Procedure To Upgrade AIX/Technology Level(AIX 6.1 TL 07 SP 05 o AIX 6.1 TL 0! SP 0"#

This is procedure is compiled to perform TL upgrade from AIX .1 TL ! "#$ to AIX .1 TL % "# 4.

&e ha'e different apps(d)s and middle*are+s installed and running on different L#A-s in ouren'ironment. I encourage e'erone to please read and undestand this document. As/ me uestion+sif ou ha'e an dou)ts. #erform the pre*or/ and sa'e all this information safe.

1. hec/ to ma/e that the change is appro'ed ) all and its read to perform.2. If for some reason Pu Server$ %n &a%nenance &ode3is not *or/ing, inform peration that

ou are going to *or/ on scheduled maintenance acti'it. And ou ma also call them follo*ed) sending email.

5. oordinate *ith the concerned team(d)a(application o*ners to )ring do*n their apps(d)s.4. Log on to the L#A-("er'er.$. 67plore the options if *e ha'e spare dis/ then *e use the alternate dis/ install method to do the TL

upgrade. As I don8t see an spare dis/ a'aila)le so *ill ma/e the m/ss) and preser'e in the nimser'er.

. reate the tar )ac/up of (etc director and sa'e it in a temporar location i.e. (tmp and then sa'e itinto the 9IM ser'er along*ith the m/ss) image. &e *ill /eep this preser'ed till the completionof upgrade and then delete this tar )ac/up of (etc director from 9IM "er'er.

!. -un the conf./sh +stored in delta:(home(ina'd7r* director script and sa'e the output in adirector *here m/ss) is sa'ed +i.e. nimser'er, this can used to compare after the completion ofupgrade.

%. hec/ and ma/e sure that App(;< "pecialist has stopped the apps(d)s as ou ma )e re)ootingser'er multiple times.

=. hec/ to see if there is an interim fi7 +ifi7 installed on this lpar +using emgr >l, if so then remo'ethe ifi7+es +using emgr ?r ?L %'% La)el. ;etermine if ou ha'e to re)oot the ser'er afterremo'ing the ifi7+es.

10. hec/ the consistenc of installed filesets +osl'el >s@ instfi7 >i grep ML@ lppch/ >'@ lppch/ >'m5.11. ommit all the applied filesets +installp >c >f >g ?X.

mounted from one of the nim>ser'er or a temporar director created and do*nloaded the TL !SP "codes.

15. &e use smitt updateBall directl. Cirst, pre'ie* D see all the errors )efore *e actuall performthe update for all filesets. Alfternati'el first, update Eust )o$.re.%n$allfileset from the TLdirector. And then update all using Install and Update from ALL Available Software thrusmit from TL director.

14. Its good to chec/ the consistenc of updated filesets ++osl'el >s@ lppch/ >'@ lppch/ >'m5 )eforere)ooting the L#A-(ser'er.

1$. If all loo/s good, proceed to re)oot the lpar(ser'er and re>run the consistenc chec/ to ma/e surethat TL upgraded successfull.

1. -un the conf./sh script again and compare the output *ith the output *e captured in step !.1!.

Cirst, create the .ocfile +it should )e alread created, if not createone for the pac/age ) using the %nuoccommand descri)ed a)o'e. Then, run the follo*ingcommand to e7tract the A#A- listings from the .ocfile:

-un the follo*ing command to eliminate duplicate entries from the apar.l%$file:
