ELECTION OVERVIEW OF THE SERIES

The MATTERS SPEAKERS SERIES is an interactive event that allows social issues (i.e. on gender, sex, race, politics, identity, education, and culture) to be shared, discussed, and reflected upon—by both youth and adults—through oral and musical stage performances.

A text conversation among three teachers created this idea for students and teachers to be able to share what matters to them, in and out of the classroom.

It is the hope that this series can further empower our students and teachers on how to express their voices in creative ways and educating them on how to become better critical thinkers on community issues.

Thank you.

ELECTION WHAT IS SERIES 4

The 2016 U.S. Presidential Election will likely prove to be the most important election of your lifetime. Could Hillary Clinton become our first woman president ever? Will the nation elect to feel the bern with Bernie Sanders? Can Donald Trump make America great again?

This generation (especially first-time voters) has the opportunity to change America this November. The outcome of this election will choose a president that will impact immigration, health care, jobs, women’s rights, gender identity rights, taxes, college tuition, sexual orientation rights, and the next Supreme Court justice.

Whether you can OR cannot vote—educate yourself on the issues, candidates, and talk to others with similar and different viewpoints. This series is not about endorsing or hating on any candidate. It is about sharing a space to learn, share, and think about an election that matters to us all.
