Introducing Etex Building Performance

Etex Building Performance is a new division which combines the products and solutions of three prominent dry construction materials companies:

Siniat is a manufacturer of plasterboard and other drylining products. It makes systems for partitions, ceilings, wall linings and external sheathing purposes.

Promat is a specialist in passive fire protection and high performanceinsulation.

EOS Façades specialise in the design, manufacture, and supply of a wide range of steel solutions for the Steel Framing Systems (SFS) and off-site markets.

We are part of the global Etex Group of Companies, which in the UK includes the Marley Eternit and Equitone brands.

Etex Building Performance worked alongside Deepdale Solutions to provide a building envelope solution. Using EOS Façades steel framing systems, Deepdale constructed unitised external frames for the building, to which Siniat’s Weather Defence – our specialist external sheathing board was applied. It formed an airtight and water repellent façade system.

Thanks to this unitised approach, the installation time for the external façade of the hospital was greatly reduced.

Etex Building Performance can provide many of the components of a building envelope, from steel frame systems to sheathing boards and boards for interiors.

With these components, our engineers have created unique through-wall solutions which are transforming building envelope construction and performance.

Central to this is Weather Defence, an award winning gypsum board whose unique characteristics offer excellent fire and airtightness performance. It is also water, weather and mould resistant and can be left exposed on frame for up to three months.

Our brief was to provide a lining solution to support Elements Europe’s point loaded modular steel frame building system which could deliver 120 minutes of fire protection with an internal lining board of no more than 30mm thick so that space and acoustic performance were not compromised.

A traditional approach to achieving this fire performance would have been a wall lining thickness of 40-50mm of fire rated gypsum plasterboard.

Working in partnership with Elements Europe’s design team, Siniat and Promat have worked together to develop a bespoke solution which combines an outer layer of 15mm Megadeco board over a single layer of 15mm PROMATECT 250.

C A S E S T U D Y

This system not only provides 120 minutes of fire protection to British Standard BS476-21 and 22, but it has also been independently verified to provide this same duration of fire protection to the loaded steel sections in the wall, making it a highly versatile option for both line loaded and point loaded construction.

Each sheet was manufactured to size so it could be installed straight into the modules. Megadeco has the added benefit of being pre-sealed, which also took a stage out of the decorating process. Together, this greatly reduced installation times in the customer’s factory.

The 348 bedroom scheme consists of two blocks – a 13 storey and a ten storey building.

Resilient Acoustic Stud

CASE STUDY: ACS COBHAM INTERNAT IONAL SCHOOL, SURREY

Caledonian Modular was appointed to deliver a new four-storey £13m student accommodation block, using a combination of modular and traditional construction methods.

Siniat and EOS Façades’ teams worked alongside Caledonian to provide the drylining system for the blocks’ modular units. Approximately 20,600 sq m of Megadeco board, a high performance plasterboard with a superior level of finish, and Fire Board, were used to meet the requirements of this high-traffic environment and ensure its durability over the coming years.

ACS Cobham International School caters for students between the ages of two and 18.

Thanks to this accelerated modular build approach, the construction programme for the building was reduced by 40 per cent in comparison to traditional methods, ensuring that the facility could be put in use as soon as possible to support the start of the academic year.

FLOORING SOLUT ION: PRE-ASSEMBLED FLOOR CASSET TES

Pre-assembled floor cassettes are available as a complete unit, providing a secure platform that can take a load straight away – significantly speeding up the building process and ensuring dimensional accuracy.

EOS Façades’ light gauge steel flooring cassettes offer a real alternative to timber flooring and joists, and there is no risk of shrinkage or movement.

Siniat’s Resilient Acoustic Stud is a game changer for those in the hotel and student accommodation sector.

It is a single metal stud which is designed to achieve 43 DnT,w+Ctr dB to meet Part E for Rooms for Residential Purposes and Change of Use, but is 17mm thinner than a partition using traditional C-studs.

It is much quicker to install than a traditional Resilient Bar system.

Our unique solutions for the offsite sector

LaDura

Designed for durability, LaDura is a reinforced alternative to gypsum fibreboard which is effective for high-traffic environments such as schools, hospitals and hotels.

A plasterboard with a wood fibre reinforced gypsum core, LaDura’s high-impact resistance makes it a great choice for heavy-traffic areas such as corridors and stairwells. Its strong pull out resistance allows hung loads such as radiators and other fixtures to be fixed directly onto the board without the need for pattresses.

It is compatible with unitised steel framing systems and offers excellent fire performance and acoustic insulation, minimising the need for additional products.

Megadeco

Megadeco is a dense, high-performance plasterboard that is stronger and harder than traditional boards. It is well-suited for projects that require superior acoustic insulation and high fire and impact resistance.

Its unique pre-sealed surface means there is no need for the application of a separate sealer and allows for decoration directly onto the board, speeding up project completion times. It is typically used in off-site projects across the healthcare, education and multi-residential sectors.

Weather Defence

An ideal choice for unitised external façade systems, Weather Defence is a specialist external sheathing board that offers superior weather resistance and airtightness, exceeding all classes in air permeability to BS EN 12207.

Its hydrophobic gypsum core is coated with a tough, water-resistant glass mat facer, making it highly moisture-resistant. Unlike standard cement particle boards, Weather Defence is also A1 non-combustible making it particularly well-suited to meet the fire protection requirements of off-site projects over 18 metres in height. It is quick and easy to cut and install helping to reduce both installation times and costs.

PROMATECT 250

PROMATECT 250 is a specialist fire protection board that can be used as part of unitised steel framing systems.

It is a strong, lightweight board which offers high dimensional stability. Dependent on application, PROMATECT 250 can provide between 30 to 120 minutes of fire resistance, is A1 non-combustible and meets Class 0 Building regulations.

Pre-Assembled Floor Cassettes

Our solutions include framing products that consist of panelled wall sections and flooring cassettes. These frames are supplied in kits, panels or in a fully assembled airframe/volumetric module. From framing solutions to modular housing schemes, our systems are bespoke and developed to meet specific clients needs.
