximum, kV PPV, Dose Rate, Accumulated Dose, Elapsed Time, Pulse Rate (for Pulsed Fluoro only), Pulse Width (for Pulsed Fluoro only), and HVL.

• Dental Mode – used to make measurements on Dental x-ray generators. Dental mode simultaneously measures kVp Average, kVp Maximum, kV PPV, Dose, Average Dose Rate, Exposure Time, and HVL from a single exposure.

Setting up the System The display and detector must communicate with each other, and the detector must be positioned properly with respect to the x-ray beam being evaluated. These setup procedures are described below.

Communication between Display and Detector The display and detector must be connected by a wireless connection or a USB connection.

Wireless Zigbee Connection To connect the display to the detector via wireless communication, turn on the display and the detector, keeping the detector within the range of the display, as depicted in Figure 2-1. When the wireless connection is established, the wireless icon ( ) appears on the display screen.

Positioning the Detector To ensure accurate measurements, alignment marking are placed on the top of the detector, as shown in Figure 2-3.

For radiographic and fluoroscopic measurements, center the beam on the RAD crosshairs and collimate the beam to the grey outlined area or larger.

For dental measurements, center the cone over the grey outlined area.

For mammographic measurements, center the beam on the MAMMO crosshairs and collimate the beam to the red outlined area or larger.

Making Measurements The Tester measures kV, dose, exposure time, and HVL for all radiographic x-ray imaging modalities including Radiographic, Mammographic, Fluoroscopic, and Dental, and can measure kV for stationary mode CT. All kV measurements are automatically corrected for beam filtration; all dose measurements are automatically corrected for both kV and beam filtration. Automatic Waveform Analysis determines the appropriate data analysis methods for the measurement based on the waveform type and the type of x-ray machine. See KV, Exposure, and Exposure Time Measurements in Appendix A for additional details.

Measurement Procedure To make measurements: 1. Set up the system as described under Setting up the System, above. 2. Press the On/Off button to turn on the display and the detector. On power up, the

system does a self-test, and a boot up message appears on the screen. After boot up, the display software and hardware versions are displayed:

4. The Zigbee ( ) wireless or USB (') communication icon appears on the top right corner of the display screen, indicating the mode of communication between the display and detector. The battery status icon ( ) appears on the top left corner of the display screen.

Note: If no detectors are found, the No Detector Found screen displays. The display shuts down if detectors are not found within 10 minutes.

10. Make an exposure. The detector and the display beep, indicating a new exposure. The detector analyzes the exposure data and displays values, as shown below:

Power Settings When the Power option is selected on the Measurement screen, the POWER SETTING screen displays:

Option Description

Detector Battery Status

Select the detector from the drop-down list to view its battery status. The Tester has the power saving feature in the form of Display Off Time, Low Power Time, and System Off Time. These are set on this screen.

Display Off Time When selected, a drop-down list appears that can be scrolled between 5 seconds and 99 seconds. Scroll and select the desired display off time. The display backlight is switched off if there are no measurements or if there is no key press for the set Display Off Time. The backlight turns on when any key is pressed or an exposure is made. Select the None option to keep the display backlight from going off at any time.

Low Power Time When selected, a drop-down list appears that can be scrolled between 2 minutes and 9 minutes. Scroll and select the desired low power time. All of the system circuitry goes to low power mode, and the measurements are disabled, if there are no measurements or if there is no key press for the set Low Power Time. The system comes out of low power mode when any key is pressed. Select the None option to restrict the Tester from going to low power mode at any time.

System Off Time When selected, a drop-down list appears that can be scrolled between 10 minutes and 99 minutes. Scroll and select the desired system off time. The system shuts down if there are no measurements or if there is no key press for the set System Off time. Press the On/Off key to restart the Tester. Select the None option to keep the Tester from shutting down at any time

Brightness When selected, a drop-down list appears that can be scrolled between 0 and 99. Scroll and select the desired display brightness.

Save Select to save the changes and go to the MEASUREMENT screen. Cancel Select to discard the changes made and go to the MEASUREMENT screen.

Communications Settings When the Communication option is selected on the MEASUREMENT screen, the display scans for the available detectors, and the ESTABLISH CONNECTION screen displays:

TNT 12000WD(2) Select the detector from the drop-down list. The number in parenthesis indicates the number of detectors available for connection. Last calibrated date, calibration due date, software version, and hardware version of the selected detector are displayed.

Connect Select to connect to the selected detector and go to the MEASUREMENT screen. Always Connect Select Always Connect to enable the particular detector to be connected

automatically on power on. The Zigbee or USB communication icon appears on the top right corner of the display screen, indicating the mode of communication through which the detectors are connected.

Note If no detector is selected in TNT 12000WD option, and the Connect/Always Connect option is selected, a Select Detector message is displayed.

System Settings All four modes have Auto, Manual, and Default settings. In addition, five user-defined settings can be created for each mode. The following sections explain the options and different settings in all of the measurement modes.

Radio Mode 1. From the MEASUREMENT screen, select the Mode (Radio) option. The MODE

If 75%, 80%, or 90% is selected, the detector measures exposure time between the 75%, 80%, or 90% points on the kV waveform.

Target/Filter When selected, a drop-down list of available Target/Filter appears, from which the required Target/Filter can be selected. Special calibrations, such as the AMX4 calibration, may also be selected from this drop-down list.

Delay A delay is used to postpone the start of data analysis in order to skip over waveform anomalies, such as overshoots or preheat effects that may occur at the beginning of an exposure. When this option is selected, a numeric keypad appears as shown below.

Enter the delay from the numeric keypad (0 msec to 999 msec). Select Save to save the entered value and return to the MANUAL settings screen. Select Back to discard the entered value and return to the MANUAL settings screen.

Include Delay

Select this option when waveform anomalies, such as leading edge overshoots are to be excluded from kV measurement but included in exposure time measurement. Deselect this option when waveform anomalies, such as filament preheat pulses are to be excluded from kV and exposure time measurement.

Continue Select to use the changed settings for making measurements and go to the MEASUREMENT screen.

Cancel Select to discard the changes made and go back to the SYSTEM SETUPS screen.

Delay A delay is used to postpone the start of data analysis in order to skip over waveform anomalies, such as overshoots or preheat effects that may occur at the beginning of an exposure. When this option is selected, a numeric keypad appears as shown below.

Introduction The Tester offers Excel Add-In software that adds additional commands and features to Microsoft Excel. The Excel Add-In emulates the Tester display with additional functionality like waveform download into an Excel worksheet. The TNT 12000 Excel Add-In may be used to perform quality assurance tests such as Exposure Reproducibility, kVp, Accuracy, Linearity, and HVL measurements, and the templates can be modified to meet specific testing requirements. Four measurement modes are available: • Fluoroscopic • Radiographic • Mammographic • Dental The TNT 12000 Excel Add-In can be used with the supplied templates or any other Excel workbook. The measurement data is automatically inserted into the open worksheet at the active worksheet cell after a measurement is made. Built-in templates for typical tests include: • Radiography – template contains worksheets formatted to perform typical

radiographic tests such as exposure reproducibility, kVp, Accuracy, Linearity, and HVL measurements. All the test results are summarized on a report that can be printed on a single page.

• Fluoroscopic – template contains worksheets formatted to perform typical fluoroscopic tests such as kV Accuracy, Beam Quality, and Maximum Exposure Rate. The test results are summarized on a report that can be printed on a single page.

• Mammography – template contains worksheets formatted to perform typical mammographic tests and is based on the ACR (American College of Radiology) Summary Report, and Data Recording & Analysis Forms. Additionally the template worksheets have measurement data areas and calculations to assist in creating a quality report.

Prerequisites The minimum system requirements to use the TNT 12000 Excel Add-In software are • Microsoft Windows 2000/Windows XP/Windows Vista Operating system • Microsoft Excel 97/Excel 2000 or higher • One USB port • CD-ROM disk drive In addition, the Excel Add-In software and TNT 12000 Vendor Class Driver must be installed.

Setting up the System The computer and detector must communicate with each other, and the detector must be positioned properly with respect to the x-ray beam being evaluated. These setup procedures are described below.

Communication between Computer and Detector The computer and detector must communicate with each other by a wireless or USB connection.

Wireless Zigbee Connection Power on the computer and the detector. Connect the Zigbee dongle to one of the USB ports of the computer as shown in the Figure 3-1. Keep the detector within the range of the computer.

Wired USB Connection To make a wired connection: 1. Power on the computer and the detector. 2. Connect the ends of Type-A to Mini-B USB cable to an USB port of the Computer

and the detector as shown in Figure 3-2.

Installing the TNT 12000 Excel Add-In Software 1. Start the computer. 2. Insert the TNT 12000 Package CD into the CD ROM drive. The installation starts

automatically.

Note If the installation does not start, browse through the CD and double-click Setup.exe to start the installation. The TNT 12000 InstallShield Wizard window displays:

Excel Add-In Templates The TNT 12000 Excel Add-In template is a workbook with standard text, such as column headings, formulae, macros, and other formatting as in new workbooks. New workbooks are created using a template and contain the same text and formatting of the template.

Note When using a template, do not open the template file itself, but create a new workbook using the template file.

The TNT 12000 template contains worksheets formatted to assist in performing typical tests. Test results are summarized on a report that can be printed on a single page. The template can be modified to meet specific testing requirements. When used with the TNT 12000 Add-In, the template helps to automate testing. Template contents are as follows: • Radiographic – Survey data, Repro, Accuracy, Linearity, HVL, Report, Manual

Waveforms, Auto Waveforms, and Help worksheets. • Fluoroscopic – Survey data, kVp Accuracy, HVL, Exposure rate, Report, and Help.

Note For additional information about completing Radiographic and Fluoroscopic templates, see Additional Data in Excel Templates in the Appendix.

• Mammographic – Evaluation, Collimation, Resolution, AEC, Uniformity, Artifact Eval, Image Quality, kVp, Beam Quality, Dose, Viewbox, Preliminary results, Summary Page1, Summary Page 2, Assistant Log, and Auto Waveform.

The Survey Data worksheet is used to enter information that identifies the survey to be performed. Measurement Settings All four modes have Auto, Manual, and Default settings. In addition, five user-defined settings can be created for each mode. The following sections describe options and settings for all of the measurement modes.

System shut down time

Enter the system shutdown time (10 min to 99 min). The detector shuts down, if there are no measurements for the set system shut down time, and detector Shut Down window displays:

Downloading the kV Waveform The complete waveform or a portion of the kV waveform can be retrieved from the Tester after an exposure. The data can be imported to the Manual Waveforms sheet or to the Active cell on the Active sheet. A separate sheet is created and the waveform is plotted using that data. To download the kV waveform: 1. Click the Download Waveform button ( ). A Download Waveform window

displays:

This window has options to select the start time and end time of data points to be collected from the detector. Use the default start time and end time to retrieve the complete waveform.

2. To retrieve a portion of the kV waveform, change the start time and/or end time of the waveform to be retrieved. Download Waveform window options are described in Table 3-18.

Printing Sheets and Reports To print sheets and reports, follow the procedures below.

Printing a Selected Sheet 1. Click the tab for the sheet to be printed. 2. Click the printer icon in the Excel toolbar. Alternatively, click Print… from the File

menu.

Printing Several Selected Sheets 1. Hold down the Ctrl key and click on the worksheet tabs of the sheets to be printed. 2. Click the printer icon in the Excel toolbar. Alternatively, click Print… from the File

Modifying a Template The template has been set up to perform typical measurements. In some cases, the template may be modified to suit specific testing needs. To modify the template: 1. Unprotect a worksheet: under the Excel Tools menu, select Protection; then click

Unprotect sheet. 2. Open the template as normal. 3. Make required modifications. 4. Select Save As under the Excel File menu. 5. Change the Save as type to Template (*.xlt).

Note Saving the new template in the folder suggested by Excel makes it available in the File New dialog box.

Maintenance The Tester requires little maintenance or special care; however, it is a calibrated measuring instrument and should be treated as such. The storage environment should be free from vibration.

Avoiding Damage Do not drop the instrument or subject it to any mechanical abuse that could cause a shift in the calibrated settings.

W Caution To avoid damage to the Tester or adverse affects on its performance, do not expose the system to temperature extremes. Ambient operating temperatures should remain between 0 °C and 35 °C, with a maximum humidity of 80 %.

Cleaning Clean the exterior of the Tester occasionally with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution.

W Caution To avoid damage to the Tester or adverse affects on its performance, do not spray liquid directly on or immerse the unit. The unit is not waterproof.

Firmware Upgrade Firmware is downloaded from the Fluke website for installation from the computer into the detector and display. Before performing the upgrades, ensure that the TNT 12000 Vendor Class Driver is installed on the computer. See Installing the TNT 12000 Vendor Class Driver for driver installation instructions.

Service and Calibration If the new Tester fails to operate successfully or if it needs a recommended yearly calibration, contact the Fluke Biomedical Service Center immediately, as indicated under Warranty and Product Support.

• Allow only qualified technical personnel to service the Tester.

• Do not attempt to open the unit. No part of the Tester is serviceable by the user.

• Do not attempt to replace the battery.

Measurements

Introduction The Tester measures kV, exposure, exposure time, and HVL for all radiographic x-ray imaging modalities including Radiographic, Mammographic, Fluoroscopic, and Dental, and can measure kV for stationary mode CT. All kV measurements are automatically corrected for beam filtration; all exposure measurements are automatically corrected for both kV and beam filtration. Automatic waveform analysis determines the appropriate analysis methods for the measurement based on the waveform type and the type of x-ray machine. The following sections give details about how kV, exposure, and exposure time are measured.

Radio Waveform Analysis In the Radiographic mode, exposure, exposure time, and kV measurements are done as follows:

Single Phase Exposure time in milliseconds is calculated between the first and last zero crossings of the kV waveform. Exposure time in pulses is measured between the first and last zero crossings of the kV waveform. Average kVp is measured on the pulses in the central 80 % of the kV waveform. Maximum kV and PPV are measured over the complete waveform. Exposure is measured from the beginning of the exposure to the end of the exposure.

Three Phase Exposure time in milliseconds is calculated between the 75 % points on the rising and falling edges of the kV waveform. Average kVp is measured on the peaks in the central 80 % of the kV waveform. Maximum kV and PPV are measured over the complete waveform. Exposure is measured from the beginning of the exposure to the end of the exposure.

Mammo Waveform Analysis In the Mammographic mode, kV, dose, and exposure time measurements are affected by automatic waveform analysis as follows:

With Scout or Sample Exposure or HTC grid (Lorad) Average kVp is measured on the central 80 % of the last kV waveform after the scout exposure or the last HTC grid pause. Maximum kV and PPV are measured over the complete waveform after the scout exposure or the last HTC grid pause. Exposure time in milliseconds is calculated between the 90 % points on the rising and falling edges of the kV waveform after the scout exposure, but including the HTC grid reset time. Exposure is measured from the beginning of the exposure to the end of exposure, including the scout exposure.

Without Scout Exposure Average kVp is measured on the central 80 % of the kV waveform. Maximum kV and PPV are measured over the complete waveform. Exposure time in milliseconds is calculated between the 90 % points on the rising and falling edges of the kV waveform. Exposure is measured from the beginning of the exposure to the end of exposure.

Fluoro Waveform Analysis In the Fluoroscopic mode, waveform analysis of exposure time and dose measurements is done as follows:

Continuous Fluoro Elapsed time and accumulated dose are measured from the moment x-rays are detected until they cease. KV is measured from one second samples while the x-ray beam is on. The user can select the unit for Dose Rate as Dose (R or Gy) per second, minute, or hour.

Pulsed Fluoro Elapsed time and accumulated dose are measured from the moment x-rays are detected until they cease. The average pulse width and pulse rate are calculated from each one-second sample. KV is measured from one second samples while the x-ray beam is on. The user can select the unit for Dose Rate as Dose (R or Gy) per second, minute, hour, or pulse.

Dental with Filament Preheat (Single Phase) Exposure time in milliseconds is calculated between the first and the last zero crossings of the kV waveform plus 4 ms (compensates for the waveform time that does not produce x-rays) after the preheat. Exposure time in pulses is measured between the first and the last zero crossings of the kV waveform after the preheat. Average kVp is measured on the pulses in the central 80 % of the kV waveform after the preheat. Maximum kV and PPV are measured over the complete waveform after the preheat. Exposure is measured from the beginning of the exposure to the end of the exposure.

Dental without Filament Preheat (Single Phase) Exposure time in milliseconds is calculated between the first and last zero crossings of the kV waveform plus 4 ms (compensates for the waveform time that does not produce x-rays). Exposure time in pulses is measured between the first and last zero crossings of the kV waveform. Average kVp is measured on the pulses in the last 75 % of the kV waveform, less the last peak. Maximum kV and PPV are measured over the complete waveform. Exposure is measured from the beginning of the exposure to the end of the exposure.

Three Phase Exposure time in milliseconds is calculated between the 75 % points on the rising and falling edges of the kV waveform. Average kVp is measured on the peaks in the central 80 % of the kV waveform. Maximum kV and PPV are measured over the complete waveform. Exposure is measured from the beginning of the exposure to the end of the exposure.

HF (High Frequency) Exposure time in milliseconds is calculated between the 90 % points on the rising and the falling edges of the kV waveform. Average kVp is measured on peaks in the central 80 % of the kV waveform. Maximum kV and PPV are measured over the complete waveform. Measured quantities showing HIGH This message indicates a detector overrange. Reduce the x-ray intensity by reducing mA or increasing source to detector distance.

Detector or Tester display battery does not appear to hold the charge.

The battery is faulty. A fully charged battery can hold the charge for approximately 8 hours when the unit is powered on.

If the battery does not appear to hold sufficient charge, verify that the battery is being charged. Connect the ac adapter to the unit and plug it into a suitable power source. The Battery status LED glows green, indicating that the battery is charging. If the Battery status LED does not glow, the battery is not charging, and the unit needs repair. Contact the Fluke Biomedical Service Center.

Appendix D Excel Template Help

Introduction An Excel template is a workbook that has standard text such as column headings, formulae, macros and other formatting for new workbooks. New workbooks created using a template contain the same text and formatting of the template. A TNT 12000 Excel Add-In template contains worksheets formatted to help automate the performance of typical tests, and it can be modified to meet specific testing requirements. When using a template, one should not open the template file itself, but create a new workbook using the template file. This section describes some of these templates and worksheets and how to enter data in addition to that described in Using the PC Based Excel Add-In Software. See this chapter also for procedures relating to generating reports, printing sheets, and modifying templates.

Survey Data Sheet The Survey Data sheet is used to enter information that identifies the survey to be performed. To complete the Survey Data sheet: 1. Select the yellow cell next to the field to be entered and type the data into the active

blank cell. The entered survey data are placed on all applicable sheets. 2. Click the Today button to insert the current computer date automatically into the

Date field. 3. Click either the inches or the cm button in the SDD Units box to enter the

measurement unit. The selected units are entered on all applicable sheets.

Note The template will not convert results to the units selected. This selection is only used as a label. For accurate reporting, the units selected must match the units for which the Tester is set up.

Repro Sheet – Exposure Reproducibility Reproducibility is tested by making a series of exposures, all at the same machine settings. The average and coefficient of variation (CV) are then calculated for all measured values. The coefficient of variation is defined as the standard deviation divided by the average. Linearity Sheet Linearity (mA or mAs) is evaluated by calculating the mR/mAs (uGy/mAs) at each mA or mAs station and calculating the linearity coefficient between consecutive mA or mAs stations. The coefficient of linearity (CL) is calculated by the formula (X1-X2)/(X1+X2), where X1 and X2 are mR/mAs values obtained at each of two consecutive mA or mAs stations. Figure D-4 shows the Excel worksheet for calculating linearity.

Waveform Sheets – Manual and Auto kV waveforms can be automatically retrieved from the Tester by clicking on the kV waveform checkboxes in the Repro and/or Accuracy worksheets. When waveforms are retrieved automatically, the waveform data is stored in the Auto Waveforms worksheet, and waveform charts, as shown in Figure D-6, are created in new chart sheets.

To manually retrieve kV waveforms, select Download Waveform... from the Tester Excel Add-In menu. It is strongly suggested that the Manual Waveforms worksheet is used for manually retrieved waveforms. This helps to avoid any problems overwriting data on the Auto Waveforms worksheet.

Note Use care when viewing or accessing waveform data in either of the Waveforms worksheets, making sure that the cursor is placed to the right of any previous waveform data to keep previous waveform data from being overwritten. When waveforms are retrieved from the Tester, the waveform data is stored, starting at the present cursor position and moving down and to the right. If a waveform is requested while the cursor is in a measured data area in a worksheet, the existing measured data will be overwritten. If this occurs, it cannot be undone.

Fluoro Template The Fluoro template contains the following worksheets: • Help • Survey Data • kV Accuracy • HVL • Exposure Rate • Report Each worksheet, except for the Report, contains a Help button that takes the user to the appropriate section of the Help worksheet. The Survey Data worksheet is used to enter information that identifies the survey to be performed. The remaining worksheets contain links to the Survey Data worksheet so that the information is available on each worksheet. The TNT 12000 Fluorography Excel template is shown in Figure D-7.

Survey Data Sheet The Survey Data sheet is used to enter the information that identifies the survey to be performed. To complete the Survey Data sheet: 1. Select the gray cell next to the field to be entered and type the data into the active

blank cell. The entered survey data are placed on all applicable sheets. 2. Click the Today button to insert the current computer date automatically into the

Date field. 3. Click either the inches or the cm button in the SDD Units box to enter

measurement units. The selected units are applied to all applicable sheets.

Note The template will not convert results to the units selected. This selection is only used as a label. For accurate reporting, the units selected must match the units for which the Tester is set up.

4. Click the Clear button to clear the survey data. This button clears all of the user entry fields.

Order of Imported Measurement Data Table D-2 shows the column order that measurements are imported into an Excel spreadsheet.
